MI - fork biscuits:

100g softened butter
50g caster sugar
150g self-raising flour

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180ºC/160ºC fan/gas 4.
Lightly butter the baking trays
Measure the butter into a bowl and beat to soften.
Gradually add the sugar and then the flour.
Bring the mixture together with your hands to form a dough.
Break up into 16 balls (or 15 in my case) about the size of a walnut.
Place on a tray spaced well apart.
Dip a fork in a little water and then flatten the biscuits
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a pale golden colour.
Move to a wire rack to cool completely.

Add stuff to flavour as you will - lemon zest, cinnamon, replace 25g of flour with 25g cocoa powder, chopped nuts.

Very, very quick and easy.

Or make muffins. You can add some oats to them to make them more substantial - oat and banana work well, and walnuts are delicious with banana too.

Yumm, MrsS!

Lalsy, I only really wear boots in Winter (Converse Spring/Autumn and Birkies Summer!) I think Duo are recommended for those who are wide of calf? Mine are fairly wide but also long which is a whole other problem!

motherinferior · 13/09/2016 09:31

Thank you!

DD2 is making the biscuits!

Cremolafoam · 13/09/2016 13:28

Wow! Me too those look delish!

Lalsy, i think you might like Fat Face.
They do interesting winter boots and good plain old tops in substantial cotton. Nice teal stuff this seasons colour appaz.
I an having Iceland clothing ishoos.
Mild temps - walking on a glacier - fancy pants restaurant with Mich stars booked by sister - rudy swimming.
Nightmare.

Dad is being moved as we speak to nursing home to recover from double pneumonia. And get physio to encourage leg movement.

MI, you are a better mother than me. My dc had to bake their own biscuits if the shopping had run out. I think the recipe of choice was from the Tweenies annual 2003 (although it might be 2004) which I think is very similar to the recipe posted by Mrs S.

motherinferior · 13/09/2016 13:53

MrsW, you have a proper job, though. I am freelance and just at the moment there isn't a lot of work around. Hence my moment of caring motherhoodSmile.

And now I've made one lot DD2 will doubtless make the next Grin. My bet is that this lot will last 20 mins...

Lalsy · 13/09/2016 14:27

Cremo, you are spot on. I do like fat face, will check their winter stuff.

Iceland - we went in August and were a bit unlucky with the weather. There was an awful lot of water and wind involved, even on good days (waterfalls, geysers, spray, no trees etc)....I would take a pair of quick dry walking trousers, thermal leggings, waterproof and windproof jacket and waterproof walking boots, if you have them all. And two swimsuits so you never have to put a wet one on (some of the swimming paces are extraordinary). Outside R, everyone seemed to wear goretex for everything. Your Saturday dress for the lovely restaurant? I thought you looked fab in that.

hattymattie · 13/09/2016 14:28

I pronounce the biscuits excellent - I have had two!

Mine eat toast and Nutella or toast and peanut butter when they are in need of immediate sustenance.

Crem - you should have told me you were heading for Iceland and I'd have brought you my waterproof trousers, bought in the Lake District. They were very sweaty though. We were thinking of going there this year but it was very expensive with two kids in tow and no weather guarantee. Glad to hear DDad is improving and something's been sorted for him.

Lalsy - I like Fat Face - although I gather it is frowned upon on MN. I wear boots from about October till April, then trainers of some sort. I used to wear Converse or equivalent till my tendons gave up.

Have been to enrol for my French Naturalisation Exam! I fell into a reverie on the metro, missed my stop and had to backtrack.

Lalsy · 13/09/2016 14:33

There is a hilarious (and frankly terrifying) museum in R, where they interpret Iceland's history using wax models whose faces were based on real local dignitaries. The mayor's daughter, as I remember, got to be the warrior who terrified her enemies by exposing a bare breast.

hattymattie · 13/09/2016 15:41

GrinLalsy - I'd try that if I dared.

Lalsy · 13/09/2016 15:48

Do you think it might work on BT? Grin

GiddyGiddyGoat · 13/09/2016 15:56

Definitely Lalsy. Give it a whirl and report back!

motherinferior · 13/09/2016 16:01

Pretty wussy enemies, I have to say, if they quailed at an eyeful of bosom.

