Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

Hello all, I'm back.
I've been having a skin mini-crisis. I've been having a minor patch of what I assume to be seb derm on my eyelid...had it before there...then suddenly it flared up into this angry red sore swollen eyelid thing...slightly alarming. I have been treating it with kid gloves, as you can imagine (and was poised for the docs if it didn't calm)...stopped all but the most innocuous of skin care, even on the rest of my face.
I think it may have been some kind of allergic flare, though am not sure what to...it could well be because I did my cattier pink mask the day before it flared and whilst I'm always v careful to keep away from eyes, whilst I was washing off in the bath, I realised afterwards I'd smeared some near my eye and some was actually smeared on my eyelashes.
The swelling and soreness has now completely gone thankfully and I'm just left with major flaky dry creased bagginess, presumably after the lid being overstretched with the fluid.
I'm continue to treat v delicately...
To this end I've been looking at moogoo irriatated skin balm for this kind of thing, as generally the seb derm is hating the onset of winter. I've been layering rice bran oil, cica cream and a little urea on the dryness (on my forehead, not the poor eye) and keeping water away, which seems to be working...treating with clotrimazole or Daktarin if it flares.
It's all slightly taking the fun out of my skin care just now!! :-(((((((

wiltingfast · 18/11/2016 12:43

ooo sympathy Yongnian that sounds nasty :( I do hate it when I have to resort to totally plain skincare. Though have to admit my skin has calmed down on botemps recommended regime Smile

I was a bit agog at the retinol advice to pregnant ladies, but have to admit I quite like CH really. She's v watchable and the fundamental advice to me seems pretty sound (routines/cleansing etc). Getting on great with the serozinc spray which I would never have picked up if she hadn't recommended it as I thought from looking at it, it was for acne type skin.

As regards products, she does seem a total (expensive) magpie. Her skin must be v solid.

Ok, first TO report.

Liking the niacinamide so far. Woke up with two massive sore underjaw zits this am, one fled the scene immediately and the other is a shadow of its former self Grin so far so GOOD.

Re the HA (sorry bo), this sounds mad, but my skin looks drier???? Used it last night and this morning and my fine lines seem more pronounced. Sad

V early report obvs (barely have the stuff 24h!!) will see how it goes.

Will try matrixyl tonight heh heh heh

wiltingfast · 18/11/2016 12:44

Oh yongnian, meant to say, cicaplast from La Roche Posay is my go to for skin irritations like that. Seems to work well on all sorts in our house...

yongnian · 18/11/2016 12:53

Thanks wilting yes I've got some circa stuff from topicreme, which is similar and great normally but have been treading v carefully with even this for now!

yongnian · 18/11/2016 12:53

Cica even!!

botemp · 18/11/2016 13:03

yongnian, hope you recover quickly, that sounds like real bad luck Flowers

wilting, were you always the naughty one in class or just the impulsive one? Feedback has been mixed on their HA, I actually think for hydration issues their 'Buffet' serum seems like a better fit than the stand alone HA that has a very similar INCI to the Skinceuticals B5 Gel which is a bit of a cult product for acne sufferers. Did you follow it up with some sort of water rich product/moisturiser?

yongnian · 18/11/2016 13:45

Thanks bo it's over the worst now, will just proceed with caution and nurse it along...gah!!

hollinhurst84 · 18/11/2016 15:27

Any thoughts on this moisturiser?

AuroraPolaris · 18/11/2016 15:41

My sympathies too yongian Flowers

My SOS product is Clarins Lotus Oil, but I think it would be too much in your case.

Has anyone ever tried the Clarins SOS thingy?

I love the Beauty Flash Balm. Seems like nothing, but after you've applied make up you can certainly see the difference!

Shop · 18/11/2016 16:12

Hollinhurst I use that moisturiser every day.
I have combination skin & very prone to breakouts on jaw, chin & occasionally cheeks. Its great under makeup but not enough on its own at nighttime for me.

OpenMindedSceptic · 18/11/2016 16:21

wilting I found the same thing with TO HA. It has settled a bit now but have to use more moisturisers than usual after I use it in the evening.

OpenMindedSceptic · 18/11/2016 16:28

Correction moisturiser

hollinhurst84 · 18/11/2016 17:24

Got one of these masks in my beauty box... Looks good! They also sent me bright red liquid lipstick and black liquid eyeliner. They know me well Grin

Pupsiecola · 18/11/2016 17:25

I have finally found a hand cream with SPF that I like (historically not many hand creams have contained SPF).

Neutrogena Hand Cream

I'm feeling saintly as I just cleaned my make up brushes for the first time in too long. Going to try to do it every Friday night. I only use them sporadically anyway so I often forget.

TO Caffeine Solution has arrived. Should I keep it in the fridge? (I like my eye products cold). I had not realised my slight puffiness was down to this however...

"Fat deposits under the eye contour can create permanent puffiness in this area. This type of deposit cannot be improved with topical skincare, including this formula".

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 18/11/2016 19:02

pupsie have you tried getting rid of the puffiness with ice cubes (plain water or green tea) warped in gauze or one of those ice eye masks?
I always wash my face in the coldest tap water in the morning and cup water in my hands and repeatedly apply on my (closed) eyes. In my case it makes an enormous difference!

Pupsiecola · 18/11/2016 19:11

Thanks aurora. I don't tend to use extremes of temperature on my face due to rosacea. However, I do have a gel filled eye mask thing that I keep in the fridge (but keep forgetting to use!). But your post has just reminded me that it's there, thank you :-)

I know that some claim caffeine can help with cellulite and I guess that's where it comes in re the eye serum?

