How did you do your make up when you were at school?

When I was about 13-16 (about 20 years ago now) I used to buy Laura Paige powder from my local chemist (not seen that brand for years) and put loads all over my face. I hadn't discovered liquid foundation so just used the powder Hmm I probably used a shade too orange too Blush

I then wore Rimmel lipstick in coffee shimmer or this really pale frosted pink lipstick.

I think I used mascara but that was it.

I scraped my hair back into a pony tail on top of my head, using half a bottle of hairspray and finished off with a scrunchie.

My mother's too pale foundation to cover spots, eyeliner on the inner rim of eyes and Rimmel, heather shimmer lipstick, purchased from the local chemist.

Lovely.

I wasn't allowed to wear make up at all for school. outside school i was allowed pale pink nail polish and blusher and that's it. I was absolutely a misfit and it stung. When i left home and was living semi independently, i discovered goth and therefore eyeliner and lots of it. I never quite got the hang of backcombing until some time later but i did and still do love kohl eye liner

Chottie · 23/11/2016 19:52

I was at school in the 70s. It was strictly no make up at school, but we used to slick our eyebrows, eyelashes and lips with vaseline.

Out of school it was Mary Quant eye palettes, mascara blocks which you had to spit into and Mary Quant lipsticks. My hair was long and blonde and swishy........

blueskyinmarch · 23/11/2016 19:53

LONDON! I lived in a town on the east coast of Scotland. Cutting edge it was not!

GinIsIn · 23/11/2016 19:55

I went to school in the 90s, and actually wasn't too bad at make up - I used to nick it from my mum, so Clinique concealer and mascara. My hair, on the other hand, was a state until John Frieda launched frizz ease Grin

LaCerbiatta · 23/11/2016 19:56

No make up at all until my late twenties!

SendARavenToRiverRun · 23/11/2016 20:00

Heather shimmer and coffee shimmer pinched from boots by girls in the year above me and sold in the playground..
Lashings of hide and heal concealer, wrong colour, natch who cares you couldn't see my spots! Black mascara, blue eye shadow and black kohl, inner eye only. Lots of powder but I don't remember foundation. Body shop lip balm and dewberry spray. We also had Constance Carroll, I used to love looking at all the different eyeshadow but rarely deviated from Pat Butcher blue!

I wore Dm's with tippex Disney characters drawn on plus floaty Laura Ashley-esq skirts with a body suit which cut me almost in half as I'm super long waisted. Those were the days Smile
My 11 year has better makeup skills than me.

Georgiesgirl · 23/11/2016 20:09

ThisPasadenahomemaker Would the weird purple one have been Twilight Teaser? Everyone wore it. Suited no one

FurryLittleTwerp · 23/11/2016 20:10

1980s - not much for school, just green mascara really

Going out - blusher (too pink for olive skin), black mascara, green eyeshadow, frosted lipstick (the wrong colour mainly), bright green or red nails. Set off the mad perm beautifully Grin

FurryLittleTwerp · 23/11/2016 20:10

I forgot black kohl.

Ginmakesitallok · 23/11/2016 20:13

No one wore makeup to our school. Outside school foundation which was far too white and very very dark lipstick.

minihobbit · 23/11/2016 20:17

Rimmel hide the blemish over my entire face and Rimmel black cherry lips. Thank the Lord there wasn't social media in the 90s.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 23/11/2016 20:24

I coloured in my brows with a black pencil. So I guess I invented HD brows.
I wore "denim" coloured lipstick from Avon. Ie blue.
How the teachers didn't laugh I don't know!

issynoho · 23/11/2016 20:29

Electric blue mascara! And Rimmel Twilight Teaser lipstick.

Maudlinmaud · 23/11/2016 20:36

Mine was all wrong!
Clear complexion foundation in pale biscuit. Blusher applied like aunt sally.
Heather shimmer lippy. Purple sparkly eyeshadow from boots own range. (I still have this, 20 years on)
I was also a huge fan of glitter in some type of glue which I used on my cheek bones for discoing.

Things have improved.

CaoNiMa · 23/11/2016 20:39

I used to line my lips with black eyeliner and fill them in with some hideous bronze metallic lipstick. Body Shop kiwi lip balm over the top, sperm-tail eyebrows, Geri Halloween (ha! Very apt autocorrect for Halliwell) hair.

Grim!

TSSDNCOP · 23/11/2016 20:56

My hair was enormous. It was permed and then diffuser dried. It looked like I had a sheep on my head, unless it rained and that was a day to dread.

Make up: lots of black pencil, blue mascara and pink shimmer lipstick. If you didn't have at least 4 colours on your eyelids you were finished.

bunnybleu · 23/11/2016 21:25

It was the 80s, nuff said!!Grin

OlennasWimple · 23/11/2016 21:33

I didn't discover blusher until I was in my twenties, which considering how pale I am and how much better it makes me look, was a real shame.

I was a dab hand with the cat's eye liner flick though

dudsville · 23/11/2016 21:37

It was the 80's so I'd rather not go into detail. Suffice it to say my makeup was of the times.

allegretto · 23/11/2016 21:39

I never wore make up to school. It was against the rules and I always followed the rules!

Gusthetheatrecat · 23/11/2016 21:44

Heather shimmer or Earth Star lipstick by Rimmel. A tiny bit of mascara and no eyeliner and I felt dead glam. Whereas now i line my eyes with black liquid eyeliner and put on masses of mascara otherwise my eyes are basically invisible!
Dewberry perfume (actually I just had the bath oil that I used to cover myself in as I was too skint to buy the perfume). And also this frankly vile peach scented body spray that I think was about a pound from Superdrug. I had a little lip compact with a tiny brush and a tiny lip pencil from 17 that I thought was the absolute epitome of glamour.
The main thing that strikes me though was how relatively little makeup I wore. I remember Lucy Mangan writing that teenage makeup is joyful and experimental whereas older makeup is a joyless occupation more like plastering and filling, which resonates with me now!

AVirginLitTheCandle · 23/11/2016 21:44

I used to put my concealer on first and put my foundation on top. I never wore any powder to set the foundation. I never bothered to check the colour of the foundation so it wasn't unusual for it to be completely the wrong shade.

When I wore eyeshadow it would either be blue or purple and I used to just stick it on there without blending it.

BooeyBubbleHead · 23/11/2016 21:45

Translucent pressed powder and lots of it - reapplied liberally throughout the day. Black kohl inside the lid, white eyeshadow & mascara. Black cherry lipstick, set with yet more powder. I was keen on the matte look!

Generous application of Coty "wild musk". Hair gave off strong smell of Pantene.

Flingmoo · 23/11/2016 21:51

Tonnes of Rimmel concealer on my spots as well as Collection 2000 translucent powder. I sometimes still buy that stuff as it's one of the only things pale enough for me, but I always forget it crumbles into a million pieces after a couple of days in my handbag Sad

Heather shimmer lipstick yes, I still go for similar shades now too!

Extremely thin eyebrows. It was 2005...
