Well bo Sinterklaas is almost upon us so we are preparing the "surprises" to take to school... so I've had paint and superglue on my hands every evening and I've washed them so often they hurt...
And you know that before I buy anymore sheet mask I have to get through at least half of the current Taiwanese stack. Grin

hollinhurst84 · 01/12/2016 22:16

I have run out of good moisturisers ShockShock
My skincare drawer has yielded a neutrogena multi defence SPF one so I'm down to that

Pupsiecola · 01/12/2016 22:16

Very good points about the HA bo. I don't think I will buy a replacement for a while. I actually feel well hydrated most of the time. I really am very impressed with the Face Theory products. In fact I am enjoying all my products now (P50 arrived today). If I were to get anything it would be the Una Brennan mask you mentioned. I had already earmarked it. Once my Avene mask has gone I shall try it I think.

When you say we you really mean you, right? They're just sitting in front of the TV or reading the Donald Duck on the toilet while you build these cardboard superstructures trying not to be absorbed by the monstrosities in the process Grin.

www.indigo-herbs.co.uk/shop/buy/chaga-mushroom-powder-chunks

They source the chaga from Estonia and Scotland.

What would you mix it with for a mask? Oh I just looked properly at what you'd written...I'm interested in the mushrooms for skincare and other things - cordyceps and reishi for example...I've been photographing them a lot lately as it's been such a good year for them...im actually a bit afraid of them as they're so powerful...

yongnian · 01/12/2016 22:21

What is sinte klaas and why is craft involved??

BabyGanoush · 01/12/2016 22:22

Fab thread!

I need to get back on the skincare wagon.

At 45, I only slap on some random cream in the morning (Haushka rose, my skin seems to like it) and in the evening: face cloth and water...

There are so many products now, and so much info.

I used to get a beauty box which was great for trying things out.

But ultimately I do not know if any skincare really works... I lost the belief somehow!

Pupsiecola · 01/12/2016 22:23

Thanks bo. So you would use it in place of Vit C. Think I will stick with the Vit C for now but something to keep an eye on for sure.

Thanks Bo for your response. I've been using NIOD copper and HA for a few months now. Onto second bottle of copper, upgraded to 5% when it came out but really not noticed a massive difference in my skin so won't repurchase as it's £££ compared to TO products, although cost not an issue if I can get results.

I'll take a look at YouTube for massage techniques. I've got a Sarah Chapman facial massager that was a GWP.

I use Paula's choice 2% BHA skin perfecting lotion. On my first bottle but had it maybe 6 months.

What do you think of clarisonic? Too harsh? I got it a couple of christmas' ago based on promises of refined pores no less!

I'll take a look at mask you've suggested. I've got a couple of Una Brennan ones and I really like them and usually on offer in boots

Anyone have any recommendations for facials? I'd like one that incorporates extraction. I find most facials are a bit meh. Facial massage bit is good but I suppose I could spend as long and get the same results myself.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your suggestions

Sinterklaas is our St. Nick's celebration on December 5th and he comes from Spain (well Turkey really) but we don't like to talk about it to foreigners as it's impossible not to come off as racist Confused. Even though it's not but you end up having to use the word 'but' and it's too damn hard to explain... helps us out a bit but don't ask too much it's for the children Grin.

When the children stop 'believing' but still want presents they have to make these special 'surprises' that involve a lot of cardboard and are supposed to be a bit mocking and humorous when it's adults but with kids it usually means 'Lucas' drew 'Charlotte' from a sort of secret Santa thing and Charlotte likes horse riding so Lucas' mom ends up making a giant cardboard horse (probably life-size and super realistic to outdo the other mums) and somewhere inside a small gift is hidden and it's accompanied by a poem (usually a rhyme) again they get a bit mocking between adults but remain fairly innocent with children, usually hinting about their likes and what the gift inside is. Horrible dry biscuits are involved (which are suitably just thrown around) and giant chocolate letters.

botemp · 01/12/2016 22:39

Dermalogica do good facials and extractions in my experience. Was considering recommending that to you too but the opinions on extractions are a bit mixed.

Not a fan of the clarisonic, too harsh and upsetting and I don't find it hygienic enough. Long term it damages the skin, I think there's super pricey cashmere brushes available at extortionate prices if you insist on a clarisonic but I don't think they're great for skin health. I've looked into the Foreo in the past, it seems somewhat more promising and not damaging to the skin but I have yet to see really enthused reviews that aren't paid for.

botemp · 01/12/2016 22:40

Pupsie, which moisturisers did you end up getting? If that Benton steam cream doesn't come in tomorrow I think I'm going to order some face theory. Have to figure out if they ship outside of the UK though...

wiltingfast · 01/12/2016 22:40

Aurora, I actually mixed the argan oil with my moisturiser today thinking it would help with makeup, but my face was warm and flushed all day.

