Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

BTW I wasn't searched for cosmetic fridges. Rather info on where to store products:-

I keep everything in the bathroom which never goes above 21 or so and has good ventilation so it never steams up or smg. I keep the heating there at min and I don't take baths frequently anymore cause I get too hot at night.

Alas there is no room in the wardrobe (2/3 of which is occupied by myself, not to mention the other wardrobe in the guest room) Grin

hollinhurst84 · 19/11/2016 17:45

Aurora - one of my weaknesses too Grin
Specifically the LA splash liquid lipsticks

botemp · 19/11/2016 18:52

I'm not allowed to talk about nude lippies but I get baited with mini skincare fridges Shock! Ellis Faas L108 is a fab nude even though the delivery system is shit and I know the guy who designed them and delight in telling him what an utter shit of a product designer he is and that he better develop a better version soon. Now what are these LA splash lipsticks you speak of?

Welcome, Purple and sammy891!

Sorry, no experience with Murad. I tend to find the imported premium lines from America a bit expensive for what they are, I believe there are supposed to be some standout products in that range but I'm just not prepared to pay their price tags in a blind sampling. I'm never against facials, though, but do regard them as a bit of luxury and pampering which has its place in skincare but resist the temptation to buy all the tat they push at you when you're in that lovely indulgent hazy after phase.

The contraindications are dependant on strength, and most Retinol 'rules' tend to stem from Retin-A (some purposefully by Retinol manufacturers as it makes their products seem potent and medical like). In the case of Pixi (I think it's 5% glycolic at a relatively high pH) and Redermic (0.3% I believe) I wouldn't be too concerned about using them together, probably will improve the effect of the Retinol unless either product indicates not to use them together of course. You can most definitely use the BHA with Retinol within one routine or do BHA then AHA in the morning if preferred.

Pupsie, I wouldn't cleanse in the AM before exercise, you sweat it all off so no point. Water rinse if you're feeling oily then just a drop or two of facial oil followed by SPF, then do cleanse and routine post workout.

Retinol can be used AM or PM, I believe it's Retin-A that can't be used AM (but I'd have to check to be sure). However, considering how lacx people are about SPF (not using enough, the right type, etc.) it's just safer to idiot proof these statements and say PM only.

That Odacite fridge looks a bit tiny for my purposes, was actually looking at the wine fridges as they can do lowish room temperatures... Odacite actually make some lovely oil based serums, you can buy mini vials from the Naturismo sample dept. which is great as most are targeted problem solvers so you don't need much of them. Can't remember which one it was but there was a really good one for congestion.

EnidButton · 19/11/2016 20:44

That fridge is adorable! It's gone on my 'when I'm rich and ridiculous' list. I'll have one for each skin care range or an AM PM pair.

yongnian · 19/11/2016 20:55

Mmmm nude lippies.....I've wasted spent more time than is advisable thinking 'now, what is my actual exact natural lip colour?' In order to determine the 'my lip colour but better' conundrum.
I don't need a skincare fridge. My house is 500 years old and fffff-freezing....I was gawping at your bedroom temps aurora Grin

AuroraPolaris · 19/11/2016 21:22

And there I was thinking I'm so very sensible in being satisfied with 21 degrees as I know a lot of ppl that keep theirs at 23 or more... we simply have double glazing and central heating on central gas so it's pretty controlable. But 500 years old sounds very romantic...,

One of my fav nudes at the mo is Chanel Adrienne, though I'm still angry they discontinued my other fav nude from about 10 years ago. Angry And that was after they discontinued my fav red from still further back!!!!!!
That nude you pointed to bo looks a bit too beige for me. Hurrah one thing less on the wish list!!!

hollinhurst84 · 19/11/2016 21:48

No lipstick issues! Grin I love the la splash ones as they last on me all day without budging, even with eating and drinking but I'm a massive matte lipstick fan

botemp · 19/11/2016 21:59

I have rather berry lips as my base so my nudes are probably a bit different, I've sampled a few that just don't show up at all. I do differentiate between nudes and neutrals, the Ellis Faas is definitely a nude and needs a bit of blush to avoid looking like death warmed over. It is lovely but as long as the Ellis Faas products come in those shitty twisty bullets I'm not buying a thing from them, it's a PITA hoping something will come out only to get a giant blob that's 5x more than you need Angry.

The heating is at 19.5 here after much arguing and negotiations, bedrooms are even cooler since I don't sleep well in a warm room. My grandmother had hers at 25 and did not believe in winter wear, but then she was born in the tropics so I suppose it made sense the gas bill surely didn't.

I just finished watching a programme that calculates the cost of products and it happened to be about moisturisers. Was rather uninformative on the whole as it focused far too much on the cost of rare plant extracts but I was a bit surprised to learn at how much cosmetic companies spend on marketing, it made up about 50% of the cost price which is quite a lot as this was about moisturisers in the £40 range. I'm left wondering how effective those ads really are as I don't think I've ever bought into a moisturiser on the back of an ad, though I probably have in the form of magazine editorials that are practically ads.

EnidButton · 19/11/2016 22:10

Ooh Hollin, that's a beautiful sight. What's the red Rimmel Kate one?

