I am baffled by the popularity of Cos

Who wants to look like this?!

The model looks like her head has shrunk or that she is wearing clothes about 10 sizes too big for her.

Everything is so shapeless and blah and yet it's lauded as a style haven.

I don't get it.

So basically in four days, I've gone from saying they can fuck right off to asking for advice on ordering Grin

banivani · 30/09/2016 12:21

Haha!

phoolani · 30/09/2016 12:21

Flo - I'd get the S, but I'm a solid 10 up top. Order both if returns are free and if, unlike me, you're good at remembering to return stuff in time..

Dulcimena · 30/09/2016 18:08

I agree with the S for the green jumper, Flo. Returns are free (but not quick!) If you want to try both.

Phoolani you are really selling the trousers! I'm slightly nervous of them because I'm a definite pear - but the black ones look so useful, as long as they're not too awful on my thighs Blush

taybert · 30/09/2016 19:57

Those grey trousers look nice but I can't seem to make that length work in the winter. I also like that wool dress!

Yes! I was browsing their site earlier and found I really liked a few of the coats and tops.

The trousers are still horrendous though. Stupid length and how did a drop-crotch ever become a thing?

plimsolls · 30/09/2016 20:36

Ha happy I'm really tempted by the drop crotch trousers. Just can't decide between grey and black! Blush

banivani · 30/09/2016 21:33

Drop crotch is a bit bizarre but I'll live and let live on that one. Accidentally bought my youngest a pair of drop crotch trousers though when he was eight and he was soooo offended. "They look like NAPPIES Mammy who wants to wear NAPPIES"

Florathefern · 30/09/2016 22:30

Plim I'm very tempted by them too. Are they the light grey ones? If you mean the dark grey ones, I have them and like them. The material is great but...I made the mistake of wearing a boxy tshirt with them during the summer and when I saw a photo of myself, I was horrified. So fitted t-shirts are a staple with them since!

plimsolls · 01/10/2016 01:03

flora yep, the light grey. I can't see the dark grey ones on the site. I've just ordered them although I tend to suit close fitting trousers & baggy tops more than the other way round so it's a gamble.

I've also ordered another pair of these www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Trousers/Slim-fit_trousers/46887-39033175.1#39033179 which are my favourite & most flattering trousers if anyone is after a pair of slim fit ones. They are a lovely thick stretchy fabric which doesn't sag and a really flattering neat cut. Come in several colours.

Florathefern · 01/10/2016 02:26

I have the other ones (I cant link as on my phone and haven't out how to do it), mine are a looser fit and a light material.

But I tried on the grey ones you bought and if I hadn't bought the harem style ones, I'd have definitely boyght them. I have the slim fit in black and grey too😀

shovetheholly · 25/10/2016 10:29

I just got an email saying they have opened in Leeds. SO HAPPY!

Northern COSERS, rejoice!

acurtis1234 · 25/10/2016 11:58

I love Cos, but I have a store where I live, so can try one before buying. I have those drop crotch trousers, they are not nearly as exaggerated as the pic, you don't stand like that with your legs apart IRL for a start! They are more drapey and super comfortable. More like a harem pant. I wear with trainers, and sometimes put a turn up on them, a slim merino knit or sweatshirt and a leather biker.

I also love their merino knitwear, I think it's among the best quality on the high street, but think it is sizing up large this season. I'm an 8-10 and have bought XS in a sweater and a cardigan.

I really wanted this to work, I have bought and returned it twice now but can't help feeling like a minimalist flamenco dancer. The slightly too short wide leg trousers it is styled with are just wrong, it needs a slim trouser to balance out the frill:

Floisme · 25/10/2016 18:37

Whereabouts is the Leeds brand holly? After shooting my mouth off upthread I feel I ought to try and make the trip! Plus I could try on that green jumper I'm still stalking.

NancyJoan · 25/10/2016 18:48

I wear loads of Cos (am a not v tall size 14). If someone asks me where something is from, it's usually there, or & Other Stories. Excellent quality, good design, not too £££.

On the other hand, I'm yet to see a single thing I would wear in Next or Per Una.

nothingwittyhere · 25/10/2016 19:03

The Leeds shop opened last week in the new Victoria Gate arcade in Leeds city centre. Its neighbouring shop in the arcade is... & Other Stories Grin

phoolani · 25/10/2016 20:39

See, now I don't get & other stories at all. I keep trying but every time I go, everything just seems so cheap looking or wispy. And I'm a massive cos fan, so I don't get what I'm missing.

botemp · 25/10/2016 20:41

I love Cos but tend to buy in the shop only whereas I always leave &Other Stories stores empty handed but buy things from their website and am always happy with it, only ever sent something back when they sent me the wrong item. It's beyond weird Confused.

Floisme · 25/10/2016 22:19

Thanks nothing, is that one of the old, fancy arcades next to Harvey Nick's?

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 25/10/2016 22:55

acurtis I tried the green version of that jumper last weekend, loved the fabric but left it in the end, felt it was a bit try hard and had no clue how to style it.

FiddleFigs · 26/10/2016 13:48

I'm 36, 5'9", 12-14, pear-shaped. My mum is 60, 5'3", 14-16, hour-glass shaped. We have vastly different styles and wardrobe requirements, yet we both love COS. I do think their pieces cater to a variety of shapes/heights; which can't really be said for many other high street shops. The quality is brilliant.

COS and Uniqlo are basically the only places I shop on the high street. The vast majority on the high street is, IMO, hideous, cheap (both in quality and look) and very samey.

I agree that the website is not doing the clothes justice. They do look very different in person, and oftentimes things that look hideous on the hanger do actually work well on. I have that dress in the OP. I wore it to a wedding with v thick black tights and high heels. I also wear it quite regularly with black jeggings and it looks wonderful.

SuperFlyHigh · 26/10/2016 13:55

jeez so am I - apols if I commented earlier in this thread just revisited Cos site again and I almost puked.

nothingwittyhere · 26/10/2016 13:56

Floisme No, it's a brand new arcade with Leeds' new John Lewis at one end. It's being pitched as an extension to the Victoria Quarter arcades (the Harvey Nicks one).

mrsrhodgilbert · 26/10/2016 20:25

I was in the new Leeds store on Sunday and absolutely loved it. I bought a fantastic long white shirt, such an interesting cut. Can't wait to go back when it's a bit quieter and try loads of things on.

Floisme · 26/10/2016 21:49

Thanks nothing - very Envy of the shopping in Leeds. Can't see me getting there before new year so will order online until then.
