I'm 28 and I've never heard of it.
Have I been living under a rock.
What age is its target audience?
Is it for the more mature lady.
All I've seen since I joined is Boden this Boden that.
Am I missing out?

Used to get Vertbaudet stuff when DDS were little. Have never bought Boden.

shakerkitchenunits · 17/08/2016 21:34

i only heard of it when i joined mn too. i ordered about 10 items in the summer clearance sale a couple of weeks ago and only keep 4 items. of those kept, one shrunk and another has a hole in it already. wont't be buying from boden again.

"Have you never heard of google either? Hmm"

Tubby how do you expect someone to google a company whose name they don't know because they have never heard of them? I don't know anyone who buys from them, and as they aren't on the high street I had never heard of Boden until reading about them on here.

So, then I googled them.

EmpressTomatoKetchup · 17/08/2016 22:11

fugg No. I do not go high street shopping. Nor do I walk around John Lewis. not since I was breast feeding and wanted to make use of thier baby feeding area in the Oxford Circus branch I read fashion mags and blogs and shop online. When I do go to the high street I target a couple of shops. I hate shopping. But I like clothes.

whattheseithakasmean · 17/08/2016 22:21

I find Boden bits and pieces useful for work - especially the dresses. I work in quite a conservative, professional role, so its inoffensive lack of edge is perfect for my work life. I tend to be an utter scruff when not at work, so just wear any old crap.

polyhymnia · 17/08/2016 23:40

I don't think it's right just to condemn everything Boden as 'matronly' or 'mumsy'. I have plenty of good well fitting basics from there - always bought with 20% off - which I can mix and match with others.

squoosh · 18/08/2016 00:15

The only person I know in real life who wears Boden is a male colleague who's very fond of their patterned shirts. I'd never even heard of the company pre MN. Nothing I've seen has tempted me to look any further either.

Floisme · 18/08/2016 07:28

I take the piss out of Boden sometimes but I usually buy a couple of things a year and you know what, I quite like them.

I like it that they understand concepts like sleeves and knee coverage. (Yes, I'm a 'mature lady')
I like it that they're not too cool to do colour.
I like it that they still do a reasonable amount of cotton, silk and wool and that generally, it wears well. It makes them more expensive but there's always an offer knocking around.
I like their returns policy and their customer service.

And I like it that although I'm not stupid and this is the fashion industry, at least they're registered in the UK and from what I've heard (and please shout if I've heard wrong) they seem to be a reasonably decent employer; that Johnny Boden started the company himself, doesn't live in a tax haven and doesn't seem the type to pay himself £500 million before selling the company to a known bankrupt then pissing off to his yacht, leaving a pensions deficit behind. So all things considered, I'd rather pay my money to him than some of his cooler competitors.

NeedACleverNN · 18/08/2016 07:44

See my highstreet doesn't have any "top branded" shops

The closest you can get is next, Gap, new look, Dorothy Perkins and m and co.

Apart from sainsburys we only have a couple more shops that sell clothing. One is peacocks, the other is an independent shop that sells random labels.

So no white company, fat face or anything like that

Mrs9C · 18/08/2016 12:13

I've shopped from Boden for the past 10 years, and I'm only 34. Heard of it a long time before MN. I like their quality, and when I spend that little bit more (with a code!) I get more wear out of it, as their clothes are timeless. Not everything is to my taste, but there are a few things there I like. Their clothes have been passed down through our children too. I also shopped in Joules before everyone knew about it, it's sort of annoying that it's not different anymore.

I don't like near Primark or high st shops etc... I live rurally, hence why I'm probably a good target market for them. Saying that, I am so not middle class!

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 12:19

Boden is pretty. Edgy is pretentious and an attempt to contrive coolness. Laughable, really!

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 12:19

Primark is horrendous.

Usedandabusedww · 18/08/2016 12:24

What's wrong with primark?

squoosh · 18/08/2016 12:24

Boden is pretty. Edgy is pretentious and an attempt to contrive coolness. Laughable, really!

Why would you laugh?

If someone wants to look 'pretty', that's fine. If someone wants to look 'cool', that's fine. If someone wants to walk about day to day dressed as a Star Wars Sith Lord, also fine!

Honestly, wear what you want but don't be a twat because someone else has different taste.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 12:27

What's right with Primark? The shops smell
If nasty cheap dyes for starters.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 12:27

...of nasty

Usedandabusedww · 18/08/2016 12:28

See I think primark is ok for basics like vests etc
And they do nice winter scarfs ..some of the tops are bad and I wouldn't go near them but sometimes you can find a hidden gem

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 12:28

Is there a "twat" style, then? Lol

squoosh · 18/08/2016 12:29

I'm not sure exactly. What are you currently wearing?

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 12:32

Ah. You don't do sarcasm?

squoosh · 18/08/2016 12:33

Aww, did that go over your head?

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 12:41

I don't usually communicate with people who use vulgar words. I was well brought up...

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 12:43

You can take the "girl" out of Luton but you can't take Luton out of the "girl".
Haha

squoosh · 18/08/2016 12:44

A delicate but not so precious thing. How sweet.

Thankfully I've never been to Luton but I've heard the horror stories.

MunchCrunch01 · 18/08/2016 12:46

i have been wearing boden since i was early 20s, i do love it but i also agree the quality has gone down, particularly of the knitwear but also the children's clothes. I wish they'd improve it a bit, the prices haven't gone down.
