Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Bad Wilting! What happened to the sensible one at a time mantra that has been stuck on repeat here? Grin

Nip&Fab do have alcohol in them don't they, I think that's why I've never wanted to try them. They could be causing dehydration but it can also mean that a foundation that used to work well for oily skin is less suitable for combo-normal-dry.

I only discounted some of their other products, eg. the cleanser has pumic stone in it Shock. The moisturisers while pretty clean do have essential oils (citrus) so they don't make for good universal recs like LRP. The Retinol I think is worth trying at that price.

botemp · 17/11/2016 13:53

And yes, would still use a stand alone Vit C for mornings.

Pupsiecola · 17/11/2016 13:54

I use Vit C in the mornings and AHA/BHA alternate evenings so this hasn't come up for me. But I would have done acid and then used Vit C after but Bo you say it should be t'other way around?

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 17/11/2016 14:19

Yes bo that how much I use - a small blob. This morning I was simply very tired and while opening the Vit C was staring at a hair thing (and thinking that I mustn't forget to apply that as well) so I think I forgot I was holding the Vit C and not the hair thing Grin

botemp · 17/11/2016 15:29

Well the Ordinary one is slightly not ordinary Grin since it's a not a water based formula and the above routine is for 'ordinary' water based Vit C serums as those are pH dependant (you go from lowest pH to highest). I believe TO advise to use their Vit C after watery solutions which hints that isn't that pH dependant to work but I'd need to read up on it as their own guide doesn't specify it and I doubt pH testing it would be useful.

I'm having a mild breakout. Not sure if it's the Mizon snail or just hormonal Confused

botemp · 17/11/2016 15:50

Shock No blaming the snail when I'm just about to embrace it! I'll accept hormonal snails... possibly... maybe... being delusional helps sometimes

Pupsiecola · 17/11/2016 15:55

I have ordered that Retinol and also a day moisturiser from the same company. I could do with another day moisturiser. Despite saying I wasn't going to change anything until February lol. Read some reviews and I'm very interesting in trying them; prices very reasonable. Will keep you posted...

botemp · 17/11/2016 19:25

Oh I'll be very curious to know how you get on with those Pupsie, and I just saw you can actually choose scented or unscented for the moisturisers which is actually great to see so those moisturisers suddenly got much more interesting. However, does this mean you won't be using those until February and we won't know if they're any good till then the horror?

AuroraPolaris · 17/11/2016 20:18

Wow amazing one can order scented/ unscented versions of something. Is bespoke skincare the way forward? Cake

Pupsiecola · 17/11/2016 20:36

I'll be adding them in now Bo. Very pleased to report that none of my products have irritated my skin Smile. I agree re the unscented option and that's what I went for.

Dr Sam Bunting was just posted a video on medical needling.

hollinhurst84 · 17/11/2016 23:02

Ok it's probably not the snail... Seems to have settled now and I have a spot on my chest Confused so I'm going with hormones
Nearly out of my trilogy cleansing balm and can't afford my favourite ever one (balmology, smells AMAZING) so I'm tempted by the Korean one mentioned

I've reported your other thread as spam btw, which is not allowed on these boards.

botemp · 18/11/2016 07:33

Right, where was I? Ah, yes came to acually also post about the video Pupsie mentioned we're so on trend with our skincare chat

Medical Needling Video

Thought it was interesting she kept on terming it as 'medical' needling but did not outright harp on about it not being a diy thing whilst implying as much and needing to be on a medical routine.

AuroraPolaris · 18/11/2016 08:30

Thnx for the video bo will watch it later.

What was that spam all about??? Didn't have time to check in till now Wink

It's getting very exciting over here with ppl eating to crash into our dermo-party Grin

Pupsiecola · 18/11/2016 09:04

Thanks for posting the link bo. Don't know why I didn't. CH email landed this morning re the Pestle & Mortar Retinol Night Oil. So pricey!! Really can't justify spending that much so hoping the one I've ordered is decent :-)

Pupsiecola · 18/11/2016 09:05

Oops

hollinhurst84 · 18/11/2016 09:11

Ah I was reading that in her blog yesterday!

botemp · 18/11/2016 09:17

Crikey I really am on trend today as I only mentioned the P&M Retinoil yesterday Grin. No wonder the spammers all want a piece of us I'm practically Nostradamus after all.

The spammer was one of those unfortunate MLM victims trying to sell their shite wares for a cosmetic company. They'd set up a sales pitch/come to my FB event thread and in all fairness only asked if we'd ever used any of their shite stuff on here so was only being marginally spammy.

Dr. Sam Bunting's Telegraph video on Niacinamide now up too.

Pupsiecola · 18/11/2016 09:23

I know bo. I read CH's email and thought "that sounds familiar!".

OP posts:
Pupsiecola · 18/11/2016 09:27

I like the idea of having it in an SPF. I'd like more info on which actives you can OD on! Say if you use a dedicated product like the PC niacinamide drops and then also start using a product with it added. Is it best to just stick to the dedicated products...

OP posts:
botemp · 18/11/2016 10:08

Ugh, and CH's rather questionable advice on using Retinols in pregnancy because she was fine with in hers against manufacturer's own instructions in that P&M review reminded me all over again why I no longer venture there. I'd rather be over cautious than under and especially in something so sensitive as pregnancies and more especially other people's pregnancies. Does she not realise that those who miscarry will go over every possible reason why, only to end up blaming themselves unfairly, related to the cause or not, never the misguided advice? Will stop ranting now, and urge others not to participate as CH bashing threads tend to go poof on here and it would be a shame to the previously gathered knowledge on here need to back this stuff up.

Anyhow, on the Niacinamide, it tends to be in a lot of things but hardly ever is the % disclosed, Cerave PM lotion is rumoured to have 5%, the entire Olay line is also rumoured to be in 4-5% range. Naruko provided the % off a few as asked by a Redditor but not on their products/marketing (will have to look up the link). So in that instance the disclosed 10% of PC, TO, etc. is preferred as you are sure you will be getting the most beneficial dose and then some in one product. However, you also risk the possibility of sensitisation (though Niacinamide tends to be a well tolerated ingredient by most) and in the case of Niacinamide most research is of 5% range (mostly funded by Olay's parent company P&G) so more does not necessarily mean better.

Also, we can't really OD on things as the maximum strength will be restricted and we'd be hard pushed to get there with OTC cosmetics.

She has been very favourable of that UltaMD SPF lately, I do wonder if it's any good and how it compares to a Japanese SPF but it's not the easiest thing to get hold off or cheap for that matter.

hollinhurst84 · 18/11/2016 10:23

I'm still searching for a moisturiser I love. Might try the mizon cream as the gel isn't enough for me
Also tempted by one that CH reviewed a while ago as its cheap
