Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

Looks great actually, thanks enid, I'll give the porridge lavender thing a go tonight. Smile

AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 09:15

Thanks for the magnesium advice. I'll look up the spray in our version of H&B.

Oat baths are great - did it when kids had chicken pox...

enid if you mean the aspirin mask I referred to - I just took an aspirin (the ones that are not coated), crushed it, added honey and some Clarins Lotus oil. Maybe also yogurt? Can't remember as it was 3-4 years ago when I got a lot of weird spots from EL ANR Angry

bo my weakness is croissant aux amandes, the "real" ones you can only get in Paris . That is my sugar sin when I go to Paris, cause I really don't eat/ not allowed any sugar.

Oh why did you have to mention that Simon Cowell thing??? DH really likes that Citrus shower gel... Don't know if anyone knows the Weleda Chestnut Toning bath? I first got is as a present after I gave birth. It's really invigorating and can help you pick yourself up if you are feeling poorly.

Can't find that Niuer video at the moment. I stumbled upon it when I was conducting my Taiwanese shopping obsessing research. It wasn't on youtube, but rather a video on someone's blog, where she recorded one of his talks/ demos. Basically, you have to pat every single product x200. No wonder he has a 3 hour PM routine! I'll look for it again later.

AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 09:19

Oh, and since we have been discussing actives. Something I already mentioned on the AB thread but worth repeating.
Have a look at Fifty Shades of Snail (AB blog). She has lately written two very clear and informative posts about how/ why use actives in your routine

(and of course hide your credit card before you visit that site Grin).

botemp · 09/11/2016 09:26

Our H&B don't have it Aurora, but unlimited health in the
van Ostadestraat do (not sure about in shop, but they definitely have it online, I'd looked up the Vitamin D one earlier in the thread).

The BHA in aspirin is different to salicylic acid, it only works temporarily and is anti-inflammatory. I wouldn't use it on the regular but in an emergency it can help out as it's fast acting.

Well it's the bath milk not the shower gel so you can rest easy knowing DH is not Simon Cowell Wink, and I only mentioned it so I can share that bit of misery with like minded individuals Grin.

AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 09:37

Thanks bo I'll look it up. I've been sleeping soooo badly!

Just to make sure - be warned, I did mention the aspirin mask as an emergency. I don't think it's good on a regular basis, but it did make a very big difference overnight.

AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 10:55

I see the magnesium spray and gel (which I have) are the same thing. So you ladies that claim it has helped sleep - how/ when/ where have you used it?

Pupsiecola · 09/11/2016 12:57

I use it on my forearms just before bed.

OP posts:
hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 13:00

I use it on my legs - behind knees usually and before bed

Dulcimena · 09/11/2016 13:05

I've never heard of magnesium for this before. Is it a cumulative effect or can you use it for one-off sleepless nights? How quickly does it work? I have 2-3 nights every month when I cannot sleep for toffee, would be thrilled to find a solution.

hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 13:09

I've used it as an one off. If I use magnesium flakes/Epsom salts in my bath I use a hefty amount (about 500g) and get straight out the bath into bed and I'm gone GrinGrin

botemp · 09/11/2016 13:11

Is the magnesium only for sleep and can it actually be absorbed through the skin? Apologies, I'm somewhat of the opinion that unless anyone is truly deficient, most vitamins (D being the exception) and supplements are generally not all that beneficial and always find it really difficult to find some objective reading on these things.

hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 13:15

I'm not sure is my honest answer. I've heard a lot of people are deficient in it, something to do with the way food is produced etc etc but I haven't read around it much
I tried ZMA - which is zinc, B6 and magnesium and meant to help deeper sleep and it really helped but I break out from B6 Sad
I started using the magnesium flakes in the bath for muscle soreness after workouts but noticed the sleep thing alongside. A normal bath doesn't have the same effect, or any other bath products. It's like an instant "knocked out" type feeling

Dulcimena · 09/11/2016 13:16

That sounds amazing... Flakes like this?. Which gel/spray do you use? The Better You brand has been mentioned, is it this spray you're all using? Sorry, so many qs!

hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 13:18

That's the spray I use, flakes I get from TK Maxx or Amazon as cheaper
I know the flakes are brilliant for dry itchy skin too

Dulcimena · 09/11/2016 13:21

Very interesting, thanks for the tip :)

botemp · 09/11/2016 13:28

Iirc I believe the epsom salt benefits was never scientifically backed up either (though I have no doubt it helps on a surface level wrt inflammation, it's the skin penetration and delivery of nutrients that I question in all this).

Can't get to that link somehow, need to log in, but regardless as much as I appreciate natural/alternative medicine, it's not my go to place for properly peer reviewed scientific studies. Sorry, I'm being a grumpy thing today, the weather sucks and the news cycle doesn't seem to be much better, I'm taking things out on magnesium sprays...

hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 13:46

Ah don't worry, I've had no sleep so am mainlining caffeine Grin
My patience is thin

Dulcimena · 09/11/2016 13:52

I've had no sleep so am mainlining caffeine

LOL I was hoping that magnesium was an alternative to that! Wink

EnidButton · 09/11/2016 14:14

I think everyone is grumpy today. 😔 I have been told to take magnesium by a GP. I'm not deficient but they believe it would be beneficial. I had improvement on some things none skin related when I started taking it so I'm carrying on.

I'm going to buy a brownie from Costa now. That's definitely not good for skin but today needs brownies. Grin

EnidButton · 09/11/2016 14:31

Aurora I meant the P50 (w) toner. I've tried the aspirin masks in the past too, minus the honey, not sure they did much for me but they didn't make anything worse. Worth a try for anyone else reading though.

hollinhurst84 · 09/11/2016 15:22

Ah the no sleep was due to meds. I inject myself once a week and I get a fever and flu symptoms. Joy!

Dulcimena · 09/11/2016 15:53

I'm sorry hollin, I was just being silly. Hope you're feeling ok Flowers

Pupsiecola · 09/11/2016 16:03

I switched from HRT patches to gels (rubbed on skin inside thighs every night) bo so I assume the delivery method is clinically possible?!

Grumpy here too. Three hours' sleep (stressed about one of my teens atm).

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 09/11/2016 16:16

Super grumpy here too today AngryAngryAngry

Re the P50 they don't sell it here via the net either.

I actually passed by a place that was selling the Magnesium oil/ gel/ pills today and asked for info. They said the research that "proved" it can be absorbed by skin was based on taking a 20 min bath and not on smearing a gel or "oil". No idea if this is true as I haven't had time to delve into this.
I will try the gel tonight before bed as up to now I've only used it before exercise. I'll need all the help I can get tonight.

By the way the supplements I take were recommended to me by a kinesiologist who helped me a lot with my health following an accident. So I stick to what she said Wink
