How did you do your make up when you were at school?

When I was about 13-16 (about 20 years ago now) I used to buy Laura Paige powder from my local chemist (not seen that brand for years) and put loads all over my face. I hadn't discovered liquid foundation so just used the powder Hmm I probably used a shade too orange too Blush

I then wore Rimmel lipstick in coffee shimmer or this really pale frosted pink lipstick.

I think I used mascara but that was it.

I scraped my hair back into a pony tail on top of my head, using half a bottle of hairspray and finished off with a scrunchie.

Rimmel pale biscuit foundation
Blue eyeshadow
Electric blue eyeliner
Mascara
Rimmel Heather Shimmer lipstick with a cherry flavour clear roller gloss over the top
Cream blusher which had a terrible sponge applicator

AeFondCrisp · 27/11/2016 19:34

In the 90's I remember seeing an older friend who had an orange tide line and I thought she/it looked amazing. I nicked my mums foundation and deliberately applied make up to ensure I had a noticeable orange line at my chin and hairline. Complemented the orange with blue mascara. WTF.

Ugh, the memory of mum's face when she picked me up after I had spent the whole afternoon in town prancing about like a wally... Blush

Petal02 · 27/11/2016 19:39

Ah yes, Rimmel pale biscuit foundation - that was a fabulous colour, does it still exist?

everythingis · 27/11/2016 19:42

Coffee shimmer!!!!
I saw a magazine article with that lipstick plus dark blue eyeliner. So those are what I wore for years with way too much foundation so I looked like a vampire! That was the mid 90's

itsbetterthanabox · 27/11/2016 19:53

I wore no foundation just powder. Far too much powder. And some concealer.
A ring of black pencil eyeliner on upper and lower lid, not waterline though. No mascara.
Black or metallic blue lipstick.
I used to pluck my blonde eyebrows very thin and pluck all the front part away as it stuck up so they were really far apart. I had dyed black hair so basically looked like I had no eyebrows.

Foundation mixed with moisturiser. Mascara. Lip balm..... Still wear the same thing!

everythingis · 27/11/2016 22:16

Constance Carroll from the indoor market in letchworth. Them were the days.

Some nail varnish that cost a quid a bottle began with s but can't remember. It was quite cult at the time.

What was that rank lipstick fixer goo called?

neveradullmoment99 · 27/11/2016 22:18

Flavoured lipgloss [ I had lemon] over the rimmel lipstick. The name bonbon and heather shimmer really take me back ha ha...

MozzchopsThirty · 27/11/2016 22:24

charliethebear · 27/11/2016 23:30

I wore maybelline dream matte mouse, applied liberally. Loads of eyeliner, about 100 layers of mascara and natural collection concealer on my lips. No colour on my face at all. And poker straight hair with a giant side fringe 😁
At weekends I wore Barry m dazzle dust in blue and even more mascara and eyeliner.

auldfuckingspinster · 28/11/2016 08:50

Way too pale foundation (Rimmel pale biscuit), lots of kohl, black cherry or heather shimmer lippy. My first eyeshadow palette was a quartet that had banana, emerald green, coral and brown shadows, i used to wear them all at the same time circa 1986.

absolutelynotfabulous · 28/11/2016 08:56

For school: Rimmel Hide the Blemish to cover as much as possible. Then my mother's powder blusher on cheeks, topped with Max Factor's powder from my mother's compact. A bit of mascara. It wore off by the end of the school day, alas.

Weekends: all of the above plus pink frosted lippy, hair in a poor man's Farrah Fawcett style, finished with a slick of bright blue eye shadow and a liberal dose of Aqua Manda.

This was the 70s, btw.

OpalTree · 28/11/2016 08:59

I don't think I wore foundation. I think Rimmel or similar concealer stick, mascara, pencil eyeliner. Eye shadow and maybe blusher when going out. Twilight teaser lippy

OpalTree · 28/11/2016 09:00

I remember people putting Germolene on their lips at school so that if challenged they could say it was for chapped lips

OpalTree · 28/11/2016 09:01

I remember wearing electric blue mascara

Aoibhe · 28/11/2016 14:53

I love this thread!
I always wore makeup to school. I think once you start at all it's very hard to stop as you don't want anyone to see you without your face. Blush

Maybe not at the same time, at least I hope not Shock but...

Rimmel lipstick, a very dark shade like plum or brown
Powder... I think max factor. I didn't discover foundation until I was 16 or maybe 18, so just applied very white powder Shock

Glittery eyeshadow, I remember it was very moist. Purple or blue.

I don't recall wearing mascara.

Sun in on hair or else just a blonde streak at either side of my face Shock

Over plucked eyebrows

Perfume was Charlie girl red (?)

TheTroutofNoCraic · 28/11/2016 20:33

Chalky white (porridgey looking) Max Factor foundation
Black glittery Bourgeois eyeshadow all around eye with flicks of Rimmel Kohl liner (still the best pencil liner in my opinion)
No blusher/bronzer/eyebrows plucked to oblivion
Heather shimmer Rimmel lipstick.

I looked like a badly painted boiled egg.

CatsTats · 28/11/2016 20:45

A foundation 3 shades too light for me
Orange stick concealer
Lots of black mascara giving me the spider lashes effect
Either gold glittery eyeshadow all over my eyelids or gold glittery eyeliner
Lots of black eyeliner
It was not a good look

ladybird69 · 29/11/2016 03:40

Extremely strict all girls school in the 80s No make up allowed, we wore gym knickers ugly flowery summer dresses, etc, compared to the nearby comp we were stuck in the forties/fifties!!!!!

TheMasterMurderedMargarita · 29/11/2016 04:36

Depending on the look.

Lip liner Earth star rimmel lipstick with very dark eyeshadow, lots of mascara no blush sometimes foundation and powder. More often just some concealer. Or the little tubes of green concealer from The Body Shop to correct dark undereyes. Overplucked brows, no pencil.

Or black liquid eyeliner with black cherry lipstick or a brick red lip liner all over lips.

Never dark eyes and lips together. I saw a photo of the first look recently. I had a nose piercing and hair in a French roll..the height of sophistication.

Lips always fixed with Lipcote that stung when you put it on and peeled off.

TheMasterMurderedMargarita · 29/11/2016 04:38

For going out I had either gold or silver liquid eyeliner that I would put on then black eyeliner so I had stripes. And liberally applied face and body glitter.
The shameBlush.

tobee · 29/11/2016 20:03

Rimmel was soooo brilliant wasn't it? All those colours. All that flavoured lip gloss. Who cared if your hair stuck to your lips? You were kissable. 80's girl here! Loved that new romantic/newwave/punk whatever look. I wore make up every day at my mixed comp and no bra. Because I was a feminist!! Now I wear a bra everyday and rarely make up. Do you remember the rimmel magazine ads? I wanted every colour and shade and especially metallics. And I was liberally drenched in impulse nirvana 😜
