I can do a decant. I need to go get some of those little plastic pot things. I promised someone else one too but honestly it's been the last thing on my mind Xmas Sad.

I have since discovered that Kiko (if you're near one, they have quite a high minimum order on their website otherwise) have good decant bottles since they're flat, much easier to send through the post.

Also, you have the best excuse for forgetting, Pupsie. Hope all is on track with the kitchen now.

Indecisivejo · 13/12/2016 12:07

wiltingfast yeah I think it's a hydrating spray

AuroraPolaris · 13/12/2016 12:07

What bo said - Spa Xmas Wink

Yongian just PM me your address.

Hmmmm I think this thread's name is so good it would be hard to improve but we can always put smg silly in brackets like promo alerts for swedish online retailers or musings about the perfect cream blush

botemp · 13/12/2016 12:17

and the endless hunt for a cheap, stable, Vitamin C serum that doesn't smell of hot dog water

Meant to respond to you earlier Jo, that cleanser has a good pH, I worried as some have a high-ish one and that would really not be helping (despite not irritating you which is the first thing). You get on well with the Bioderma too right, or is that only on the eyes? I'm wondering if a low water routine would be better for you (counter as it sounds it helps with dehydration).

Indecisivejo · 13/12/2016 12:42

That's ok bo I know your in demand Xmas Wink
I only use the bioderma to remove my eye make up, I'm not a lover of micellars for my skin. Just not sure what I'm missing, it's just surface congestion and shine plus redness which I'm sure is all from dehydration and barrier damage. So do I bloody need a hydrating mist/niacinamide/or something I'm just not thinking of???

botemp · 13/12/2016 13:06

The Hydra-Density Mist is mostly a floral water with some botanical extracts and it has hydrogenated castor oil in it so don't know if that's ideal for you, Jo? Ever tried a rose water?

AuroraPolaris · 13/12/2016 13:25

Jo you could also try Caudelie grape water. I find it quite hydrating (even apply over makeup in days skin might feel a bit tight) and they also have 75ml bottles. I love their Eau de Beauté as well but that might be a bit much for your skin (can also be used as makeup setter/ refresher).

ChocolateRaisin · 13/12/2016 13:26

Hi, long time lurker and new ish skin care addict here. I’ve always had issues with my skin that flare up and down but I am now thoroughly fed up of it! I really just want nice clear skin that I don’t feel self conscious and embarrassed about all of the time. I look ok ish at the moment when I have make up on as I have nothing huge on my face, but I have red scars from a recent break out and lots of congestion, small lumps and black heads on my cheeks. I have tried to learn as much as I can from these threads and have started implementing it but any further advice would be really appreciated.

Skin type:Combination; congested cheeks with bumps and blackheads, SF on nose, cystic acne breakouts on chin and jaw line at times, though not having a break out at the moment (everything crossed). Also a little sensitive at times

Approx age (range): 31

Primary skin concern: The congested cheeks, blackheads etc and cystic breakouts, secondary is anti aging

Routine:

AM
Jan Marini bioglycolic cleanser (nearly at the end, have just purchased LRP toleraine dermo cleanser to try in replacement)
TO Alpha Arbutin (I may cut this, I don’t think I need it)
TO Niacinamide
TO HA
Estee Lauder Crescent White Full Cycle Brightening UV Protector SPF 50 (I really like this)
Bare minerals make up
(I tried a sample of PC 2% BHA which seems ok but wasn’t amazing. Have PC clear extra strength anti redness exfoliating solution 2% salicylic acid on order at the moment which I will hopefully build up to using everyday once it arrives)

PM
Clinique TTDO
Pixie mud cleanser (won’t RP, will use LRP toleraine instead)
TO Niacinamide (though have seen up thread that this is too much 2x a day so will cut this out PM)
TO HA
Kiehls midnight recovery oil

Occasional treatments:
Origins clear improvement mud mask 1-2 times a week

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results:
I have Liquid Gold which I built up and have been using 3x a week, initially reacted with a red rash on cheeks, I diluted it a little and the rash stopped but I have noticed the mornings after I use it my skin is very oily, so I have decided to stop for now.

LRP hydrene light moisturiser, seemed ok at first but had a horrible red rash on my face at the weekend which I think has been caused by this, so I have cut it out for now. I’ve been using it for nearly 2 weeks, seemed fine initially. It is either this or the LG which caused the rash, so have cut both for now and my skin is returning to normal.

Things that are really working well for me now:
I am very unhappy about the congestion and black heads at the moment, so I don’t think I could say anything is working particularly well at the moment but I am being negative! I really like the SPF I’m using.

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:
IBS and wheat intolerant, my skin reacts badly to sugar, fried and fatty foods and wheat.

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: Up to £50

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]...
I have TO 2% retinol and Vit C waiting to be used but want to get the BHA in place and settled before I add anything else in. I would look to add them in the evening, every other evening from each other and have the niacinamide AM only.

Any advice with how to clear the black head and congestion would be really helpful- and also advice on how I can improve on what I am doing now. I am considering going for an extraction facial or maybe some glycolic skin peels- would they help?

