Superflyhigh I don't really have any wrinkles, don't smoke and have a low carb high fat gf diet. I do drink occasionally. I am slim and feel like my face is sagging a bit.

Pupsiecola · 02/12/2016 10:04

So far so good with the EltaMD. Lightweight, easy to apply, dries quickly. Like it a lot.

For those of you who still have dusty clarisonics I suppose you could use it on your body if you have the patience Xmas Grin. I think the logic behind clarisonics is the same as printers, to sell you the refills/brushes! Skin wise, I think it only really 'helps' very spotty teens who have enough natural resilience to the bacterial contamination and whose can still compensate the damage caused to the skin, and the only reason it works if because they will actually use it as it seems like less effort where before it was a miracle if they remembered to use a face wipe...

Wombletor cost saving exercise mistake #1: do not exchange a high end product for an own brand product like for like thinking it must be the same like in a supermarket. If you're going down the route of affordable cosmetics you'll find it's only a handful of products and a higher % of shit products. Look into the Superdrug Vit E HCC or the Naturally Radiant HCC, those are the only two ever spoken favourable of and I'd go with Vit E over the NR one.

The Ordinary, despite it's bargainous prices, is again not a cost saving exercise as you're simply deconstructing and mixing and matching in the serum stage, TO does not make for a full routine (as much as they like to pretend). As mentioned time and time again on these threads, you really need to understand the actives and what they will do for you. The proposed routine you mention wouldn't best suit your needs, I'd be focusing on different actives (have a look at my response to JDSTER) and before even contemplating it all you need to get yourself an SPF in place.

I know CH always encourages to spend the most money on your serum, I'd say spend it on your SPF. It'll be the most effective anti-ager you can use on its own and you'll be replacing it quite often so it's something to factor in with cost. You're wearing it daily and it has to be pleasant to wear otherwise you simply won't and you won't be using enough and the entirety of your routine of actives hinges on it.

Super, it's not a question of 'believing' in double cleansing like some mythical cult, it's in response to the amount of product you're wearing. A proper SPF that's sweatproof needs a good oil cleanser to budge it, add in daily pollution (esp. if you live in a large metropolis), makeup, etc. The skin, the thing you're doing this all for, has the high chance of not being cleansed as thoroughly as it can, without it all the things you proceed to put on after it will have a tougher time penetrating and won't be as effective. As mentioned before, if I'm not wearing much and unlike with a western SPF I know specifically whether mine needs and oil cleanser or a face wash to remove, I can suffice with a single oil cleanse but that's just from experience of knowing the base line my skin should be to proceed to the next steps after cleansing and it usually means I'm acid toning after so is still sort of a double cleanse.

TO does not have a rose oil, it has a rosehip oil, two very different things. Not all rosehip oils are created equal and can cause some horrible reactions. I'd only ever safely recommend Pai's and with a bit of a disclaimer the Trilogy one.

Super, I can't say I'm much impressed by Nip+Fab's formulations so I can't say how careful you have to be with it. I would say if you're interested in glycolic as an exfoliating acid, don't buy into serums, they likely won't have a low enough pH or high enough concentration to work as such, it's just a bit rampant at the moment to slap glycolic on everything from face washes (absolutely useless, you're just washing it down the drain) and anything else they can sell you on.

What made you buy the l'occitane? It's basically a glorified Vit C product but won't perform as well as a straight up L-AA Vit C product will.

Aurora, from ebay (cosmetic love). It's my own fault, it was heaps cheaper than the rest and figured what the hell. It is a trusted seller, but they were slow to dispatch and probably chose the cheapest shipping option available.

The L'oreal dupes are the pure clay series, the INCI aren't too awful either, some fragrance in there but it's the last ingredient. I think it's more likely that they're origins dupes (which aren't all that impressive to begin with but some really like them) than glamglow but I'll keep a lookout until it's on offer somewhere, think etos might be doing a 1+1 with L'oreal at the mo but I just want one dammit.

botemp · 02/12/2016 10:23

Correction, trekpleister has the 1+1 on all things L'oreal, etos is 2nd 50% off.

TawnyPippit · 02/12/2016 10:36

Botemp I am a lurking fangirl with somewhat iffy skin. But I don't want to annoy you so I'm going to read the whole thread and ask some intelligent questions down the line (winsome Smile)

I think my main question is: would retinol be a good addition for a 52 year old who is already using glycolic acid and if so how/where do I fit it in?