Some of the best money I've ever spent is on a silicone cleaning brush mat that you attach to the bottom of your sink from ebay (will look up the listing for those interested), turns out to be the Sigma one for a fraction of the cost directly from China. It's a joy to use super quick and cleaner than I ever get them. I only do powder brushes once a fortnight, used to do face brushes once a week but now use the Beauty Blender mainly and deep clean that after every use as it still squicks me out to use a dirty one. Apparently the mini ones (for concealer and detail work) from Primark are as good if not better than the original mini BB, though I'm not all that tedious with my makeup so am wondering if I'd actually use them even though they're like 4 for £3 or something and I need to go there to get another nude lippie I don't really need.

Dr. Sam Bunting once recommended using the LRP Anthelios rich cream version as a hand cream which I thought was smart, I also don't mind the approach of using your SPF as a moisturiser where I feel it insufficient (in terms of broad spectrum SPF) the other way round. Though in winter my hands are always gloved outdoors so SPF feels useless and the rest of the year I just apply my facial SPF and since it's a water resistant one I know it'll last at least a bit. I should really have a top up one for in my bag though.

As far as I understand it, Caffeine has a temporary effect, it constricts and therefore gives the appearance of tightness and temporarily reduces swelling (provided it's water based, not a fat deposit). (Used) coffee grounds do make for a great cheapy scrub, just suspend it in some oil of choice and add some sugar. Supposedly Su Man's facial version is wonderful but beyond some added essential oils and a surfactant I can't really see what's so special about it vs. a DIY one.

I am still looking for some eye mask wormy thingies from Korea, as they're much cheaper from there as supposedly it's really beneficial to use daily. Also really handy to apply while doing eye makeup as it catches all the fallout (you do base after). The Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask are supposed to be out of this world amazing but still pricey (and probably more suited to people with formed wrinkles). I do have a pair from Verso (GWP) that I seem to be saving for best, I think I really need just start picking random dates in my calendar to use these things...

Also, warning for those who have seen LE's latest video, don't do what I did and download that app it's all round amazing except where my wallet is concerned and apply the filter with the 'look' to yourself, it makes the urge to buy everything she used even worse. Am now foolishly considering getting semi-permanent eyelashes again since I suck at applying fake eyelashes in any other way than 'wonky' and all the rest is sitting in virtual baskets waiting for Black Friday deals.

Jolse has 25% off everything at the moment Hollin, including the Heimish balm, don't know if it's much cheaper than normal though.

AuroraPolaris · 18/11/2016 21:38

I still have some DIY sugar and coffee scrub lying around somewhere but I made it as a remedy for winter body dryness as I really don't believe it can influence cellulite. Can't remember anymore which oil I put in it...

sammy891 · 19/11/2016 09:15

Just finished reading through the whole discussion and ordered a few bits in the process including Paula's Choice Resist bha and Resist Wrinkle spf 30. Interested in trying things from The Ordinary brand as well. I already have quite a lot from Bravura and like their products a lot. hollinhurst84 I use that moistiriser in the mornings and it works well for my oily skin.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 19/11/2016 09:20

hollinhurst that mask looks good, which box do you get?

I received some Argon oil from these people I've seen they do Cacay oil which is even better than rosehip.

hollinhurst84 · 19/11/2016 09:33

I get pink parcel Smile

botemp · 19/11/2016 11:16

Interesting, never heard of Cacay oil before, seems to be a bit of a trend to obtain these 'exotic' oils touted as local centuries old anti-agers only now discovered like Marula, Kukui, etc. etc. Handy that you can get a smaller sampler first though.

I am wondering about people's experiences with oils, as much as I can appreciate a single blend they can be a bit one dimensional and functional which has its merits. I don't know if it's purely psychological or that the usually more expensive blends of oils somehow seem better/more of a delight to use than they really are? Have toyed with the idea of making my own blends before but the initial layout seems way too much and I'd never use up that volume of oils before it'd go rancid.

wiltingfast · 19/11/2016 12:15

I've just been using the toleriane fluid and some argan oil then before I go to bed.

Possibly not enough water for the HA I take it? So it pulls it from my skin??

I'm getting on well with the argan. Loved rose hip before I reacted to it. The argan not really making any noticeable difference whereas rose hip did. Agree the little bottles of facial oil look incredibly tempting. Grin

LumpySpacedPrincess · 19/11/2016 12:17

I love oils, always have and always will. I love the occlusive effect that they have and how comfortable they make my skin feel. they are pleasurable to use even when they are unscented. I think the way that the oil is extracted and treated until it's bottled will have an effect on the quality and that tends to cost more. When I was poorer and younger I used any cheap rose-hip oil I could find with no known detrimental effect though.

I love oils in the winter when the heating is on, I work in an overheated building and it makes my skin so thirsty.

I've always used oils and sunscreen, way before I fell down the rabbit hole and discovered all the other ingredients that worked for me. I'm 46 now and have a few very fine lines and that's it. To be fair I don't use skincare to look younger, though it does have that effect. I use skincare because it's part of my self care, it's a hobby I enjoy with a known benefit.

hollin I've never tried pinkbox though I've seen it. I'm currently on the You box gold package and GlossyBox, just over a tenner including delivery and you get to choose 4 items for the box.
