Herbs Start as you mean to go on...otherwise you'll end up like me and Annoying Trustee. Out of pocket and then ostracised for not delivering what they wanted unpaid No, Ma'am...do wot GGG says.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 16/09/2016 18:29

Oh Stropps. We are linking arms with you. Very helpful of GP to encourage you in what you are doing.

Can you email / Whats'App dd and set out simply and firmly what you want to say to her? Might she be able to take that in more easily than in a phone call. It sounds like number one message is Take Your Meds / See A Doctor. I also remember you telling me about her good male friend who's been a support - might he be able to speak with her to say the same thing?

Hang on in there.

Rozdeek · 16/09/2016 18:31

Hello all,

I've been on MN for ages and I have no idea what these crepe threads are about.

Can someone explain???

GiddyGiddyGoat · 16/09/2016 18:35

Hi Rozdeek
We are laydeez of a certain age, hiding in plain sight on the s and b board while we chat about aged parents, teenage (and adult and younger) children and grandchildren, job crises, dogs, writing novels, mental health issues, the menopause, empty nests, food, gin, travel, occasionally clothes etc and whatever else crops up... Oh and we meet up those who can and drink and yak.
HTH!

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 16/09/2016 21:24

Excellent summary GGG.

So how did the home check go, BD? Obviously the new dog will have to get on with mine so visits are compatible Grin

Stropps, I would be so torn. I can hear the advice and I think it's right, but I understand how you must be feeling.

Loved your picture, Rudy, of the return to college - I can't believe how well he's done.

DD1 packing here has slowed to a halt. The beauty of a relatively near uni is the ability to come home and collect all the weirdo stuff we've forgotten.

Ds is fine - he and dh decided to do sparring in the garden, as boys do. Dh took a bit of a bump to the nose, shall we say. Not sure that won't be clocked at all the psych meetings we have next week....

Sorry for non contact but v v best wishes all round . Combination of aged parent - in hospital/out of hospital/for totally understandable yet totally exasperating reasons being very demanding - plus work. Many Flowers to so many other Crepeys coping with similar responsibilities, plus multiple Flowers to Stropps. You've had good advice from those much better able than I am to offer it, but can I please just say how much I admire you.
Nature notes: swallows have left. Hen harrier (female) sighted. DCat caught yet another weasel. Traces of pine martens all around. The current problem (very very minor, in the scale of things) is how to keep them out of shed where freezer lives. They got in one previous winter and you would not believe the mess.....

Auriga · 16/09/2016 23:23

Hi Flora :-)

Stropperella · 16/09/2016 23:37

Flora, you deserve Flowers too. Sounds as though you are having a very stressful time of it. But oh I do envy you all the wildlife. Even if the pine martens are clearly very pesky.
Latest update: dd rang at approx 10pm to say that she had taken her meds and it was a "stupid" idea to come off them. And she has a Dr's appointment for 10am tomorrow. I hope these things are true and I hope she actually goes to the appmt.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 17/09/2016 00:03

Well that's quite good enough news for now Stropps. Phew and well done to dd - it's not easy to back down from whipping up a full blown drama, especially if you're not thinking straight because you've stopped taking your meds.... Have a peaceful night Stropps, tomorrow is another day and all that.

NUFC69 · 17/09/2016 02:51

Fingers crossed, Stropps.

For Lalsy

Someone left a Crepe out in the rain
NUFC69 · 17/09/2016 02:53

Off out, no more time atm. May be out of touch as tomorrow we are going to Death Valley.

Waves to everyone.

Blackduck · 17/09/2016 07:09

Oh stropps good news...
Home visit today. Beachy I will make sure any dog is compatible Grin. DS is quite taken by DHound1 so we may look for something similar....

I intend to not do much today.

hattymattie · 17/09/2016 07:31

Stropps - result, she has begun to take responsibity.

BD - good luck for the home visit and have a good rest.

NU - Death Valley is amazing but rather hotSmile

Off to parent meeting.

Cremolafoam · 17/09/2016 07:35

Stropps, do hope dd is meaning what she's saying. And that she turns up at doc this morning .
I have had another sleepless night and feel like bunking off today... Feel like going back to bed.
Flora, sorry to hear you are doing the hospital two step. My sympathy.Flowers
Beachy, a bit of sparring sounds extremely healthy as it goes.Grin mind and body , and all that.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 17/09/2016 08:07

I hope by Dhound1, you mean the small sensible one?

That's good news Stropps.

I've had a hopeless sleepless night and I can't think of anything worse than lugging bags for life into a small student flat, but here goes! I've pulled ds out of his match today to come with me as I think it's important he sees dd's house and mates. Dunno why, amateur psychologist here Smile

Auriga · 17/09/2016 08:12

But expert mother, Beachy

Blackduck · 17/09/2016 08:17

Of course Beachy! I forgot to say how cute it was that she would stop and suck the blackberries of the bushes (BD hopes they are not poisonous)
Good luck with getting DD1 off

Cremo I know how you feel - the whole of this week was pretty rubbish...

wordassociationfootball · 17/09/2016 09:14

Oh NU your photo - what a beaut! I just stared at it and signed for a good while there.

Everything crossed that DD gets to that appointment and they are good and crepey with her Stropps.