(And YES I am already zealous with my daily SPF - Heliocare gel, 30 in winter, 50 in summer).

AuroraPolaris · 02/12/2016 10:42

bo trekpleister must be the stupidest shop name ever Grin
Hmmm, I'll have a look at the INCI list and see if I want need it. Was never impressed by Origins either. And they always use nasties...
I've always ordered Benton from BeautyNetKorea

Truckingalong · 02/12/2016 10:46

Clarisonic gave me broken veins. Thanks for that!!!

Had fab overnight results from Paulas Choice 2% BA. My shitty middle aged saggy spotty skin has responded beautifully to it. I'm well chuffed :-)

botemp · 02/12/2016 10:57

Depends what you want the Retinol to do, Tawny? Glycolic and Retinol work in different ways whilst doing some similar things so they're not a bad match but if the glycolic is covering your exfoliating needs and that's what you'd want Retinol for too, then it may be a waste. Also depends what else you're using/want to use in terms of actives/hope to achieve.

haha, Aurora, I've always assumed some sort of weird masochist started trekpleister Grin.

Well it was quite annoying with the Benton Steam Cream as they recently changed formulation, so the 2016 version had to be advertised as such and BNK didn't make a mention of it so I assumed it was the older version and why there's probably so many duo offers with the essence currently. The difference between the cheapest 2016 version and the next one was about €10 which is quite a bit on those products, I actually just wanted the samples but I assumed those would be the old version too...

TawnyPippit · 02/12/2016 11:17

Thanks bo. I think I want a transformative lotion for tired looking 52 year old skin Smile. For me, glycolic acid, which I started about 2 years ago, has been a real step change (I use a mild Jan Marini bioglycolic cleanser daily as my second cleanse), and now I have that integrated, I wondered if there is another step. My skin is largely spot free now (I had some blue light therapy and then started the glycolic regime) but it does look a bit dull and dry.

As a contribution to this thread, can I also add two super simple tips I got from the dermatologist looking at my skin: firstly - start off clean; wash your hands before touching your skin and if using a cloth, use a clean one frequently. And secondly - don't overload your product; some of my problems came from a "more of something good is better" approach. It was interesting how little - to my eyes - was needed.

botemp · 02/12/2016 11:35

Tawny, thanks for the contribution, I've never tackled the basics here since the focus of the first thread was on Skincare Ingredients. Washing your hands before starting your routine is essential, as is a clean flannel daily, a skincare routine should also be at the sink, not the shower. The slow and low mantra has been repeated to death but I'll repeat it anyhow, and of course sunscreen!

I have to say if the only glycolic product you're using is the cleanser you're not really on a any glycolic regime. You're just washing it off before it has a chance to do anything, it is very different from acid toning with glycolic.

Boglin · 02/12/2016 11:48

I'm not sure I'm even going to understand your reply to my questionnaire botemp! I'm trying to keep up with the thread and it's all Greek to me at the minute!

AuroraPolaris · 02/12/2016 12:15

Tawny if you want something transformative then you could try going the Lotion P50 way if you can get hold of it.
Start with the P50W (the mildest version) on alternate days (there a small 50ml bottle).
I've been using it for s few years and many here are recent converts Xmas GrinStar

AuroraPolaris · 02/12/2016 12:17

bo what is different in the new version? I hope they haven't messed with the formulation of the es dance al well Hmm
And yeah 10€ is a very big % of those products!

TawnyPippit · 02/12/2016 12:30

Thanks Aurora - I'll definitely give it a try Smile

botemp · 02/12/2016 12:36

Yeah, I wanted to say P50 too... but it's best to know what else Tawny has been using because I'm beginning to sound like I have vested interests in selling P50 these days sample anyone? Grin.

