Must try to avoid a thread switch on a Friday night Grin

blast it. after rather a late night was congratulating self on doing some washing up and putting chicken in oven before going off to watch relaxing film from sofa with c of t ... came back to kitchen at end of film and realised had failed to move said chicken from worktop into actual oven. may be more tired than had realised

magimedi · 23/10/2016 17:35

Thanks for asking, CV. The labyrynthitis is much better than it was, but not completely gone yet. Still not OK to drive & am generally taking it easy.

I realise it's not life threatening but when it was bad last week I don't think I have ever had anything quite as nasty in my whole life. Having little or no sense of balance is so disturbing & frightening.

motherinferior · 23/10/2016 17:35

I'm relieved to realise I'm not the only person who does that, Addle.

hattymattie · 23/10/2016 17:40

Gosh Stropps - what a very courageous woman you are. I think I would have crumbledWineFlowers

Rudy - very wise words from MM, do not get dragged down.

Monty - sorry your DH is low Cake

MM - well done on Turkish holiday, I wish we could get ourselves organised. The trouble is we never know who is coming and when so everything is last minute.

Mrs S - I have been known to stomp off in shops myself.

Very quiet day here, except for the exciting trip to buy a tumble drier. I have also been to yoga and feel quite zen. My right shoulder though always seems to be raised though stress/tension a bit in the manner of a hunchback.

Rosebag · 23/10/2016 17:48

stropps hugs...what a heart wrenching back story. Rudy I think stropps, monty and other Crepeys have infinitely more wisdom in the alchoholic dept than me. I rarely drink as it gives me nasty symptoms. But I was married to a different kind of addict in a different life and this I know...no one changes unless they want to and the incentive of losing a spouse or partner or best friend isn't generally enough. And we all collude....sometimes it's the only way to carry on but eventually I got the strength to walk out ( with an 18 month old baby) . I made a new life for myself. He is still an addict.

Anyway Rudy meanwhile, are you having a nice time visiting with DS?

tilly it must be tedious waiting for the discharge papers to be finalised for DS. Nothing gets done quickly at weekends on a ward. I am hoping however that DS's HR and BS have stabilised? Fingers crossed.

monty Flowers have texted you

MI not a lot of advice. I live with one of those too. Oddly, I do find text messages sometimes work in this respect. Gives him time to digest what you've said. I find saying (shouting in my case) it directly has him diving in defensively before I've even drawn breath for the second sentence. Flowers

Cv Id bet you look great in midi length. Don't listen to your lot. I unfortunately just look frum!

I am cosied up back at the flat after the cinema, a walk on the prom and very late leisurely lunch.
Fish and chips and mushy peas lunch - 1
Sticky toffee pud and vanilla ice cream - 1

bigTillyMint · 23/10/2016 17:52

MrsSGrin at your DH never going away!

Addle, Grin - senior moment!

MM my friend had something that affected her balance for months - was awful. Don't know if they ever got to the bottom of it. Horrible.

I have had a G&T while preparing dinner Smile

Can anyone else join us on Wed - in my ends - MrsS. surely you can slope off and join us? Wink

motherinferior · 23/10/2016 17:55

RoseFlowers

To be fair to poor old DP he does listen (eventually) and try (I splurged at him on the phone when he rang). I am just very irritable as well at the moment Blush.

I am going to have wine and poppadums. Ground a few hundred words onto the page, dammit. That's 2,000 over the weekend. Slowly advancing towards the finale...

motherinferior · 23/10/2016 17:55

I expect I might saunter down that wayWink

Collymollypuff · 23/10/2016 17:57

I'd love to come, BTM! Looking forward to it.

bigTillyMint · 23/10/2016 18:23

Brill! See that - an 80's exclamation - have been listening to Absolute 80's whilst cooking!

Lalsy · 23/10/2016 19:05

It's so good you have kept going, MI, throughout everything.

MM, I had anaemia after ds was born and felt very dizzy for a while. Made me feel horribly vulnerable - I remember clinging to a post at a busy road crossing looking longingly at the other side, thinking I just can't do it, I am too scared, I could kill us both. My mother has something like this and the meds have really worked for her - hope they do for you.

Not for the first time, the thread is flooded with strength and wisdom.

herbaceous · 23/10/2016 19:13

Crepuscules.

Rather drunk, after hosting my favourite NCT couple, plus resultant children, for lunch today. 'beer up butt' chicken, coated in lovely spices. Plus slaw, and spicy fries. Plus ice ream and chococoalte. And wine.

No direct experiene of alcoholism ( says, trying to type while pissed) but experience of Oxford Street's John Lewis and its generally positive attitude towards Style. I was in homeward there, sporting a pleating skirt, and a quite obviously Screaming Queen came up to me to admire my skirt.

