Herbs, that is a true work of art.

I lolled around in bed all morning Blushpartly because DD1 came and had a long chat with me. I do love DD1 and am trying not to think of nearly bursting in on them snogging yesterday. Count me in as another exhausted wreck - I will do some writing this afternoon but propped up against pillows not in the BL. I am sort of dressed in a leggings and crop top instead of a bra sort of way.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2016 14:06

Spent the morning at the local archive with DD1 who is trying to finish her extended essay. Made quite good progress, in that she told me what she was looking for, and I am good at skimming through and finding relevant pages and paragraphs. I think she should be able to finish it now.

I couldn't sleep last night either, and was wide awake at around 3.30. Not helped by large cat, who can sense when I am awake and leaped on top of me expecting love, cuddles, and possibly food.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2016 14:34

MI, whatcha worrying about if they are only snogging? Grin

I have planted my bulbs Halo Now to relax on the sofa Brew

Rosebag · 17/09/2016 14:51

If I did that MI I'd get whiplash Grin but I do love a crop top Anyway, nothing wrong with a bit of snogging....you'll have to knock in future, eh? Grin Blush

It's all change at this end. I am now not going with to take DS2 to Uni . There simply isn't room in the car. I feel ok about it since Ill be there on a conference in a couple of weeks.... and it is a way of cutting the apron strings Hmm

hattymattie · 17/09/2016 15:09

Rose - no room in our car either. The DD's are going ahead the week before by train. We shall be driving a mad Paris, Cambs, York triangle in one weekend.

DD2's idea of packing is rolling things into a ball and stuffing them in a case. I have unpacked and am now ironing neat packable piles.

Glad the extended essay is progressing Mrs S.Smile

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2016 15:10

Snogging and general teen behaviour is much underestimated IMHO. Even when you're old.

Blackduck · 17/09/2016 16:22

Rose if you ever up my way and got some free time let me know!

Rudy, I will be in there with RL friends next Sat Grin GrinGrin

My friend inspired me last night re the bulbs. I know nothing about gardening so they probaby won't grow!

motherinferior · 17/09/2016 17:59

I could go a Dark and Stormy.

I might get some Night Nurse too.

Dreamqueen · 17/09/2016 18:33

I lurk on here to but have posted on and off.

Happy birthday Monty

Hope all the offspring get off to uni ok & happily.

Not much sleep here either. Also looking forward to cooler weather.

Dreamqueen · 17/09/2016 18:33

should have previewed meant too not to. Sorry for spelling error.

Lalsy · 17/09/2016 18:53

Monty, happy birthday!

Uni-goers, do feed back. Brum and York both on ds' list of possibles but decisions/research hampered by lack of internet and Saturday football (tho he isn't in a particular rush to press button, and is nowhere near atm). He did an open day at York and liked it very much, especially the thought of living pretty well above the sports centre and having his meals cooked Grin. Hope all going this weekend have smooth trips. Rudy, no wonder given what else has been happening.

Stropps, crossing all appendages things are calm.

herbaceous · 17/09/2016 19:00

I have misread the fancy dress instructions for tonight. I thought it was 60s theme. In fact it's 60s style. I have repurposed 'moon landings' to become 'astronaut with beads'.

MrsWobble3 · 17/09/2016 19:11

Am in Gib waiting for dd1 current ETA 1am tomorrow. We decided to come out and meet her rather than wait for her to get back to the UK. One of the advantages of life as empty nesters is the flexibility it affords.

Other benefits I have found are (1) flexibility re meals in terms of timing, content and location; (2) it's cheaper when you do go out as paying for 2 not 5; (3) the house is much tidier - the hall isn't full of shoes and the mugs are clean and in the kitchen rather than dirty and distributed around the house.

I still miss them terribly though. But terms are surprisingly short.

And thanks for all the congrats for dd1 - since I took the stress feel happy to take the credit. I hope all other Crepey offspring enjoy their uni experience and are a bit better organised than my dd1.

hattymattie · 17/09/2016 19:23

Mrs W - will look forward to fewer shoes and mugs.

Lalsy - will feedback on York - DD is in the catered hall - I think there is only one.

DD2 has informed us that she has bought a king size mattress on GumTree and has had it delivered to boyfriend''s college. Apparently we will be moving it across town to her place when we arrive in two weeks. I feel I shopuld be disapproving about her hanky panky not facilitating itHmm

Rudy - you must let us know what DS makes of his never before visited Uni town.

MontserratCaballe · 17/09/2016 19:31

Hello everyone! Thank you for the lovely birthday wishes! Am having a splendid day and just about to open my presents. Hope to catch up properly tomorrow. Love to you all xxx

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 17/09/2016 19:46

Dd1 all moved in. The only single bedroom in the house, so no hanky panky in there Grin all the other occupants seemed nice. She knew one girl but the others are new. Stocked her cupboards, gave her lunch and left her bad ding up sausages into freezer bags.... So organised!

OP posts:
BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 17/09/2016 19:47

She always 'bad dings' her sausages Grin

CointreauVersial · 17/09/2016 20:26

Happy birthday, Monty!

Hang on in there, Strops. Maybe the fact that you didn't rush over has allowed DD time to take stock and make some grown-up decisions for herself. Hopefully getting back onto her meds will stabilise her thoughts.

Sending best wishes to the empty nesters. It's not something that I've ever really given any thought to (DS currently has no plans to go to uni). I read a statistic recently which gave the average age of a son leaving home as 34. Shock That means, for every son that leaves at 24, there's one still in situ at 44. I must say, I've always regarded DS as particularly helpless domestically, but this changed slightly today - we went to collect him from work and found him closing the cafe on his own because his colleague had left early - he was busy clearing out the cake cabinets, washing up, sweeping....we did give him a hand but I was quite impressed that two teenagers manage this alone every week. He keeps his skills well-hidden at home, though, possibly because it's so convenient if mum does it. Hmm

Well done on the bulbs, BTM. I have at least walked around the garden to see what needs digging out. Borders are overrun with an infestation of perennial geraniums (the ones with small purple flowers which come up in darling little cushions in the spring, then by September are lolling everywhere in huge, stringy drifts). Also there is a huge amount of something the previous owner put in - it comes up, throws out some weedy flowers in an unpleasant shade of yellow, then falls over. I have decided what needs doing, but made no plans to actually do it.

Grin at Walthamstow bus station! I think it's quite a nice picture, though maybe not for the same reasons as mini-Herbs.

NU - I am looking wistfully at your pics and wishing we were still there. DD1 has put together an amazing video/photo montage of our whole holiday and I keep rewatching it. Hope DV is enjoyable - DH and I went there in 1999. It is indeed on the warm side.

Hi DQ and Flora - nice to see you.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2016 20:33

Grin at walking round the garden. I can see everything from the kitchen window as it is the size of a postage stamp and I still can't keep on top of it !

Just watched a very not-feelgood teen-type film with DH and DSConfused DD has gone to a 40th birthday party round the corner with her matesGrin

hattymattie · 17/09/2016 21:17

We are watching Zero Dark Thirty -most definitely not feel good - and probs why i am no on MN for a bit of respite.

CV - I love those perennial geraniums - anything which grows by itself and flowers is good in my book.

Blackduck · 17/09/2016 21:43

Passed home visit :). So think Flash (Gordon ) - aka Sotu - (Saviour of the Universe) will be ours in about three weeks..... Ds madly pleased...

Stropps - hopping no news is good news.

Herbs you seem to attend the most fab parties :)

Happy Saturday one and all...