I don't actually know what the difference is, INCI wise they're identical so I assume they tweaked concentrations or something Confused but I figure if I end up liking it I'll have to like the new version and not the old one. It just arrived btw Smile. Have used it on one hand and it looks lovely for this colder weather and if all else fails it'll make a brilliant hand cream, super smoothing and hydrating.

yongnian · 02/12/2016 13:36

pupsie is there any white cast with the elta md?
bo which of these LRP anthelios fluids were you thinking of?:
www.cocooncenter.co.uk/la-roche-posay-anthelios-ac-spf-30-extreme-fluid-for-face-50ml/9459.html

Or
www.cocooncenter.co.uk/la-roche-posay-anthelios-xl-ultra-light-fluid-spf-50-200ml-posthelios-hydrating-after-sun-40ml-free/26491.html

Obviously there is a difference in SPF but there seems to be a difference in the descriptions, not sure which to go. The offer on the second is not an influencing factor, I've got some of that already.

My stila colour corrector palette just arrived Grin looking forward to daubing myself shortly. Had a little try and very liking the texture already, plus practical but attractive packaging.
Result!

botemp · 02/12/2016 13:54

Like the first one but then in 50, I think the other one is a body version. This one, I should warn it broke me out horribly and Aurora had a similar reaction but I think she got the tinted one. Other people seem to be absolutely fine with it though...

Oh let us know how you get on, curious if the youtube yabbers actually got it right with that one Grin.

Nabootique · 02/12/2016 13:56

Goodness, this thread moves fast!

JDSTER I have not tried anything from the Ordinary yet, but I would probably choose the Buffet over the HA serum as it's nice to have extra beneficial ingredients alongside your HA if you are going for a non-complex HA formula , I think. This is why I get on with the NIOD one, I feel. It's more than just an HA serum, as is the Deciem Hylamide, come to mention it, and that's cheaper than NIOD. Have you tried that one?

botemp No, I never got around to the P&M HA serum. I might still give it a go at some point, but I am very happy with the NIOD for now. I feel like the P&M one would be akin to something like the Deciem Low Molecular HA maybe.

botemp · 02/12/2016 13:56

Sorry, this one, I linked the tinted one initially.

hollinhurst84 · 02/12/2016 14:27

botemp, am I missing anything from my routine? I'm having a PMT breakout Angry and slightly flaky skin in patches. I feel like I'm missing something
I don't use SPF unless it's a day I'm off work (work shifts so I go to work and come home in the dark!)

Skin concerns - tendency to cystic hormonal acne on chin, flaky skin sometimes

Am - boots botanics cleansing cream (skin adores this)
TO Alpha arbutin + HA
Secret key 24K gold first cream
Snail gel if v dry
Primer

PM - olay eye makeup remover
Una Brennan oil if wearing SPF/lots of makeup
Balm cleanser - trilogy, merumaya, temple spa, about to start the heimish one
Alternate nights retinol or niaci + the HA/B5
Secret key 24K first cream
Sleeping pack if v dry

yongnian · 02/12/2016 14:45

Thanks for that bo it's out of stock on easyparapharmacie unfortunately so might go for the SPF 30 version on cocoon centre and see if I can find the other version in France.
Yes will report back on the Stila, see if it works for my master plan of first, fab skin, then second cunningly-disguised 'make-up' to fill in any gaps/make me look like I have fab skin!!!!!!

whyistherumgone · 02/12/2016 16:57

Just to let everyone know my local
pound land has a load of Una Brennan products at the moment including the Rose face mask :)

wiltingfast · 02/12/2016 17:30

I also had a clarisonic which i stopped using when a beautician told me it was clearly damaging my skin!!! Arrgh! I now use it on my shoulders and neck which can get a bit greasy. Does wonders there btw. Smile

Are there particular primers people use? I've never bothered but since changing my routine, my skin is eating up my foundation and it is actually quite uncomfortable...

I am STILL waiting on my biore watery essence, if it doesn't turn up soon might try the LRP fluid.

botemp · 02/12/2016 17:34

Difficult to say Hollin, could be several things, hormones, weather, your health, a combination thereof, etc. You don't do any sort of exfoliation in your routine do you? Perhaps you have some sort of resurfacing mask or something like that in your hidden stash to do a bit of gentle exfoliation? Maybe use a sheetmask after, pat some oil in before putting it on as an extra nourishing treatment?

Is everything at Poundland literally a pound Shock. My €4 bargain suddenly feels expensive...

EnidButton · 02/12/2016 17:37

wilting I use Smashbox photo finish light primer. It's pretty good but don't think it'd be suitable for dry areas. I've heard very good things about the No7 ones and think I'll try one of those next.
