Am back from a most lovely MU with most thoughtful Crepies - many thanks Smile
But DS and DH have lined up a match on Sky Sports and DD is in the kitchen with her History tutor.... Will be relegated to the bedroom. Again.

And no Selasi to drool over Sad

hattymattie · 26/10/2016 20:02

Why did I think Andrew was called Adam???

hattymattie · 26/10/2016 21:03

Right ... tomorrow I'm making a Victoria Sandwich.

bigTillyMint · 26/10/2016 21:11

Well Candice deserved to win despite her dodgy lippy choices and irritating pouting.

Janes hair Shock

And I caught sight of Selasi in the background Sad

GiddyGiddyGoat · 26/10/2016 21:19

I'm very pleased for Candace - she seems a lovely combination of feisty and kind. She really deserved it and is young enough to really do something with it if she chooses.

Very Envy of MU - always love a Crepey piss up midweek drink. Glad you had a lovely time.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 26/10/2016 21:19

Oh and Candace owns a lovely pug - so she must be a goo dun in my book...

magimedi · 26/10/2016 21:25

Flowers to Lalsy for the link to that cookbook - I will be an MI's mother size 22 at the end of that.

I am very cross that Candace won - never warmed to her,

(My polite way of saying how very much I did not like her!)

Nooooo Rudy. Baking is a marvellous thing!

bigTillyMint · 26/10/2016 21:39

Sadly missed Selasi. I bet he give she best hugs Smile

bigTillyMint · 26/10/2016 21:39

He gives!

herbaceous · 26/10/2016 21:55

Hello my most excellent crepeys.

Matters arising:

Approved of candice - I warmed to her, after realising her pouting was involuntary

Pants - either have to be below or considerably above c section overhang. And attendant gut that is getting ever larger. Fancy some bright pink sloggis a la GGG, but then she is my style icon.

Day - utterly exhausting. Great to see s many friends and family for dad's celebration, but he barely knew what was going on. New carer is not getting on with mum at all, and discussions revealed the total breakdown in relationship between my parents. Mum doesn't even bother talking to dad any more. So he doesn't speak either. I suspect mum is depressed. What can one do about this?

Strange Cousin brought puppy with him. DS, and other young, spent a long time playing with said hound in the garden,,but apparently play got a little boisterous and DS was pinned to the ground being bitten on the head by dog. Strange Cousin was nearby, pandering to dog. DS has holes in his clothes from hound teeth.

I returned with an entire side of salmon, huge bowl of rice salad, Greek salad and fruit salad. Thanks to serious over ordering from waitrose catering! Fortunately going on a kiddy picnic tomorrow, so it will come in handy. Make a change from tesco cocktail sausages.

IDismyname · 26/10/2016 22:22

Herb -Sorry to hear re your parents and carer situation. Is it possible to have a word with your Mums GP? I'm not sure what relationship you have with your DM, but would a few days away with her be possible? Try and get her to talk to you. If the GP has had a heads up from you, then she can at least ask your DM the question.

My DM is running on empty. Still smiling and impeccably turned out. Full make up. The works.

I, meanwhile, struggle to look half normal. DH suggested I put some make up on before we went out last weekend. "I'm wearing it already" I growled back. I must look awful if he's noticing.

Thank you Lalsy for the recipe link. Yes to large pink pants and gin and tonics on the cover. It's a lovely consolation after the final Bake Off.

CointreauVersial · 26/10/2016 22:34

GBBO was great, wasn't it? All inhabitants of Chateau Cointreau are firm Candice fans, so we were cheering.

Good to hear that various ailing DSs are continuing to improve.

My goodness, GGG, those are some big pants. I'm a boy-short girl, meself. Must be matching bra and pants - you never know when you'll be knocked down by a bus, and all that. DH is still resolutely a comfy enormo-boxers man - he has a couple of pairs you could read the newspaper through they are so threadbare.

Herbs - Sad about your DPs, but then it's hardly surprising that there is a gulf between them under the circumstances. I don't know what to suggest....

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/10/2016 22:57

I have never, in my life, worn matching bra and pants.

DD2 is apparently dog walking tomorrow for DH's friend. She doesn't have a great deal of familiarity with dogs...

Cremolafoam · 26/10/2016 23:41

Have caught up with Bake Off after running round trying to enclose cat which has been vomming and diarrhoea-ing all over the house. Ghastly. Been at the Reindeer food, we think. Oh the hazards of country life.