Also maybe an alternative moisturiser if I need one? I’m thinking either LRP toleraine liquid or TO natural moisturising factors +HA? Or something different?

Thank you in advance!

Somersetlady · 13/12/2016 13:46

pupsie if you pm me youre address i will glay and gratefuly send an empty container with a self addressed prepaid envelope.

Anyone want a Lancome cleanser (came part if a pack) on same terms is welcome to it i dont like how it makes my face feel compared to LRP.

EnidButton · 13/12/2016 13:58

Chocolate Our skin sounds fairly similar (except I think my can be dehydrated too) I switched from lrp hydreane to lrp toleriane fluide on the advice of this thread and, combined with the LRP dermo cleanse, I really like it.

My skin hates glycolic acid, do t know if yours will be the same but maybe someone else can advise. I haven't moved on to acids yet.

EnidButton · 13/12/2016 14:01

Somerset on the mobile site- Top right, click on the middle button with the little head and shoulders on it and your messages are in there. A red dot appears when you have one.
Click on bottom right three dots under someone's post for the option to send a pm.

Somersetlady · 13/12/2016 14:03

Thank you Enid

I fear being at home for a few days not allowed to do too much may lead to a mumsnet addiction that previously has just been the odd glance through threads when waiting or bored!Wink

botemp · 13/12/2016 14:24

Raisin with sensitivity issues I wouldn't be looking at glycolic all too quickly and as an initial introduction a peel is a little full on.

I think you are laying out good groundworks and about ready to start with acids. It's sensible to wait with Retinol on the BHA, I think it would be ok to try the Vit C (provided everything else is well established and you're not testing anything currently) in place of the Nia at night (it's ok to use the Nia 2x a day but it'll depend on the person whether it's manageable/tolerable, you can also use the Nia with the Retinol or Vit C in one routine if preferred). I do think looking towards incorporating an AHA will also be beneficial for you at some point.

Are you happy to go without a moisturiser in the AM?

If the BHA isn't working out for the SF/Blackheads then I do think it's worth getting a facial with extractions (though opinions on how good this really is for skin health are mixed) but you'd need to do it with a good facialist.

How long have you been using the Kiehl's MRC, and how are you generally with coconut oil/derivatives?

Somerset, the C booster is not something I'd recommend to go out and buy as it's a bit messy and getting the right dosage not ideal and there's always the question of whether it gets delivered effectively in the product you use it in (not sure what the instructions are to use it on its own) but I don't see any issue for you in using it in your routine once you have it settled a bit. It's an ascorbic acid powder which is the preferred Vit C ingredient but if it turns things or is orange it may be oxidised.

Somersetlady · 13/12/2016 14:34

Thanks bo its one of the many many many buys I have made. I am particularly awed when in Dubai or the US and confronted with a Sephora I seem unable to restrain myself Shock

wiltingfast · 13/12/2016 14:53

I was in tk maxx at lunch and had a little breakout Blush

I mean

MIZON!

In Dublin!!

They had a pile of sheet masks too but luckily I only saw them on my way out.

They had actual snail cream!! Grin though not the recovery one...

ChocolateRaisin · 13/12/2016 15:05

Thanks for the reply Bo. I think I am just going to get the BHA built into my routine every morning for a few weeks and then introduce the Vit C a couple of times a week in the evenings for a few weeks and then the retinol. I'm just worried if I put the Vit C in and the BHA at the same time my skin will just say no!

My skin was so bad at the weekend with redness, blocked pores and black heads I felt pretty desperate. Thankfully the worst of the rash has gone now, so it's just the blocked pores and black heads to deal with. Hopefully the BHA will address that and I won't have to worry about a facial.

I've been using the Kiehls for about 2 months now I think and as far as I know I have no issues with coconut oil. I've not used it on my face, but have used it plenty of times on my body as a moisturiser with no issues. I'm not desperate to use a moisturiser in the AM, just feel that maybe I should?

AuroraPolaris · 13/12/2016 16:06

Haha the hunt which began so many months ago on the AB thread

Indecisivejo · 13/12/2016 16:22

bo I was wondering about the castor oil in it so will give that a miss thank u. I've never tried a rose water are there any you rec? Or how about that caudalie grape water? Thanks Aurora I've actually eyed this up before.

botemp · 13/12/2016 17:17

I was just wondering if you've ever used one and how tolerant you are to floral waters, Jo. Generally they don't do much beyond a bit of soothing.

Sounds like a good plan, Raisin. Give the BHA a chance to do its thing for a bit. I was just going the down list of possibly congesting products but the clogging is an on going thing that hasn't worsened, has it?

Somerset you're not alone there either, retail shops are lethal, especially Sephora. Most people would be shocked at the level of detail we go through when designing retail spaces to get people to buy things. Aldi and Lidl had special fluorescent light bulbs designed so their products actually look cheap as that sells better Confused.

Am on the phone so can't link but it appears Dr. Sam Bunting just uploaded a video on perioral dermatitis for those interested.

AuroraPolaris · 13/12/2016 17:37

Oh god, yeah, Sephora is dangerous especially in Paris.

So bo are there any special tinted glasses one should wear to counteract this kind of subversive manipulation marketing strategy?
