Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

I'm just thinking about where my sensitive skin belief stems from. I've used myriad brands and can count on one hand the products that have aggravated. The worst one was Decleor. I had a facial a few days before my 30th birthday (now 47). I bought one product. Next day omg my skin was on fire. I had to sit with ice cubes on it. It was horrific. DH took the product back and got a refund. Have never dared use anything from them again. Wish I understood better which products don't agree with me.

My skin seems to prefer lots of thin layers so serum, oil, light gel moisturiser rather than one heavy layer

EnidButton · 21/11/2016 15:35

bo samples came today, thank you! Flowers Haven't used yet but will start with the Kiehls tonight. Smile

Nabootique · 21/11/2016 16:07

Hello all. Just checking in quickly as I have been AWOL from S&B, and pretty much MN in general for what feels like ages (probably only a couple of weeks!).

I've only skimmed through all that I've missed (you have been busy!) but I did see bo had mentioned Odacite. I've tried 7 of their oil serums and I liked pretty much all of them, including the one for congestion that was mentioned. I can give more detail if anyone is particularly interested.

Re: Kypris as also mentioned by bo. Wholly underwhelming. I have the Anti Oxidant Dew, Prismatic III Array or whatever it's called and I now also have a sample size of the 1000 Roses which came in a Cult Beauty box thing. The latest addition has done nothing to change my opinion on the brand. I really don't get what all the fuss is about. It's just okay. If it was cheaper, I might even say "quite good", but for that price "okay" is more appropriate, I feel.

botemp · 21/11/2016 16:52

Welcome back Nabootique! I'd have to look up which ones I've tried, I think it was the clogged pores, hydration, and pimples one from Odacite. Liked them all, though I did treat them as emergency serums for a few days rather than consistent use. I have been contemplating the eye one as of recent, have you tried that one?

Also, any chance you've looked into Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum? I kind of dismissed it on price as it doesn't look to be all that special on paper but I keep seeing these rave reviews on it pop up but it feels very similar to the overly hyped hoopla that surrounded Kypris.

Enid, glad to hear it arrived safely, though weird yours arrived before Pupsie's as I sent that out a day earlier. Have you checked the INCI on the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate? It has some essential oils in it and I can no longer keep track of everyone's sensitivities anymore and just wanted to make sure.

Pupsiecola · 21/11/2016 17:04

Still waiting for my P50 bo (which is fine, and I know you have sent it).

I'm sorry to say that Vinter's Daughter is as good as everyone says it is, at least for me. Naturisimo sell samples, so I got one of those. Haven't committed to the full size but I wouldn't rule it out. I have a naturally pale and sallow complexion, sadly, which I'm always fighting against and it really made me glow from within, rather than that sort of surface glow, if you know what I mean?

I've used those three from Odacite too! I have the full size of the hydration and pimples ones, and also oily/acne skin, and have used samples of congestion, radiance, vital glow (I think that's what it's called. The carrot seed one)... Oh, so 6, not 7! I have 2 samples of the eye one but I've not used it yet. I can send you one?

Nabootique · 21/11/2016 18:11

*Vintner's. Grr.

EnidButton · 21/11/2016 19:58

bo I have had a quick but not detailed look and it seems fine. Just applied the micro peel but not the concentrate. Thought, if I break out or have problems I'll then know it was the micro peel, nothing else. If I'm ok with it I'll add the concentrate on a couple of days time. I've just used the lrp hydreane over it. (I know that's not great but it's a safe one for me to try something new with.) It stung a tiny bit and feels a teeny bit itchy around my nostrils. Looks ok though, no redness. I used a face scrub (manual) at the weekend so probably just that.

Also used the Keihl's eye cream. That's a weird texture isn't it? Made me dab rather than rub though which is a good thing. Seems very nice so far.

Spotty patch seems to be clearing up a lot anyway, so putting the breakout down to hormones.

Found the ingredients list for the Kiehls midnight recovery concentrate. I am allergic (itchy rash) to Rosemary (and pine) when they're in plant form so guess Rosemary oil is the cause. Still might risk it though.

botemp · 21/11/2016 20:30

Bugger it, Vintner's Daughter bought (the sample that is). Thankfully Cult Beauty seem to sell it and they do the occasional good offer so it's not the end of the world if I end up loving it too. Already had the odacite eye serum in the basket so I'm covered, but thanks for offering, Nabootique Flowers. BTW did you use the VD as a serum or just treated it as an oil?

Enid, the avocado eye cream is indeed very very emollient, you need to pat it in a bit but then seems to sink in well (with me anyway). Maybe patch testing the MRC on your inner wrist is safest, usually a good place to patch test for allergies.