I can't really do nudes. Have come close to mlbb but I need colour. I'm too cool toned pale I think and my lips are pretty deep pink to start with. Did have a Clinique gloss that was a nude gold colour that I liked but that may have been because it smelt of toffee.

hollinhurst84 · 19/11/2016 22:17

It's shade 110 - vibrant coral
Got a Ciate liquid lipstick this week too which seems very nice but haven't worn all day to comment on the wear time yet

EnidButton · 19/11/2016 22:37

Had a Google, I like it, really bright. I don't suit coral shades but fancy getting a couple more of the Rimmel Kates, they're really pigmented. So good for the price.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 07:01

Yes we should all reconsider the cost of products in light of TO pricing. Whether they work for you or not they are still making a profit, I'm sure.
That's why I get annoyed when something expensive is full of silicones or MO or SLS and the exotic ingredients mentioned on the packaging are waaaaay down the INCI list (and I'm not obvs talking about stuff that can't be more than 0.xx%). Of course being the hypocrite that I am I'd still reconsider buying the Sulwhasoo stuff I'm in love with at the moment Wink, well or at least repurchasing samples.

Forgot to mention our night temp is set to 16 degrees and I too can't sleep if it's too warm so the bedroom radiators are really on minimum necessary.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 11:32

Yeah nude lippies can be tricky. I also think it's a matter of age. Whereas in the past I found I could get away with more whitish or beige pinks, now they wash me off and the shade and undertones have to be "right". For me personally coral tones are the best. Same goes for eyeshadows. Cannot wear pink eyeshadow anymore. It truly makes me look sick.

OK ladies BLACK FRIDAY is almost upon us. Have you already spotted good deals??

botemp · 20/11/2016 12:17

Very true about the undertones, I tend to switch up a bit with the seasons as I'm more neutral so can go cooler in winter and warmer in summer.

Black Friday seems to be a week event this year Confused. Nothing of interest so far though which is a shame as it appears to be the perfect weather for staying in and doing lots of online shopping.

I need Selfridges to offer some free international shipping but for whatever reason I'm not receiving their newsletter anymore. I'm still trying to figure out what I'd actually want from Deciem if they do anything exciting come BF. Naruko seem to have lots of offers but it's US only. Missha US is doing 40% off too but don't think their EU one is. I could probably stock up on a few things but I fear my sensible 'let's wait on Black Friday deals' won't yield much this year in the end.

Am currently eyeing this Swedish facial oil, which has sea buckthorn (supposed to be great for sensitive/rosacea type skin) and peptides, not a combo you see often. The reviews on the site are also highly complimentary (they are reliable on that site) so am very intrigued. Might just get the sample set first, the cleansers from that brand look interesting too. I do also remember that webshop having very good BF deals last year. Can't remember what other shops did, could really use some things from SpaceNK, for whatever reason I have only just discovered Chantecaille do a brow version of my most beloved mascara with the same growth inducing peptides Shock I have to have it now of course.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 12:50

Haven't seen any interesting deals either Hmm

Speaking of nudes - I'm really enjoying the Clarins Instant Light at the moment. I'd forgotten how good they are for winter dryness.

botemp · 20/11/2016 12:55

I saw those for 50% off at the Bijenkorf, stupidly didn't get any thinking I'd do it on the way back, only to forget and now they're gone Angry. Still getting over my utter disappointment with the Clarins Lip oil thingy though, it's nearly done but I can't fathom why people went gaga over them, they're a sticky mess that do very little.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 13:01

I haven't tried the oil. Hate sticky lip stuff. My hair always gets stuck to it.

I didn't buy it at the BK but a month or so ago at ICI when I had to reach a certain amount (was buying someone a very nice present) to be eligible for one of their massive discounts.

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 13:02

I think that after BF we'll need a new thread too Wine

botemp · 20/11/2016 13:10

We should call it 'Revenge of the Skincare Nerds Part II' Grin.

ICI have been bombarding me again, I think it's 30% off when you buy three things. I'm guessing they and Douglas will be doing a one off discount again on Friday or Monday, I'll have to see what I actually want and figure it all out on the day.

hollinhurst84 · 20/11/2016 13:30

Any recs for a lovely lip balm that isn't blow the budget prices?

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 13:39

Well the above Clarins - a not too sticky or shiny gloss that works wonders. Last one I had lasted ages!
Am now also using an Apivita beeswax and olive oil based one that comes in lots of shades and is also great. I have the cherry shade. Don't know where you could get hold of them. The Weleda one is also great.

botemp · 20/11/2016 13:40

With or without colour? I tend to look for ones with cocao butter, supposedly that's best, the rest do v. little for improving the condition of your lips. However, if you're in a bind and super chapped something with mineral oil does the job better (the Kiehl's one is actually really good and I have about 500 of them as they hand them out for free so if anyone wants some?). Also, the ps Pro Primark lip scrub that I tried on the back of my hand seemed really nice but I have yet to look up the INCI.

hollinhurst84 · 20/11/2016 13:44

Super chapped - being outside with the horses! I'll have a look for the Kiehls one as never tried any of their stuff and heard good things
Colour I have sorted, I like the burts bees ones but they're not coping with my peeling lips Grin

AuroraPolaris · 20/11/2016 13:44

Great name bo! That or skin care musings and other forays into all that's lovely Grin

Hmmm I need to renew one of my fav perfumes, but I already saw a very good offer through Bol.com. We'll see if ICI can outprice them Wink

Oh for the day where I feel I don't need anythingConfusedSad