NUFC69 · 13/09/2016 16:17

I meant to say yesterday, Happy Birthday to Addle.

After having seen some of Cren's birthday pics (thanks, MI) I am feeling very old and fat - what's this about being Crepey, you lot look wonderful. What a vibrant lot of ladeez!

It's cold and cloudy here this morning which is probably for the best. Yesterday we drove up the Comstock Highway to Virginia City which is a traditional Wild West town with saloons and boardwalks, but we didn't stay long as I felt dizzy, probably due to the heat and altitude. Then last night I went down with an infrequent migraine, with the lot: flashing lights, pins and needles in my arm, garbled speech. I have woken up feeling fine this morning, thank goodness, but will take it easy for the day.

Rose, yes to wine in Sonoma: I actually prefer it to the Napa Valley as the wineries are mostly small, so the scenery is prettier. We had a private wine tasting with one of the owners - it was fascinating talking to her.

About our expensive meal, I seem to have mislaid the menu which I snaffled, but it was a tasting menu and we had: a tuna starter (sushi like, ie uncooked), an apple and Brie soup, Aberdeen Angus beef, and then pecan pie. It was all delicious and beautifully cooked and presented.

BD, your student sounds completely mad, what an idiot.

hattymattie · 13/09/2016 16:40

Ooh MI - I'd love to see pics. Are you going to put them on FB?

NU - you need to come back to boiling UK.

Addle - belated happy birthday, I somehow forgot to post that yesterday, my excuse being that with my pea sized memory, I often forget what is further up the thread as I scroll down to reply.

herbaceous · 13/09/2016 17:29

I want to see pics too, MI! And/or BTM - weren't some on your phone?

Phew what a scorcher, eh crepeys? When DP comes home, we're going to have an Aperol spritz in the garden. That'll help.

Blackduck · 13/09/2016 17:39

Biscuits look great MI.

Here we have had thunder and lightening - so much for hottest day - looks at wet feet.

I like FatFace - but then I don't belong in S&B.

Student issues rumbles on. Everyone agrees with me - he apparently hopes to get stipend tax free and get the salary too - I think that might be illegal. Anyway I can't believe how badly it effected me - I cried buckets this morning Confused

motherinferior · 13/09/2016 17:47

They aren't my pics - came via Crem!

bigTillyMint · 13/09/2016 17:47

Hatty, I can put my photos on FB just for Crepies to see if that's OK with everyone?

It is soooo hot! Finished work early and had a snooze in the sun - now off to cinema with DD.

Collymollypuff · 13/09/2016 18:14

I want to see the pix! Pretty please. Hatty, when you say you fell into a reverie, was it because you were channelling Frenchdom? Wink It sounds so romantic. Did you sigh and rest your head on a mossy bank (in the Metro)?

What film, BTM?

JustmeandtheChickens · 13/09/2016 18:17

Still here!

Who was it who said up-thread that things can move a bit quickly!! Busy with work for the next few weeks, but I'll try and keep up.

Thanks for your suggestions for an uber cool photography event outfit - good ideas - thank-you! Except for the heels ..... ha ha ha ha ha ... if only. I have, in fact, just today, bought a tube skirt from F+F - it really looks quite good, I'm pleased - who knew!!

I think it was Crem who asked if DH was exhibiting - no, he's won the opportunity to photograph a couple of shows @ London Fashion Week - so who knows where that may lead one day!!

My 1st Q was - 'do photographers get the goody bags'!!

You lot go on great hols - we were hoping to get way for a few days earlier this year - but we missed the boat and now have major building work going on so I think it'll be next year now.

Iceland sounds fascinating and I also fancy 'thefeelgoodfestival' in Flintshire next year - it was founded by Cerys Matthews and looks really cool - in a crepey type way!

Can't join in on the baking I'm afraid - very rarely eat biscuits or cake so no desire to learn how to bake them!! This is not a stealth boast - I replace them with cheese and wine and haribo gummy sweets !!

motherinferior · 13/09/2016 18:30

Justme, my holiday this year was a week on a noisy road in DublinGrin
