Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

Just PM me your address hollin I have a gazillion that I'll never use sitting untouched.

Thankfully perfume smells shit on me (something to do with the acidity of the skin I believe) so I do not have worry about those costs Grin.

botemp · 20/11/2016 13:50

Or how about: Revenge of the Skincare Nerds Part II: Shameless Musings and Forays into our epidermi (sp.?) with the occasional detour to France, the Far East, and all else that is Lovely

hollinhurst84 · 20/11/2016 13:55

Have sent PM :)

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 14:15

Great bo... and then in (()) just for us two - and occasional ICI discounts Grin
Just kidding, I think it's great!!

By the way, what about oils - can use them for scent or are you too sensitive? Not that one has too, just curious. For me some scents are also huge mood boosters and can even help with headaches.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 14:19

hollin shea butter works for me. Though I have cocoa butter in the kitchen (since I don't eat sugar I make my own 5 min chocolate at timesWink) so I could give it a go. You can also exfoliate with your face cloth or just with your toothbrush

EnidButton · 20/11/2016 15:07

I pile Lansinoh on my lips every night. Used to get bad cracked and chapped lips but not even slightly dry since using that. (It's 100% lanolin.) Not the best for daytime as it doesn't look brilliant if you put a lot on and it's very greasy feeling but for a nighttime treatment I highly recommend it. It's in the baby section of Boots. Often goes on half price or 3 for 2 offers. m.boots.com/h5/cat_hub?unCountry=uk&path=%2Fen%2FLansinoh-HPA-Lanolin-Nipple-Cream-1-x-40ml_1310106%2F

hollinhurst84 · 20/11/2016 15:16

Lots of options then! I can't use at night as it gets everywhere then my chin/jaw/mouth breaks out Hmm so i am trying to remember to use more during the day

Pupsiecola · 20/11/2016 15:20

I have a Sugar lip balm by Fresh which I really like.

botemp · 20/11/2016 16:25

I've had a custom oil based perfume in the past but I hardly ever used it. I tend to prefer citrus/light floral scents which is hard to replicate in oils I think. I just use a lot of Orange blossom water in my clothing steamer instead.

I've always wondered if that Laneige overnight mask for lips was any good. I tend to dismiss a lot of Korean things on their gimmick factor but it may actually be good... Hollin, if you have a sheetmask you can just wear it slightly askew for some hydration and seal with some type of occlusive.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 17:11

Ah bo,** as opposed to skincare we don't have similar taste in scents. I like intense, musky perfumes with nodes or rose, jasmin or lilly (to be applied sparingly, of course).

botemp · 20/11/2016 17:18

As I'm getting older I'm becoming more appreciative of musk scents as I've discovered there's more range to it (of course it's the more expensive ones I like, thankfully limited to scented candles), still can't get on with patchouli and whatever it is that I term 'old man' leathery-woodsy smells.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 17:27

I agree most patchouli stuff reminds me of being a teen and a friend who used to douse herself in that every day before school Grin

EnidButton · 20/11/2016 17:34

There was a girl at my college who stunk of patchouli. I thought she was so sophisticated. Grin Can't stand it now.

botemp · 20/11/2016 17:41

Sophisticated Shock!

It will forever remind me of moths (patchouli oil is great against them) and a few of my mum's friends who always shroud themselves in lots of flowy fabrics which I'm sure contain the world's entire supply of patchouli.

EnidButton · 20/11/2016 17:43

She was allowed to stay out the whole weekend!

Probably so her parents had time to air the house.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 17:58

Haha my friend was pretty mad and in spite of being very smart married an American marine she hardly knew almost straight out of school. Well, I'm sure you can imagine how well that went.

yongnian · 20/11/2016 21:22

Liking the proposed new thread title!!
aurora the house is quite romantic I suppose....and it's handy for justifying an overly time-consuming/expensive interest in traditional knitwear, sheepskin slippers/garments and indeed any item of clothing more commonly worn by various tribes people in Siberia. And this is after we had central heating installed!
I am now Officially Hardy, despite not being genetically inclined.
Meanwhile, in weird burnt eyelid scenario, skin is inching its way back to some kind of equilibrium and I am sulking less about basic skincare as I cautiously reintroduce stuff. However, I seem to have an itchy slightly sore under-lower-lip edge. It's all so odd I do wonder if it's all part of the same allergic reaction or just seb derm. Fecking annoying whatever it is.
Getting my list together for forthcoming trip to France.... Grin and also have a list for a couple of things from TO, one from PC and something from United Pharmacies for my rosacea.
Poised to make my move once I've got myself organised for Christmas, French trip etc.(Rubs hands on thighs in an unpleasant manner).
I've been restrained for far, far too long - the beast will be unleashed!

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 21:48

Well French pharmacies are like a bit of heaven on earth...

botemp · 20/11/2016 22:43

You do have to sort of know what you're looking for in those crazy pharmacies as they sell so many weird products, all the cellulite and slimming products, the weird supplements that will give you a tan more likely turn you a nice shade of orange, the endlessly long strips of individually wrapped marshmallows, not to mention all the seducing multiple buy offers, etc. etc. I think French pharmacy brands are due a bit of a revival, YouTube seems to keep suggesting I watch some French pharmacy brand videos but not the usual haul ones, but more recent ones usually from some fashion magazine featuring an admirable Parisian revealing her 'secrets' always that Bioderma.

