I am baffled by the popularity of Cos

Who wants to look like this?!

The model looks like her head has shrunk or that she is wearing clothes about 10 sizes too big for her.

Everything is so shapeless and blah and yet it's lauded as a style haven.

I don't get it.

Oh god. Oh god. Have just found this on their look book ConfusedGrinGrin

No one on earth can pull off this.

I'm a sturdy girl size 12 and cannot pull off a single thing at Cos. I've broad shoulders like a swimmer, long skinny legs and arms and look like I've been drunk and homeless or several years when I try stuff on in there.

bloomingheather · 23/09/2016 16:21

I'm a huge fan of COS and have lots of things from there. Admittedly, a lot of my favourite things are accessories, love their shoes and scarves and jewellery, so that avoids the shapelessness issues Smile As someone else points out above though, the website is awful!!!! I have looked there a few times and seen nothing only to go into the shop and see loads that I like. You really have to try things on. The fabrics are really good quality and I think a lot of it is timeless. I do think that you can go overboard with it and I have to choose wisely. NannyPlum I have thought more than a few times that if I ever get pregnant I'll have a ready made maternity wardrobe of all my COS stuff Wink
The photo in the op is a particularly bad example mind you - that model is probably close to 6 feet and even she looks a bit ridiculous!

MrsMarigold · 23/09/2016 16:25

I know someone who is probably a 16 and she wears lots of Cos and always looks gorgeous, it's how you wear it. Also she has a good waist and some of the dresses are quite nipped in at the waist but fuller over the hips, I don't have much of a waist but have narrow hips and it's dire on me.

Floisme · 23/09/2016 16:26

See I like some of the shapes and the odd cuts - I'm getting really bored of bodycon.

The high street is getting so samey so I like it that there are still places like Cos with a distinctive, signature style, even though it doesn't all suit me.

CalmItKermitt · 23/09/2016 16:29

Oh my fucking God. That is atrocious.

There's a couple of alleged "paranormal" type videos of off looking white stick creatures that remind me of the photo in Crystals post.

Revolting. Just goes to show some people will buy anything if it's trendy.

GoofyTheHero · 23/09/2016 16:33

I've never heard of it. Just looked at the website and, well, it's dire.

DavidPuddy · 23/09/2016 16:41

I was in there yesterday and saw a beautiful jacket in the most beautiful fabric. I looked on the website later to see how they styled it and it looked horrific. Really ugly. I really think you can only shop instore and I am glad I have one down the road.

MsUnderstanding · 23/09/2016 16:48

Totally agree with you Floisme they have a fairly consistent asthetic that dosnt really change with seasonal trends. I like the cocoon like shapes and clever structured tailoring. It's not conventional high street and that's why I like it. Just a shame there isn't a branch where I live.

If anyone can link to Cos items that would work on a short, busty woman, please enlighten me! I have managed to buy two things from there ever, despite best efforts.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/09/2016 16:58

Ok I'm 5'5 so not that short...

allegretto · 23/09/2016 16:59

The tailoring is really good for the price I think. I have a lovely dress which is sort of trapezoid shaped on the bottom with a flounce that I always get loads of compliments about. yes I know that sounds rubbish but just goes to show that really you have to try things on. I had never seen the website before this thread and it certainly looks bad. I have a COS store near my work (unfortunately for my bank balance!) and I often try random stuff on.

crystalgall · 23/09/2016 17:14

Can any of
It work on a 5'2 size 12 pear shape though?

People who like it are you skinny?
I used to be a size 8 long long ago but even then with my height I don't think I could pull off a lot of the oddly
Shaped clothing.

crystalgall · 23/09/2016 17:15

Oh yeh and boobs!!! I have 32g boobs. Again don't think the shapes would work. Those models are flat chested

SuperFlyHigh · 23/09/2016 17:17

so am I. SIL and her SIL (her brother's DW) both love COS.

I've got one top I like from there, a skirt that's ok (it's red) the rest I think is shapeless tat. Bought a striped basic light blue t-shirt from there in summer and immediately returned it as just too meh.

&otherstories their sister store on the other hand I love.

SuperFlyHigh · 23/09/2016 17:17

PS it can work on larger women - I'm a 12 (generous 12) with 30G boobs and it works on me.

SuperFlyHigh · 23/09/2016 17:19

SIL and her SIL are both tall though (5 ft 9 and 5 ft 6 respectively and skinny (SIL size 8 her SIL prob a 10).

both are Hackney hipsters and in the arts though.

Floisme · 23/09/2016 17:33

I'm 5'3, size 8-10 28F so petite but not flat chested. My only claim to hipsterdom is a liking for nice coffee although that alone is enough to condemn me on aibu.

I have a grand total of two things from Cos but I love them because they're cleverly cut and they hang really nicely. They're both a bit reminiscent of Whistles but more reasonably priced and more natural fabrics.

crystalgall · 23/09/2016 18:07

super has nailed it. It really is very very Hackney hipster (where I grew up!)

I wander round now and it's full of achingly cool people in achingly
cool clothes much of which looks like it may have come from somewhere a bit like Cos.

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/09/2016 18:23

Why don't you just go for somewhere that sells mainly good stuff as opposed to mainly shit stuff?

Because it's worth it when you find a gem!

DianaT1969 · 23/09/2016 19:41

For each strange outfit you'll find lovely minimalist ones which feel good on. Like this.

I wear this with a (blue leopard print scarf) and black suede over knee boots.
Dressed in 2 minutes. I'm 5'9.

Crispsheets · 23/09/2016 19:49

I'm six feet, size 14 and big of chest. A lot of Cos just doesn't hang right...I need fitted rather than boxy. But I have some lovely trousers and a couple of fitted tops.
