M&S have really lost it imo...

not that they ever really had it!

I was in there this morning, there was not one thing I would even have considered trying on!

And the kids clothes - OMG - they fell into two categories, those that would look good if you are over 70 and those that would make your dd look like a tiny prostitute!!

Very odd.

Or New Look the best shop on the high street, well if you are above a size 14 other wise i would say top Shop!

EnidLloydFoxe · 05/02/2007 14:44

top shop has lost it a bit this season

oasis and primark the best IM (very worthless) O

CountessDracula · 05/02/2007 14:45

topshop and river island fab atm imo

(topshop DO do size 16 by the way)

Agree re primark though they have some appalling stuff too!

I love top shop but at the moment they are only catering for those who can wear leggings the rest of us can all get stuffed!

Have just bought a gorgeous carigan and two dresses in primark for £28 on a budget you just can't beat that!

EnidLloydFoxe · 05/02/2007 14:46

yes you have to search in primark

but have a black and white print top from there which everyone says is lovely - cost £5

(cue dh rolling eyes at cheap labour )

quadrophenia · 05/02/2007 14:47

yes River Island do have some nice stuff as do Wallis but all abit too sophisticated for me

CountessDracula · 05/02/2007 14:48

wallis is a granny shop
they do have the odd nice thing though

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 05/02/2007 14:49

OP posts:
EnidLloydFoxe · 05/02/2007 14:49

CountessDracula · 05/02/2007 14:49

quadrophenia · 05/02/2007 14:50

oh my sister bought me a dress from next for my birthday will see if i can find it, do realise though that it won't be to everyones taste!

margo1974 · 05/02/2007 14:50

per una is great for those who want to inject a bit of colour into their lives.

and the long skirts mean you dont have to shave your legs

slalomsuki · 05/02/2007 14:50

Ladies

This is the first thread on here which has had me laughing out so much.

I have to agree with you all on M & S but you have probably done the markering people a favour by putting all these hits to their site today and them thinking their stuff is great.

The returns queue is bigger than the buying queue at our store always but it does beg the question, why buy it in the first place

Sheraz · 05/02/2007 14:52

I think Next are crap at the moment too. This is the first time ever my NExt account is zero. There are many nylon fleeces and acrylic jumpers you can buy.
River Island is great as is Primark. Even George is better than the Per Una collection. The links on here are absolutley dreadful!

margo1974 · 05/02/2007 14:52

btw i never shop in river island - and never will.

they're mean people and i speak from experience

Sheraz · 05/02/2007 14:53

If only I could afford it I would buy the whole of Monssonn ((((((((((((dream)))))))

quadrophenia · 05/02/2007 14:53

nah can't find dress but it is very lovely

CountessDracula · 05/02/2007 14:53

do tell margo!

I got some fab black jeans and a top in there a couple of weeks ago

margo1974 · 05/02/2007 16:04

CD - The reasons why I will NEVER shop at River Island again

Worked there as a saturday girl and made us work until 9pm Xmas eve putting out sale 3 years running.

My brother and sister also did Saturday stints for a time as well. They tried to sack my brother for not turning up (he was at my Grans funeral) to work. (He had informed them)

They sacked my friend who had worked there for years for dishonesty - I would trust this friend with my life. She had just got married and had worked there 8 years. IMO I think that they were worried that she was going to have babies and they would have to give her SMP. I considered getting a job back there so I could fight her corner at her disciplinary hearing. She doesn't let it get to her but it still makes my blood boil, she really is the nicest person I know and they walked all over her.

so there you have it

hippmummy · 05/02/2007 16:20

PMSL at this thread!

Considering M&S is so widespread they must be surviving on underwear and food sales alone..
I've never seen anyone out on the street wearing these clothes

LOL! Admittedly the examples linked to do look hideous . But, there are some nice things there. As I said, their colours (excluding the copious quantities of brown) are really lovely this year.

Also, Top Shop, and often River Island are a no go for a heifer like me (18 )

That aside, I think a fair amount of the stuff in Top Shop, New Look and occasionally River Island, just dont look right on someone over the age of 25. Its a bit, well, muttony.

I tend to shop mostly at Next (yes, very dull blah blah blah) and Dorothy Perkins (cheap and has plenty in stock in my size). Monsoon if I can afford to once in a while.

Unless, CD et al, you can find something cheap, and lovely, and in a decent size 18?
