How did you do your make up when you were at school?

When I was about 13-16 (about 20 years ago now) I used to buy Laura Paige powder from my local chemist (not seen that brand for years) and put loads all over my face. I hadn't discovered liquid foundation so just used the powder Hmm I probably used a shade too orange too Blush

I then wore Rimmel lipstick in coffee shimmer or this really pale frosted pink lipstick.

I think I used mascara but that was it.

I scraped my hair back into a pony tail on top of my head, using half a bottle of hairspray and finished off with a scrunchie.

Clear mascara, brown/black cane a bit later. Rimmel pale powder and palest Hide the Blemish. Lipgloss was always Bodyshop- usually kiwi.

Perfume- rose musk perfume oil, also by Bodyshop. Side flicky fridge, glued in place by layers of hairspray. The taste of it running down my face in the rain still haunts me.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 23/11/2016 21:55

I used a lot of Rimmel as a teen too. Nowadays I only really like the foundation and I think the mascara is crap.

squiz81 · 23/11/2016 21:58

Oh I'd forgotten about Dewberry Grin I used to wear that and White Musk.

Lipstick was rimmel Heather shimmer coffee shimmer.

Other than I just had a concealer stick that I must have inherited from an older sister and I would desperately try and use it to hide all my spots

ChocolateCupcake123 · 23/11/2016 22:07

I only discovered make up at about 15 (and I'm definitely the type that needs it!) ....but it was my mums liquid concealer mixed with e45 as a DIY foundation, LOTS of eyeliner, mascara, bright pink blush and clear lipgloss. I looked bloody ridiculous looking back.

I also dyed my hair red, must be a teen thing.

Sleeplessinmybedroom · 23/11/2016 22:12

3 thick layers of too orange foundation, black eyeliner in my eye rims, blue eye shadow, blue mascara, bronzing balls for blusher and heather shimmer lipstick. I used sun in on my madly curly, frizzy hair that I tried to tame by blow drying straight in the days before straighteners. It was orange. So glad there were no mobile phones or photographic evidence. Blush

squiz81 · 23/11/2016 22:12

I used to dye my hair with bodyshop henna

OpheIiaBaIIs · 23/11/2016 22:26

I was a goth, so white Leichner foundation with Rommel Black Cherries lipstick and black nail varnish. Coty Wild Musk cream perfume and Hard Rock hairspray - I got through three cans a week! It stank Grin

The eighties have a lot to answer for!

KitKats28 · 24/11/2016 08:21

30 years ago! Mary Quant pink and blue eyeshadow duo. Electric blue eyeliner. Pink stripe of blusher. Electric blue mascara. 17 Twilight Teaser or BonBon lipstick.

I suppose it's no worse than HD brows and contouring....

SendARavenToRiverRun · 24/11/2016 09:05

Oh gosh SUN IN! How could I forget the sticky smelly lemon-ness glued to my head as I frantically blowed dried it to a a temp hotter than the sun! Jeez! It stank. It stung my head. It ran down my face and stung my eyes and I'm sure it did nothing bar dry out my frazzled hair!
Then I discovered bright pink/purple/green dye and left my blonde days behind Grin

JustPoppingBy · 24/11/2016 09:11

I came on to say I went from From punk to anything resembling an Athena poster look, VERY 80's.
Then I saw the Sun-in post!
I loved that stuff, even though it was awful 😂

RockyBird · 24/11/2016 21:58

I only gave up the sun in completely about 5 years ago. In my defence my hair is fair anyway.

RockyBird · 24/11/2016 21:59

It was Rock Hard hairspray in the pink tin with purple lid.

DelphiniumBlue · 25/11/2016 19:38

At school in the 70's, didn't really wear make-up to school - I think we weren't allowed. Possibly just brown mascara and vaseline.
Out of school, Amethyst shimmer, or pale pink lipgloss in a pot from Woolworths (own brand?) or roll on lipgloss, black kohl and Mary Quant denim blue eyeshadow.

falange · 25/11/2016 19:39

It was the 70's. First thing we all wore was liberally applied from a stick of pearly light blue eye shadow. That was it. No mascara or anything. Bought from Woolworths. Progressed to boots 17 shadows. No foundation. No mascara. Eyebrows plucked into a skinny line. Sometimes wore red lipstick. But I was only 11 when I started and everyone looked equally awful.

rightknockered · 25/11/2016 19:47

Started off with mascara, then progressed to black eyeliner. Never plucked my eyebrows, couldn't stand the pain. Thank Fuck.
Gradually progressed to so much eyeliner I became known as Siouxie
Wore a lot of black in college.