Speaking of trends, it appears my kelp extract interest is also an ingredient to watch, apparently we are to expect lots of new products containing it, on it here. Can't remember if Aveeno is evil or not though...

I missed your added suggestion earlier, Aurora, how about:

Revenge of the Skincare Nerds Part II: Shameless Musings and Forays into Our Epidermides with the Occasional Detour to France, the Far East, and All Else That Is Lovely (with an Intermittent Dutch Dalliance, or Two)

No one will dare click on this, will they

Update now on my 2 week dalliance with TO. Retinol still clogging my pores but daily BHA (more than I've ever used it) seems to keep it all clear. Will work for the interim but not ideal for me. It has been keeping my skin nice and clear and the minor (period related) spot I had did disappear a lot quicker than usual and didn't stay dark for all that long (though have to consider Vit C has effect on this too).

As mentioned not a fan of the weird filmy layer of the Vit C but I've now become accustomed to it and I don't hate it as much anymore. It's an unapologetic workhorse, ours is an intellectual marriage of sorts I suppose.

The Lactic Acid 10% may actually be doing something Shock! Had a bit of a peeling party the other day (nothing scary, my skin tends to do this naturally now and then). KP definitely less now (smaller in appearance), however I seem to have 1 or 2 spots on either arm now which I've never had before, looks like a bit of a purge Confused.

Only been using the Niacinamide for a week now but loving the results and not missing the products I used to rely on for my Niacinamide dose. It also seems to be helping with the clogged pore business induced by the Retinol.

Pretty pleased so far with TO.

Pupsiecola · 21/11/2016 07:21

I'm getting used to the TO Vit C too. Not sure whether I'd repurchase. Might try the AC via eBay next and then see which I prefer.

Also want another night time moisturiser. LRP Toleriane not enough. I might see what Face Theory have as I am enjoying their day cream.

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 21/11/2016 10:27

Maybe the shorter name is better... my last suggestion was a joke Grin

Though it's early days I think I'm pretty pleased with the TO Vit C. I've had a few hectic days and besides the above did my usual morning routine but somehow my skin didn't feel as dry as it normally would in such circumstances. I also suspect that a (tiny) very stubborn pigmentation mark from a spot back at the end of the summer has suddenly begun to fade the last couple of days.

bo do you also feel it works almost like a primer "holding you face in place" throughout the day? Hmmmm maybe it's my imagination Confused

Almost done with my Hylamide and when that happens will open the TO matryxil and report.

botemp · 21/11/2016 10:54

I thought the entire title was a joke and have been treating it accordingly Grin

Yes, that film and my sunscreen seem to be making for very smooth makeup application. I've been meaning to look into what exactly it is, as it's not a silicone and how permeable it is since the 'where to apply it in your routine' advice seems to be different than other Vit C. I now do HA after it but I think officially it should be the other way round but don't seem to suffer any adverse effects.

Do you do oil and Toleriane, Pupsie? I tend to find oil + moisturiser a better fit than a richer moisturiser. Whilst waiting on my snail cream to arrive I've been sampling the Rosa Arctica cream from Kiehl's which is surprisingly nice (normal-dry) but find it far too expensive for what it is, which is a shame. Noticed they also had a very nice mineral sunscreen now, very similar to the SC one with the same slight tint that is surprisingly flattering.

Pupsiecola · 21/11/2016 11:08

Think we'd better stick to the "OP starts new thread so therefore comes up with title " rule ;-)

I thought the same bo; I've been putting the Vit C on then waiting half an hour (just cos I can, and to let the tingling subside). Then following with HA (since switching that to mornings).

I have been using oil before bed. I feel a bit bleugh about adding too many layers at once. I don't know why. I think the "keep it simple for rosacea" mindset? But the truth is my rosacea is so early onset, and so well managed (touch wood) that you wouldn't even know I have it. I have only ever had one flare up 5 years ago, which is when I was diagnosed. Although one could argue that it's precisely because I've kept it simple that it hasn't developed further. Although for me avoiding triggers is the game changer. Would this be too much in one go for PM:-

Cleanse
AHA or BHA
Retinol
Oil
Moisturiser

I guess the only way to know is to try it and see but it that quite a normal number of steps for geeks like us?!

OP posts:
botemp · 21/11/2016 11:35

I try to keep my routine as minimal as possible but I do have a sort of deconstructed approach since I find 'all-in-one' products not all that efficient and my skin doesn't seem to like heavy products and I don't have need for certain ingredients (eg. Collagen, you find it in a lot of nonsense products and it does absolutely nothing typically). As long as the different layers don't contain a lot of filler ingredients I have never encountered issues with layering since they all tend to be light. I'm sure if I were to do a heavy moisturiser with an oil blend that isn't very pure I'd be inviting in a lot of trouble so it really is dependent on what you are layering iyswim. I think the general advice against too many layers is the same advice here, throwing the kitchen sink at your face because 'it sounds good' is unlikely to result in much success.

botemp · 21/11/2016 11:36

*topically not typically