Nabootique · 21/11/2016 21:03

I think I used it at the oil stage but over a very light serum, so a water based, more hydrating serum, then Vintner's Daughter, then moisturiser. It felt like using two serums and skipping the oil, almost, as you really don't need a lot and it sinks in really well. I think the 1ml sample lasted for 4 applications!

wiltingfast · 21/11/2016 21:05

Pupsie, I've added in Vichy's aqualia this weekend and my skin now feels happy.

Haven't settled into a definite routine yet but PM is shaping up as

Double cleanse (Clinique TTFO & LRP dermo cleanse)
TO niacinamide (love this stuff)
TO matrixyl
Aqualia
Toleriane fluid

I spray a bit with serozinc and have been doing an acid exfoliant every 3 days.

I do all that 6.30ish, going to bed I throw on a layer of argan oil too.

It's too early to comment really on matrixyl, it's a bit sticky, I find I have to take the routine slow, give the serums maybe 30 seconds, do a bit of patting/pressing.

I have been putting it on the backs of my hands however (why not, it's so cheap!!) and I can say that they are wonderfully soft and smooth. Grin seem a bit plumper too!

AuroraPolaris · 21/11/2016 21:20

Hey and I naively thought that at least up to name suggestion number two we were being serious HmmGrin

Ok I take back what I said about that pigmentation mark fading. I've examined it in the bathroom light and it's still there.
I use the Vit C after cleanse then brush my teeth and then continue with my routine.
But I still feel that filmy thing. Could it be because of the structure of the serum being a suspension? No idea...

botemp · 21/11/2016 21:37

Good to know I'll get a good few applications out of it, think I'll use it on p50 nights for full effect Grin.

I had a weird experience with the Vit C today, got rained on a bit outside but when I got home I was left a little itchy and rubbed at my face a bit and am now grainy bits central Angry. Nothing noticeable or skin irritating but it's definitely that filmy thing that is now disintegrating. Can't seem to find much info on Isodecyl Neopentanoate and Isononyl Isononanoate, (aside from the latter being a possible allergen) which I assume are the weird filmy causing things, but who knows. I have to say the Vit C is the weirdest skincare thing I've ever used (texturally speaking), and I've tried some weird things...

Ha! We'll just have to see whoever starts the next thread and what they will name it... if it's up to me beware Grin

EnidButton · 21/11/2016 22:15

Bo, good idea to test on wrist, thank you. That's usually where I get the rash from the rosemary and pine plants actually. Have to decorate the Christmas tree wearing fingerless gloves.

The Kiehls eye cream has sank in really well. Think I could wear this under make up and usually I don't bother with eye cream in the day in case it's too greasy. Hereditary dark circles and translucent skin means I layer on the concealers there. Grin

It's a wild night here. Hope everyone is warm and cosy.

Pupsiecola · 22/11/2016 07:39

Thanks wilt. I have tried the Vichy before but didn't like the feel/smell. I did use an oil before moisturiser last night and that did the trick. Thank you. I too swipe the back of my hands.

AuroraPolaris · 22/11/2016 11:15

bo the day I applied too much I also experienced some peeling in the evening but haven't noticed anything since.

You are making me cover yet more oils Shock
Luckily I haven't had time yet to check them out.

AuroraPolaris · 22/11/2016 11:20

OK, I'm trying to entertain myself here today, so here is another absurd title -

Where AB meets WB in a perfect marriage of acids, vitamins, peptides, plant oils and sheet masks, all topped up with a healthy dose of SPF.

botemp · 22/11/2016 11:25

I'd say I'm sorry, but I'm not Grin. I've found another oil now quelle surprise, the Yuli Liquid Courage (supposedly a good second to Vintner's Daughter), still crazy money though but oils is where I tend to spend my money these days with little regret oh how I used to mock my mum for her love of oils. The ME Skin Fuel from the same brand looks to be a good one for combo/blemish prone skin.

AuroraPolaris · 22/11/2016 11:48

And I thought Liquid Courage was something with alcohol in it Grin

botemp · 22/11/2016 11:56

I believe that is also known as Dutch Courage Grin. we should totally use the terrible title

Pupsiecola · 22/11/2016 11:58

Bo my P50 has landed. Thank you so so much. I shall use it tonight in place of my BHA. (PC travel sized AHA and BHA have gone into my overnight bag). Should I then use BHA for a couple nights then the P50 again?

OP posts:
botemp · 22/11/2016 12:31

Good to hear! I was getting worried with the post as it only just passed their maximum allowance for letters. So tonight's Tuesday, I'd wait till Thursday for BHA (just to eliminate any adverse immediate reactions) and try the p50 again on Friday or Saturday and see how you get on but considering you've been using the PC AHA I suspect you're already quite tolerant for AHA use so can move out of the damp cotton stage quite quickly.