Badcat666 · 25/11/2016 19:58

Miss Selfridge pale foundation (thank you mum)
Rimmel face powder
Rimmel Heather shimmer or those cheap roll on lip-glosses you got as a set for xmas (which your hair stuck to)
Rimmel eyeliner in black/ blue or purple!
Mascara in black or blue or purple
Hair was dyed reddish and long and permed and left side was slicked back with the blue hair gel from Woolies and pushed back with evil hair clip with half a ton of hairspray so it NEVER moved and was solid to the touch.

Whatever Impulse spray I had at the time.

On weekends I used to use those batshit mad rainbow colours on my eyes. Always got a St Michael eye kit and one year got a really posh kit from my mum with a zebra print on the top with colours that could make your eyes melt (god I loved that eye shadow kit SO MUCH!) and dark cherry lipstick and a lot more eyeliner.

classy

hecallsmebunny · 25/11/2016 20:13

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Max Factor Pan Stick. 90's Ireland it was the favourite of many a girl, liberally applied all over the face. Too dark for me though. Too pale Rimmel foundation instead. Lots of eyeshadow. Mascara. And yes to the dewberry and even better ananya!! Oh the memories!

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 26/11/2016 04:41

I did rainbow eyes....3 or 4 different eye shadow colours in stripes....in my defense my peer group actually copied my weirdness!!

ClarissaDarling · 26/11/2016 04:53

So much similar! Heather shimmer!! Think I wore a horrendous pink one, baby doll? Lots of black eyeliner and the mascara in pink and green tube, Clinique foundation in square glass bottle, bronzing pearls everywhere!! And spray glitter for nights out!

CallarMorvern · 26/11/2016 07:15

Never at school, we'd be sent home, I got a real rollocking for putting coloured streaks in my hair with DoodleArt pens.
Outside of school I wore Max Factor foundation, which came in a solid compact type case ( bought it at TJ Hughs, my favourite shop at the time). Blue eye shadow, usually Rimmel or Constance Carrol, blue eyeliner on the inside of my lower lid, Rimmel Heather Shimmer lipstick, Rimmel blusher. Big dangly earings and Body Shop perfume (Dewberry, I think it was called) I used Sun-In on my hair.
Wore make-up from age 11, as I had a job from that age, so always had some money.

Fruitellaz · 26/11/2016 07:37

Orange foundation, blue, brown or green eyeshadow, loads of eyeliner on inner rim, nothing on my eyebrows but plucked to about one hair thick Grin

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/11/2016 22:52

●a can of Elnett hairspray
●a good squirt of anais anais
●hide the blemish
●bronze eyeshadow
●at least 8 different eyeliners, applied in a rainbow effect
●black or electric blue mascara
●stripe of blusher
●Heather shimmer lipstick
●lots of back combing and more hairspray

Well, it was 1982 and I had every intention of meeting Simon Le Bon in my local pub (underage of course )

SapphireSeptember · 26/11/2016 23:17

Is it terrible to admit my taste in make up hasn't changed much since I went to school? Blush I think I am a little less heavy handed with black eyeliner than I was...But anyway. My make up looks were based on what Amy Lee wore in music videos and onstage. So, bright pink eyeshadow, black eyeliner, red or bright pink lipstick, sometimes I'd wear silver or sparkly black eyeshadow instead, and black or dark purple lipstick. (I still do these looks occasionally, but with a little more finesse than when I was 16, and I'm still stealing Amy Lee's make up ideas.) Nail polish was black, dark shimmery purple, dark red or bright pink. (Now I will wear anything on my nails so long as I like it, which means every colour of the rainbow.)

Luckily bright pink things suit me, so clearly I was doing something right! I've branched out since then and now wear all sorts of colours.

Badcat666 · 26/11/2016 23:29

Does anyone remember Anne French cleansing milk? God the amount of grime that came off my skin when I used it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/11/2016 23:43

Does anyone remember Lipcote? It was like a clear varnish /sealant for your lipstick.
