Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

HRT is a different thing, there are plenty of ingredients that can be delivered through the skin (and why people are so nervous about parabens and their ability to be endocrine disruptors), a quick google only brings up circumstantial evidence (like the bath business) and is all toted by those trying to sell you the thing. I'm not against all supplements, doctors prescribe them all the time, it's the whole self-diagnosis and self medicating business that I find troublesome (pretty much the same objections I have to the off prescription Retin-A business) along with all the business interests, etc. By the sound of it magnesium is great topically to reduce inflammation in muscles but I question its effects beyond that.

Can't remember the last time I had a brownie, or where to get a good one these days but I think I'm going to get my grumpy self some dark chocolate tonight.

hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 16:41

Dulcimena- oh no I didn't take it that way at all! Better now, it's bizarrely 12hrs of fever, headache, shivering then it goes. Then I get the 48hrs of bone marrow pain Hmm
When I go to haematology we play "guess the neutrophil count"
Last time consultant said "guess?" And I said "um. Shit?" And he asked why, and I said "LOOOOK AT MY SKIN" Grin
I get a lot worse breakouts when I'm low so I'm almost as accurate as the bloods at predicting now Wink

hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 16:44

Botemp, definitely agree. It's like skincare, things can be so biased and trying to find actual evidence isn't the easiest thing
I went with the bath as its cheap and I figured worst effect would be a nice bath Grin
Much prefer exfoliating and shaving legs in the bath so I like a nice soak to do that preferably wafting around in patchouli and filthy mystical smelling wonderfulness Grin

botemp · 09/11/2016 16:47

Enid, if you want to order the p50 via email and are nervous about the questions, they're really not that scary. They mostly don't want people on topical prescription medicine to use it with p50 as that would be really unwise in certain cases, so it's in your interest to just explain your routine, etc. Just ask and post the questions here if they're confusing and we can all answer them together Grin.

botemp · 09/11/2016 16:58

I think the bath is actually the better choice, hollin. You get the benefit of a nice soak too, the gels/spray seem like a pricier convenience option. I have to sort of compare it to a Vit C serum, great for my face topically where it directly does it thing but it really isn't going to raise the Vit C levels in the rest of my body I suspect.

Actually a nice soak sounds good right about now, don't think it will pull me from the grump state but might just distract momentarily.

hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 17:00

I'm headed off for a nap with the cat. Well I don't have much choice as he's firmly glued to me Wink
Chocolate brownie sounds a good option

AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 17:56

Oh no just realized I finished my (very) dark (99%) chocolate the other day ShockShockShock

Pupsiecola · 09/11/2016 21:23

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't but I am sleeping better and I don't mind too much if it's Placebo effect or not. I was a very restless sleeper before.

Can reccommend gluten free brownies from Costa. For some reason gluten free ones are nicer than ones made with flour. Probably more chocolate in them. Not good for my skin but it was very nice.

Realised I have had the heating on much more gre past two weeks. It's literally freezing here tonight. Also been using very hot water to wash. Neither will be helping my dry t zone and might be the cause. So laying off both as much as I can from now on.

Used Origins clear improvement mask on the chin/jaw oily patch and Pai rosehip regenerate mask on my nose, forehead and tops of cheeks. Probably a terrible idea given the Shea butter and rosehip oil in it but it was the only nourishing thing I had to hand, apart from pure rosehip, and only a sample. Skin feeling a bit parched today. So we'll see what I wake up like.

Realised this thread started off for people looking for anti aging skin solutions and I'm here farting on about my imbalanced skin. Grin But our end goals are the same I suppose.

EnidButton · 09/11/2016 21:41

bo That doesn't sound too bad (p50w questions) I'm going to leave it until I get my basics sorted out but will definitely ask on here if I get confused when I do try it.

Couldn't get the LRP things I went for btw. They had two sizes of the Tolereine ultra but no fluid and no cicaplast other than the B5 one which I don't want. Annoying. Will order online later to pick up at the weekend.

AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 21:51

Agree pupsi if it helps one sleep it fine by me and I don't care why or how Wine

Maybe this is old news but I just realized that iHerb now have a European store with lots of lovely AB (like Mizon) plus all the other lovely stuff they sell and PP is very low.

botemp · 09/11/2016 22:06

By no means am I saying don't use something that's working for you, I was just wondering how it was working and couldn't find any reliable information on it.

I didn't realise iherb has a European store now, last time I looked it was still US based and it seemed too much hassle, is it a different domain name, Aurora?

I've always considered this to be an 'advanced skincare chat' thread, don't think there's any objections to discussing the non anti-ageing stuff, it all often ties in together with actives anyhow. Are you ordering with Boots, Enid? I posted an online only extra £3 off voucher code on the Toleriane range upthread. Have you and Aurora sorted out the decant business for the CosRx BHA btw can't remember, ignore if you have?

My chocolate is finished too! Though I wasn't really in the mood for it anymore after dinner and had some matcha green tea instead, maybe tomorrow. Am consoling myself with p50 instead, also magically uplifting somehow Smile.

AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 22:10

I noticed the new iHerb just a couple of days ago. If you go to the site it'll ask you to chose your country and prices will appear in euros.

Well I ate some dates instead of chocolate...

AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 22:11

enid let me know if you still want that sampleSmile

Pupsiecola · 09/11/2016 22:16

Agree bo. I started this thread asking about specific ingredients it was meant from an advanced skincare perspective. I have temperamental skin too and this thread has been fantastic and I have enjoying reading all the replies and I've learnt loads, so please don't worry enid.

EnidButton · 10/11/2016 02:00

Aurora Oh! I've only just seen your post about the sample, sorry. Thank you very much, that would be incredibly kind of you. Only if it's no bother to you though?

I've learnt a lot from this thread. Still finding my way but feel better armed when reading ingredients etc.

AuroraPolaris · 10/11/2016 09:31

enid it's no trouble at all, just PM me your address. I've got lots of empty little pots lying around and I'm happy to promote lovely skin and happiness in the world Wink

EnidButton · 10/11/2016 14:41

You're a star! Have PMd. (And given myself a heart attack as it looked like I'd posted it to here. ShockGrin Very half asleep today.)

Pupsiecola · 10/11/2016 19:32

Anyone watch Dr Sam Bunting's video on Mode Eastern beauty? Toleriane cleanser gets a mention. She also says to avoid facial waxing if using retinoids; assume that doesn't apply to brows?

Also, does anyone use castor oil for lashes and brows? My understanding is that there's no scientific proof it works but plenty are sure it does...

OP posts:
botemp · 10/11/2016 19:44

I wouldn't be waxing brows to begin with, it really weakens the skin there only to make it sag long term. I have yet to see the latest video but saw the last one, thought it was interesting that she has a lot of ME clientele though it makes a lot of sense, just never really thought about it but I assume most of Harley Street is populated by a very diverse international audience. When were the Telegraph videos again, Thursday?

I've looked into the castor oil in the past and decided against it as some had horrendous results (losing all their lashes) and most evidence there is comes down to that the massaging and conditioning helps improve it, not so much the oil itself and the weight of the product also makes it appear thicker without being so. Some of those growth serums do work but only while you use it so it's kind of an expensive hobby. The Chantecaille mascara with its ridiculous price tag, but I buy it again and again without fail with peptides does make my lashes grow longer and fuller. It's also the best mascara EVER in my very humble opinion, but I tend not to harp on about it since people look at me funny when I mention the price Blush.

I've also realised I could be offering P50W decants for anyone interested but you may have to wait a week or so as I'm nearing the end of my bottle and I'd like the next one in to be in the house before giving it all away.

crystalgall · 10/11/2016 20:09

Hello all. I've been reading this thread with interest though it's all a bit technical and beyond me!
I'm very much on entry level with skincare.
Anyway I posted a very boring thread asking abou products with key ingredients in them and got zero replies until some kind soul told me to have a look on here.

I'm going to repost my OP and maybe someone can give me a nudge in the right direction.

*Today 17:10 crystalgall

Ok so after reading many threads on here and being a total sheep I'm trying to buy products which have actual ingredients that do something.

I have a basic cleanser (cetaphil)
I use nip and fan glycolic pads 3x a week
Alternate between cerave night cream which has niacinamide and hyaluronic acid and Nivea q10 plus which has creatine and coenzyme q10. Are these effective ingredients?

Day cream is Nivea q10 plus because I like it on my sensitive skin. Also creatine and coenzyme q10 whatever that is

Serum is nivea q10
Which has hyaluronic acid and sometimes the no7 one though i have no idea what's in it.

What else do I neeeeed?

I think I need another serum and something with retinol or retin-a?
Also a better night cream maybe?

I'm on a budget so nothing too mad.

Any skincare nerds out there who can help?*

yongnian · 10/11/2016 20:17

Waves at crystalgall someone more expert than me will be along soon!!
bo auora any thoughts on muji's skincare offerings...? Went on there to look for some unbleached cotton pads...

botemp · 10/11/2016 20:27

I like their sensitive cleansing oil but they don't sell it here Sad. The sensitive toner high moist and sensitive sheet masks are also supposed to be good.

Also before I forget, was talking about the Benton steam cream on the Asian Beauty thread but think it would also be good for the person (sorry forgot who now) who had the bad reaction to Retin-A as it it's a very clean ingredients list, sunflower oil, urea, snail in there but no silicones. Also pretty cheap Grin.

crystal, it's very hard to advise as you've told us what you use but I have no idea what your skin is like, sensitivities, issues, and skincare goals are.

AuroraPolaris · 10/11/2016 20:57

enid one sample will make its way to you in the next couple of days...

I actually use castor oil as mentioned. I started cause my brow s had been flaky (skin) for ages and then read it helps lashes grow. I must say I have "good" lashes anyway. Medium length but naturally curled, but after a few months of on-off use I did see here and there a pretty long lash, which creates an effect of overall longer lashes. So it works but it takes time to see results. I don't do it regularly anymore - I forget about it for a while and then do it a few times a month but I still see longer lashes pop up. Those lash serums scare me though, do I would not use them Shock

AuroraPolaris · 10/11/2016 20:59

I also wouldn't wax face at all. Believe me - you don't want to pull your skin in any way, direction or form!!!! Same for applying products and massage - firmly but gently without pulling the skin too much. It'll pay off as you grow older mature Grin