Yes Beachy. Involving DS is a top idea. Am taking a break from frenzied novel re-wrire today. Largely cos of not great sleep. Stayed up to watch annoying doc about Billy Fury - all v short talking heads fast cuts and headache inducing noisy graphics. Then couldn't sleeo for bit, then gigantic foot cramp. Zero sweat though, Crem and Rose you have my symps.

Beach Boy visits again today and again we have a houseful plus local outside do. Might go hog wild and slap in a pair of contact lenses.

I would love to go out and suck blackberries off bushes. Might try tomorrow. Dsis away so am in charge if Mum for a fortnight, although fingers crossed shouldn't be too onerous, but doing 12-14 hour days til end of month so could come a bit unstuck.

Might just do buttered Mimi pots in foil like Crem does and hurl them on a drive by.

Auriga, just remembered how much I liked your review of The Entertainer.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 17/09/2016 09:37

I too have been a member of the crepey sleepless club the last few days- but have just woken up. I think the weather was a big part of it. Today it's grey, windy and 'fresh' here, completely different from the last week or so. I'm not sorry. I long to wear tights and a jumper rather than bare legs and t shirts by this time of year.

Beachy - good luck with the university run. Agree re ds seeing for himself.

Stropps. Fingers crossed for dd following through on her good intentions.

WAF. WTAF is a mimi pot??

Lalsy · 17/09/2016 10:47

Oh gulp, NU, thank you. Have a wonderful time in Death Valley. I went there on our West Coast trip. I insisted we fill the boot to the brim with water bottles, which we then spent the rest of the holiday trying to get rid of. Dawn at Thingy Point, amazing.

Stropps, crossing everything. I think dc - even without your dd's history - need varying amounts of support behind the scenes, more perhaps than one might think from the outside. So really hope she has been to the doc, is back on the meds, and can then start to move in the right direction again, even if slowly and with blips and a lot of what will doubtless be frustrating, and inconvenient help - if it keeps her there. So sorry you have had such a worrying week.

Molly, yup, I am braced for this next year (if ds goes to uni then). I missed dd when she left but did enjoy the peace. But ds is my last chicken and is an easy going, chatty soul and I am not looking forward to it.

Beachy, hope it goes well. What a good idea to take ds.

MrsWobble, hurrah.

Flora, hello, and Flowers.

I was on the sleepless bench on Thursday night, was gibbering wreck yesterday and ended up having a nap. GBBO catch up tonight. I suggested to dh we went to hipster bar of which there are many 10 mins away, he looked astonished and said but we haven't watched Bake Off yet. Living that ole dream, crepeys.

herbaceous · 17/09/2016 11:04

Budge up on the sleepless bench, crepes. Woke up at 5, and couldn't go back to sleep. As I did yesterday too. Not helped, I dare say, by going out to a curry and quiz charity night, fundraising for the Calais refugees. It was packed. DP and I got assigned a 'team' mainly comprising young persons, but it was ace fun. We came sixth out of 16, which was good going. If I hadn't suffered crepey brain freeze about the author of Cider House Rules, one of my favourite books, we may even have come fourth.

We did, however, win the raffle - a painting of Walthamstow bus station, which DS is thrilled with.

Today, helping on the PTA 'late summer' fair for four and half hours, then fancy dress 50th party. Then tomorrow I'm playing my bassoon in a scratch orchestra in church, and gibbering about work.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 17/09/2016 11:17

I love the fact that someone actually thought to paint Walthamstow bus station and that the artist now has an appreciative fan Smile

herbaceous · 17/09/2016 11:23

I know! Excellent and cheering all round.

Rosebag · 17/09/2016 11:28

Flora Flowers

Stropps bit of progress there. Fingers crossed DD went to her appointment this morning. Flowers

NU Envy Envy Envy

I am intermittently on the insomnia bench as well although last night was ok. I will no doubt be wide eyed and sleepless tonight before Sunday's drive to Brum. I don't know what's the matter with me but as I get older, I always have a sleepless night before any journey or travel (except to the flat) .What's wrong with me?

Good luck today, Beachy. Great idea to take DS with you.

WAF I would also love to know what the devil is a Mimi pot Grin and should I be throwing them at my DM also?

Usual Sat morning chaos here....DD has gone off to Stratford Westfield with friends, shunning the pre uni family outing this afternoon to sit on Everyman sofas again, with wine and food to watch the new Bridget Jones movie. DS1 I understand is spending the entire day in the pub as a birthday celebration, already hung over from yesterday. DH and DS2 have been dispatched to buy string to tie up DS's books in that old fashioned way, before we start loading up the car. They have also gone to look for a phone holder with sucky bits to sit on the dashboard as I am now insisting that we use the iPhone sat nav thingy instead of arguing about who's navigating all the time.

And finally ...HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONTY Cake Wine Cake Wine

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2016 11:50

Herbs, it couldn't have gone to a better home Grin

Yes Happy Birthday Monty! What are you up to?

Lovely meet-up at a friends for dinner last night and I managed to stop quaffing the fizz in time to not have a hangover this morningSmile H
Have just bought a mammoth amount of bulbs from Lidl, so I will be forcing myself to do planting this afternoon although as everyone else should be out, I may just veg on the sofa