NUFC69 · 23/10/2016 20:04

Sorry I have been AWOL, I don't know where the last month has gone since we came back from the US. I have read this thread, but not the end of the last one, so I am sure I have missed lots. BTM, sorry to hear that DS has been really poorly (not sure what is wrong), but best wishes to you both. CV, what a nasty experience for your DS.

It seems that most Crepeys are still dealing with APs, bereavement and recalcitrant DC - my thoughts are with you all.

Since our return we have had DGC for a short sleepover, had the plasterer in doing the kitchen, the electrician has visited several times attempting to sort out what is causing the fuses to blow intermittently, and the chap who is going to lay a new floor for us called (he discovered that a mouse had chewed a hole in the dishwasher outlet pipe). Oh, and we have painted the kitchen, but not the utility room.

We have had a family reunion in Wakefield with my cousins, a night in Lancaster en route to Grangeover Sands for a meet up with DH's cousin, brother and their wives; oh, and been to stay with our friend in Leicestershire. We have booked a caravan up the coast from tomorrow for four nights and we are taking the DGC for a 'holiday' - probably not one for us!

And in the midst of all this, somebody went into the back of DD's car when she was driving on to a dual carriageway, and she and her two DC ended up in A&E, but fortunately they were all ok.

I know that the wifi is non existent where we are going, so I hope I see you all on the other side.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 23/10/2016 20:25

I want that on a T shirt, Herbs Grin

I was in homeward there, sporting a pleating skirt,

Such good advice today from all Crepeys, especially wise woman Stropps.

It's definitely half term here. Dd having pot noodle for supper in front of X Factor.....

herbaceous · 23/10/2016 20:30

Haha!

Obvs, I was in 'homewares'. Sporting a 'pleated' skirt. Though those two words v hard to type.

Lalsy · 23/10/2016 21:03

Hello NU, you've been busy! Have a good trip - I won't say holiday. Thank goodness everyone was OK after the prang

Stropperella · 23/10/2016 21:11

I still have a midi pleated skirt from the last time they were in fashion. Maybe I should dig it out again. Smile

Herbs, you sound as though you have had a splendid day. Grin

Crepeys, you are too kind. No, really you are. I should have been a lot braver and left h1 at the 5-year mark, before I had dd, instead of allowing myself to be seduced by the "No, really, I have changed" bollocks that he came out with when I threatened to leave back then.

NU, good to see you.

Monty speaks the truth about alcoholism.

My God, I'm glad it's half-term.

Lalsy · 23/10/2016 21:18

Rose, Flowers. It must be so, so hard to see these things for what they are - you and Stropps have articulated it so well.

I want some pix of these midi pleated skirts! Bet you can both carry them off. I would make one look like the ruff around the Christmas pudding.

Rosebag · 23/10/2016 21:35

Stropps I stuck it for 10 years...

Stropperella · 23/10/2016 21:42

Yeah, Rose, me too. Well, we gave them all the chances, right?

Stropperella · 23/10/2016 22:10

Dd has announced she is on her way home "to do course work". Wish me luck.

IDismyname · 23/10/2016 22:27

Stropps R.E.S.P.E.C.T + Flowers

I too, made mincemeat today. Actually it was Nigellas 'Quincemeat'. First time I've ever made stuff like that, although I make a lot of jam, jellies and pickles.

I had the urge to cook, so as well as the above, I produced 4 tea cakes,(well, why not double the recipe?), a venison rage for supper tomorrow, and a roast and pudding tonight.

This afternoon was spent visiting 2 dementia nursing homes with DM. One, a modern but dark place built about 5 years ago with huge, huge rooms. All unfurnished apart from a bed. We were left wondering quite how we'd fill it. DF is probably only going to be there for a few months.

Second place was privately owned, and had a much better atmosphere. I'm not surprised really, as they want £250 a day. Yup. You read that right. It has a couple of dementia patients who were definitely younger than 60. So sad.

Meanwhile DF getting more and more institutionalised in hospital. He was able to walk and go to the loo 10 days ago. Now I don't think he can do either. DM got hold of his OT assessment notes. Staff are saying he's aggressive. Broke DMs heart. Sad

IDismyname · 23/10/2016 22:30

No, I've not made a venison rage. Just a venison ragu.

A venison rage is when a deer is very VERY cross with you.

Or maybe I should give up trying to impress you all and call it bolognaise.

CointreauVersial · 23/10/2016 22:33

But Strops and Rose.....if you'd left after five years you wouldn't have your PFBs. The silver lining in your clouds, surely?

DS has gone ice-skating. Hmm

CointreauVersial · 23/10/2016 22:34

Grin at furious deer.