Well done Candace on the little rhubarb and strawberry tarts and curiously matching lippy. A triumph! Although did the sausage rolls all not look enormous?

Cocoa, your description of your perfectly turned out dm really resonated with me. Dsis and I were both commenting on how immaculate their house is. I mean pristine. Everything just so. She does absolutely everything and will not permit help in any form. It's quite exhausting.
Haloween Sad
I can only aspire to matching underwear. Or matching socks for that matter.

Cremolafoam · 26/10/2016 23:53

Sorry Herbs, meant to say, I wonder if your mum would go to the doctor with you.or as some wise Crepeys mentioned up thread, email her GP in advance of a visit. I know how difficult the practicality of all that might be. We have been trying to get DM to Specsavers to get her hearing sorted for over 5 years. She must be quite deaf on one side now, but is in complete denial about it.
It's a very sensitive situation for you.Flowers
Found this on a website:
Patient confidentiality: essentially that means that a doctor can’t give you information about a patient. However, they can accept information. The General Medical Council are responsible for regulating doctors in the UK. Their guidance clearly states that GPs have to listen to the concerns of people close to the patient. If you are giving the doctor information about a family member that is to do with their health, then the doctor should actually take that on board and should listen to you. Some doctors are still quite wary about this, so what can be helpful is to keep a bit of a diary of symptoms and then either send that by email or by letter to the doctor. That way there is no scope for anyone to say that the doctor gave you any information. What we do say to people is if a doctor really isn’t receptive it might be a good idea to speak to another doctor.

bigTillyMint · 27/10/2016 06:43

Herbs, glad the party went well (though hope mini-Herbs wasn't actually properly bitten by the dogShock) but sorry to hear of the situation with your DParents. Advice above is good.

I am in awe of the immaculately turned out elderly DM's with immaculate houses.

IDismyname · 27/10/2016 06:43

Yes, Herbs drop your DMs GP a line. It worked a treat in my case. No actual acknowledgement, but I know the message got through because of how Dms account of how the appointment went. I feel better that I know they're actually looking out for her, now.
I can't see that you have anything to lose.

Ha ha Crem at all these perfectly turned out women!
Impeccable outfit? Tick
Impeccable make up? Tick
These are all the things you can control...

Meanwhile, I shuffle round with (certainly) unmatching underwear, and a longing for large pink Sloggi pants and velour housecoats. I think it's an underlying need to just shut myself away from all the sh*te.

addle · 27/10/2016 06:58

Herbs I also agree with dropping your DM's GP an email. I think they are better now at recognising depression in older people than they used to be.

Underwear - I found a make of bra in TK Maxx that I like called Silent Assembly after trying everything M&S has ever done, going to that shop whatever it's called (Bravissimo?) etc etc and there isn't even v much norkage. it's just the ageing effect. Pants I'm still on the search for. Too much of me for boy shorts but agree with whoever complained about Brazilians and it means they quickly look vile off as well. Will have a look at Sloggi (used to get them for my MIL)

Going down with rubbish cold. Eyes, teeth, neck, head all over really hurts

DS is so bored by half term (and nervous about university application I think) that he's prepared to do some cooking. Poor old thing. Comes of being a curmudgeon and not at all prepared to contact friends.

addle · 27/10/2016 06:58

ps WAF thank you! re journalling. Makes sense. I'm going to look out NG.

hattymattie · 27/10/2016 08:10

Addle - your DS and mine should get together - I'm getting lots of cakes at the moment, although he is inspired by Bake Off. Sorry about cold - I hate how they move around to attack different regions after the initial cold has gone. I currently have popping ears.

Herbs - so sad about the parents but so difficult for them. I'm another with a perfectly turned out DM who won't accept any help although she badly needs it. Hope DS's head isn't punctured.

Have no matching bras and knickers and never have had - the ambulance team would be very shocked I suspect. Have got a posh Primadonna bra though Smile

Crem - hope your head and the cat's nether regions are a little better.

I did toy with getting matching pants to go with my racy, red, Curvy Kate bra, but thought DH would just have looked frightened. And I'm not that bothered what the paramedics think if I get run over.

bigTillyMint · 27/10/2016 09:19

No Rudy, DS not 16 till March - must be frustrating for you. How is he doing?

I have another gorgeous dentist appointment later, and then a quiet day lined up!