Going to quit that too, at least on my face...

AuroraPolaris · 01/12/2016 22:51

Thanks bo for explaining this very nice (but slightly not PR) holiday so well. DS2 came home super annoyed because there were Zwartepieten in his class and one of them jumped on a table and broke it! He's 9 so thinks the whole thing is absurd.

My kids are actually pretty creative so we are doing it together. Above child is making a huge giraffe and his elder brother is making a brick wall through such some giant graffiti letters are going to break through (he's got it all planed in his head, he says). I keep telling them it doesn't have to be "perfect" cause then you can see the mother made itGrin.

Back to skincare - I used NIOD copper last year but didn't notice anything. I know it's supposed to be a long term thing but still...

yongnian · 01/12/2016 22:55

Ok, thank you bo that is quite fascinating aurora I may now need to see these cardboard edifices you've been making!
hollin I think we should start a section of this thread that is photos of 'found in the back of the stash!!'

Pupsiecola · 01/12/2016 22:56

Bo I have:-

Signature Moisturiser (unscented)

Relaxing Night Cream (scented - lovely subtle smell which I seem to be okay with)

I also have:-

Mornings - LRP Redermic (won't repurchase), and LRP Toleriane (will repurchase)

Evenings - Eucerin (using up, probably won't repurchase, just because I feel three different ones are enough for me), Neostrata

I've just realised we're going to be going all through this again in Springtime :-)

Just jumping in to say that I have a dusty clarisonic bought years ago and untouched for ages. It was not good for my skin at all. Too harsh and irritating.

Argan oil is another iffy one for me too, wilting.

Pupsiecola · 01/12/2016 23:29

I tried a Clarisonic a couple of years ago. Only had it for about a month. It really aggravated my skin. I took it back and Boots gave me a full refund. I didn't even have the receipt but they checked my Advantage card for proof of purchase.

Once my oil cleanser arrives I'm going to try the SF removal technique. I tried it before with my Emma Hardie but it didn't work. (I will miss my Emma Hardie; I really do like it and enjoy using it). I'm almost too scared to ask about those nose strips. When I've used them in the past they've been very effective...

Oh good for you for getting your money back Pupsie. Every now and then I vaguely think about selling mine on eBay but haven't yet got round to it. So it gathers dust.

Wombletor · 02/12/2016 07:48

Hello everyone

This is my 1st post on here.

I am 43, I have slightly oily t zone with large pores and dry everywhere else slightly saggy skin. My focus is on anti ageing.

Am : I currently use Clarins cleansing melt gel and extra firming anti wrinkle day cream.

Pm: I cleanse with clarins water comfort one step cleanser and then use Aldi caviar night cream.

To save money, I'm going to swap the clarins gel melt for the superdrug gel oil cleanser, and I'm considering trying The Ordinary's anti ageing regime of Buffet, HA serum, 2% retinoid and rose oil.

What do you think? Is The Ordinary worth a try? I'd like to spend less but still have good skin for my age.

Thanks in advance x

SuperFlyHigh · 02/12/2016 09:22

I purchased Nip + Fab glycolic fix serum yesterday and l'occitane immortelle brightening essence which I think is ok. I never use glycolic acid should I watch out with the Nip + Fab serum?

SuperFlyHigh · 02/12/2016 09:25

Wombletor I'm 2 years younger than you. Personally I don't believe in double cleansing but I think some here do. The main thing which helps me daytime is a good spf at least 40 or 50.

Do you have wrinkles and do you smoke, alcohol etc and what's your diet like?

SuperFlyHigh · 02/12/2016 09:26

Ps rose oil (I don't use it a lot) is nice I use neals yard one. Feels luxe God knows if its doing any good!

AuroraPolaris · 02/12/2016 09:31

Never understood the logic behind Clarisonic. Something that rubs itself against your skin hundreds or thousands of times per minute? It just defies logic IMO. Why wouldn't just massaging your cleanser and/ or using a cloth be enough? Unless you stick your face in tar or something daily.... Xmas Confused (had to use this one ;)

First TO Matryxil report - woke up with fresh looking skin and no negative reactions. So all good for now...

I find it very interesting that some ppl experience dryness following the TO HA. One of these days when I have time I'm going to compare the INCI in all HA serums (nerd that I am).

A nice tip (maybe obvious to some) - if you have a couple of annoying spots you can treat them with a clay mask even twice a day. Just apply a blob on the spot (after cleansing), wait 2-3 minutes and wash off. If the spot is not too stubborn it can really speed things up.

bo you wrote about the new L'Oréal masks as a dupe for the Glamglow in the black or blue packaging?
Sorry your Benton order is taking so long. How annoying!Angry I've actually been pretty pleased with shipping speed last few times I ordered. Where did you order from?
