Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

Oo sorry to derail slightly but what is the sizing like on Sorel? Have been lusting after various of their boots for ages...

AuroraPolaris · 08/11/2016 21:05

Oh yeah and I can offer a Cosrx BHA sample. Good idea! Biscuit

Wellhellothere1 · 08/11/2016 21:10

Thank you for the information Botemp. Very useful! I hear what you're saying about SPF though I kind of work in a bunker- I work in a hospital and the area I work in (ICU) had no windows Smile However I work part time so I really need to make sure I wear some on my days off. I feel my skin can't breathe with it in though....

EnidButton · 08/11/2016 21:20

I think urea can be absorbed into the kidneys at higher levels. My Eucerin body lotion comes with a warning against anyone with kidney issues using it. So definitely not one I'd use on a 5 year old.

AuroraPolaris · 08/11/2016 21:28

Just had a look at the boots - mine are 38 and 2/3, UK 5.5. Can't remember why I got that size and not 39 which is what I usually get??? Maybe that's what they had? This was 4-5 years ago I think. They still look great, by the way as the quality is so good.
I would say it's true to size and that is my actual size, though as I have wide feet and I like a bit of room so I usually buy 39... and who makes 2/3 numbers anyway ;)

yongnian · 08/11/2016 21:28

Oo I didn't know that enid what % is your eucerin then? I've never noticed similar on my Flexitol stuff - and it's often used with diabetic foot probs Confused

yongnian · 08/11/2016 21:31

Oh thanks aurora that's perfect as I'm theoretically a 5 but more like a 5.5 in some styles and fittings and so also often end up in 39. For a winter boot I'd want the extra room for thick socks etc.
My trusty Merrill Tibet have finally split (sob) and am searching for a worthy replacement. The sorel do look great.

yongnian · 08/11/2016 21:31

wiltingfast · 08/11/2016 21:34

Thanks for the tips everyone. Will do some googling. She's in the pool a lot too, probably not helping.

An aveeno cream helped me a lot in the past, might check them out too. Plus some gentler wash also. Put neutrogena on her tonight, might help a bit. She was impressed anyway!

Bo it was cx soothing cream. Think there is an anti aging version that is €€€

wiltingfast · 08/11/2016 21:39

That's funny Enid, I was looking at the urea one in the chemist and I could not find any warning not to use it on children, but was uneasy. That was a eucerin one. Was tempted by one with 12%omega snd licorice which said it was suitable for children but then decided I'd ask you lot first Grin

botemp · 08/11/2016 21:43

I think it depends on your SPF, Dulci the Japanese ones usually have a high % of alcohol to help penetrate them into the skin effectively so the oils shouldn't be an issue I think but if you want to err on safety I'd mix the oil in with the moisturiser.

I can't remember what the P50 prices are here, but I think they're slightly cheaper than the UK. I do agree with Aurora that the initial investment may feel high (and I suggest getting the travel size first if unsure how well you'll react to it and most people are started on the W to begin with anyhow) but it's really frugal in use and lasts forever. Some use it without cotton pads to stretch it even further.

I'm no use with the sizing, yongnian, the UK/US sizing in EU always confuses me but I think for US sizing it comes in smaller than normal, I still can't decide if I want to go fugly and utilitarian or just go all out with the addition of fur and revel in the hideousness of it all. I'm desperately trying to ignore the little voice in the back of my mind trying to convince me those exceptionally high heeled and decidedly not fugly boots with a profile sole make for perfect snow shoes Hmm.

wellhellothere1 you need to try a different sunscreen, the Biore Watery Essence will probably suit you.

EnidButton · 08/11/2016 21:45

10%. It's this one m.boots.com/h5/cat_hub?unCountry=uk&path=%2Fen%2FEucerin-Dry-Skin-Intensive-Lotion-10-w-w-Cutaneous-Emulsion-Urea-250ml_6771%2F%3Faffwin%26awc%3D2041_1470921694_2c584dbebc781b66587249c704b1bed3

I'm not actually sure why. Kidneys make urea so I was assuming it absorbed a bit and could overload the system of you have kidney issues but I don't know really. Going to google as I'm curious now.

bo Right added the lrp fluid to the list. Tolereine cleanser too do you think? Getting the cicaplast for dry nose and assuming it'll be 3 for 2.

I'm actually tempted by P50w. I'm a bloody marketers dream. If I had normal skin I'd buy the lot! But it had salicylic in it doesn't it? So I'll get a grip and back away from it. Grin

Dulcimena · 08/11/2016 21:49

Enid the W doesn't have salicylic, if that helps?

