I am baffled by the popularity of Cos

Who wants to look like this?!

The model looks like her head has shrunk or that she is wearing clothes about 10 sizes too big for her.

Everything is so shapeless and blah and yet it's lauded as a style haven.

I don't get it.

Well, sheep that I am, I bought three dresses in the Cos sale.
They were all incredibly unflattering.
I'm an hourglass with a flat tummy, 12-14.
Cos is not for me. At least I know now and there are free returns!

originalmavis · 31/12/2016 11:17

Is it a shop for clowns?

Floisme · 31/12/2016 11:24

Oh no, is this the thread where I was really rude about them? Cos (see what I did there?) I'm now a massive fan. Blush

phoolani · 31/12/2016 11:25

Yes, that's exactly what it is. A shop for clowns. I buy all my red noses there.

phoolani · 31/12/2016 11:26

Floisme you have had quite a turn around, haven't you? 🤗

PickAChew · 31/12/2016 11:32

None of the stuff looks like it would flatter me, either, bwatch. I'm slightly dumpy, narrow shouldered and quite busty.

And it's not the lack of shaping that's the problem. I'm currently wearing a seasalt tunic in a rigid woven cotton that's fairly straight up and down, but their stuff is cut much more to suit my frame, so I really like how I look in it.

Floisme · 31/12/2016 11:41

I have phoolani. I may have to get this thread deleted to preserve my dignity. Grin

phoolani · 31/12/2016 11:49

Oh no, there's nothing more dignified than being open to change 😬 Honestly, you've given me hope that the internet can be a force for good!

phoolani · 31/12/2016 11:57

I got this for Christmas www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Dresses/Long_sleeve_A-line_dress/46881-49014440.1#c-24479
It's super flattering, drapes beautifully and isn't at all see through - it looks miles better than in the picture. Would suit anyone imo 'cept if you've got very large boobs

Kr1stina · 31/12/2016 12:10

Ah Flo, you are one of us now < warm embrace >

Welcome to the club < hands out membership cards >

Nice dress phoolani

BWatchWatcher · 31/12/2016 12:14

Ha ha ha
I bought that A line dress. I looked like an adult wearing a toddler's dress. Huge amount of frabric around the back. Had I worn it on a windy day I'd have flown into the air like a kite, and as my son helpfully advised, when I bent over you could see my pants.

Floisme · 31/12/2016 12:24

Thank you for the warm welcome which I do not deserve. I like that dress too, looks very elegant. Sorry it doesn't work for you BWatch - if there's a lot of fabric it might not be right for me either.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 31/12/2016 12:25

I bought this last week - to wear as a dress - and without trousers(!). It's beautifully cut and made of great quality pure wool (well with a bit of stretch). It has a proper waist and is super flattering. I love Cos - can you tell? At least half of my wardrobe is from there.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 31/12/2016 12:26

Gah. Forgot to paste the link in my gushing enthusiasm! wool dress

phoolani · 31/12/2016 13:25

Giddy, I've lusted after that dress but it just doesn't suit me 😠
I wouldn't say my dress had a lot of fabric but then I'm so used to cos's strange and voluminous shapes, I may not be the best judge for non cosies.

phoolani · 31/12/2016 13:29

For example this is the other dress I got www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Dresses/Dress_with_cocoon_skirt/46881-35950704.1#c-24479 and it's not my first in that style, but I can see it's not for everybody.

taybert · 31/12/2016 13:30

That wool dress is lovely and I can see it would be versatile but that model is 180cm and it's below her knee, it would just drown me. I'm imagining you all to be 11ft tall now.

phoolani · 31/12/2016 13:48

Well, I'm a huge 5'3 and I think a lot of their stuff looks better on a shorter person. My cocoon dress is a much nicer length on me imo - it's more dramatic looking!

BWatchWatcher · 31/12/2016 17:03

@Floisme, it's just a bit billowy I think.
@Phoolani I quite like that cocoon skirt dress, it's beautiful. I am backing away though as it's dry clean only :(
Has anyone tried Finery London? I've been looking at the Pentonville dress for several months now, but reckon it may not suit breasts.
Happy New Year! Wine

BWatchWatcher · 31/12/2016 17:04

I'm nearly 5"10, maybe this is why I looked silly? There was a pink dress that made me look like a dildo. Most impressive.

ZaraW · 31/12/2016 17:19

I'm 5'9" one of the reasons I love COS is because their clothes look good on taller people.

taybert · 31/12/2016 17:59

I always want to like finery too but the colours are often a bit weird for me. I'm just not trendy (evidenced by my use of the word "trendy").

MissBeehiving · 31/12/2016 19:32

I agree with many of the posts above about quality at Cos. I don't think that you can find it on the high street very much and Cos is one of those few places where the fabric, finish and tailoring is good.

I would particularly recommend;

These trousers are great. Stretchy, a really good, well tailored fit and a side zip.

I wore this dress all summer. It washes brilliantly.

HoHumming · 01/01/2017 01:19

I clicked in here to see any latest purchases.

BUT I am planning to do the no spend 2017 as I spend excessively and too many things end up in the back of my wardrobe never to see the light of day.

The exception is Cos. Half my wardrobe is from there. I must resist!!!!!!!

ScarletForYa · 01/01/2017 01:22

It's horrible.

It's like the type of ugly crap Tilda Swinton wears.