Wellhellothere1 · 08/11/2016 21:53

Bo, I already use that SPF! Still desperate to remove it at the end of the day though. Maybe they're all like that?

EnidButton · 08/11/2016 21:55

Wilting Aveeno is a good one to try I would say. They do bath and shower stuff as well. Generally things containing oats are good. You could try filling a muslin cloth with oats, finer ones would work better, maybe a bit of dried lavender, tie it and hang it from the tap whilst it runs. (Sorry if that's already been suggested. Terrible memory today.)

I don't think I'd use liquorice. I know when ingested liquorice can cause blood pressure to raise and although I doubt it'd be absorbed through the skin, when it comes to little people I'd err on the side of caution. Although if it's marketed towards children it's probably OK. Did you ask a pharmacist for advice? They're very good at that sort of thing. Better than GP's. Does she drink a lot of water?

botemp · 08/11/2016 22:02

Nope, the W and V only contain the non exfoliating salt form of salicylic in a tiny amount, Enid. So unless you're properly allergic to aspirin I think it should be ok.

wilting, do you give DD Vitamin D? May also be worth trying as it makes a difference for some.

I think you need to get a silicone free one then, Wellhellothere1 it's the only thing I can think of that causes that sweaty locked up feeling besides traditional occlusives. Do you have issues with silicones normally?

AuroraPolaris · 08/11/2016 22:02

wellhello I agree with bo (as usual) and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by Japanese SPF. I have a very hard time finding SPF that does not break me out and was very pleased by the Anessa.

Yeah, those boots are definitely in the fugly department, but then if (hopefully) we get real snow and ice we won't care so much... And please don't wear heels when it's icy. Imagine you take s tumble and fall face down into the snow - your skin will not thank you!!!! Grin

Pupsiecola · 08/11/2016 22:05

I had read you can't get the P50 online. I'm 2 hours from London. DH is in Seattle currently and I guess could get me some. But he'd be so shocked at the price lol I don't think I'll ask him!

When layering do you apply oil before moisturiser?

OP posts:
botemp · 08/11/2016 22:06

Maybe the shock of icy cold water will shock my pores and close them up indefinitely Grin

Can't remember now, is the Anessa silicone free?

AuroraPolaris · 08/11/2016 22:08

Yeah I apply oil before moisturizer and before overnight mask. Maybe it doesn't make sense but it works for me.

You can tell your DH my DH came back from Taiwan last month with 30 sheet masks Grin

botemp · 08/11/2016 22:14

I usually do moisturiser then oil, there's something about no active ingredients being able to penetrate through oil but I can't remember if that's a myth that's been debunked now or if that's actually the case. Anyhow since my moisturisers rarely contain a lot of active ingredients it doesn't really matter too much.

P50 is pricier in the US, and he'd still need to go somewhere to buy it and they tend to ask about your routine and officially have to assess your skin to be able to sell it to you, though I doubt they really adhere to that. Whatever you do, don't buy the 1970's version, it has phenol in it (not legal here) and all it does is make it sting though other people will have you convinced it's so much better than the non phenol version. Since most of us are of the delicate skin persuasion I really wouldn't be inviting in possible irritation from that.

botemp · 08/11/2016 22:17

Just looked it up, it's $70 without sales tax Shock.

AuroraPolaris · 08/11/2016 22:17

No the Anessa is not silicone free but it's way down the INCI list. I usually react to stuff with silicone and this was fine also in the sense that you really don't feel you are "wearing" SPF 50.
And as some of you might remember from the AB thread it was impossible to find something that was free of all the evils. I read so many INCI lists on Ratzilla I though I would go mad.....

Oh another thing I though about earlier today re acne is supplements. Maybe worthwhile taking Omega 3 and Vit C 1000mg a day each for a couple of months and see if it makes a diferente?

Dulcimena · 08/11/2016 22:19

Good point Bo. In truth I gave up on Asian sunscreens a while back because the ones I'd tried were loaded with alcohol (drying) and silicones (irritating).

With the p50 I feel that so much product is wasted on the cotton pad. I read some people pat it on direct from palms, have you tried that? Worth trying, would you think? I'd worry about uneven application, but it bugs me to waste even a drop!

AuroraPolaris · 08/11/2016 22:20

Well pupsi I think you have no choice and will have to travel directly to BR in Paris to get the P50 Grin
