I've never heard of Boden ....

I'm 28 and I've never heard of it.
Have I been living under a rock.
What age is its target audience?
Is it for the more mature lady.
All I've seen since I joined is Boden this Boden that.
Am I missing out?

For me it's all about mini Boden. I rarely by stuff for me but my eldest is 14 and I've been buying his stuff from there since he was 2. It can be expensive at £40 for a pair of kids trousers but you get what you pay for and the born lined drawstring trousers have done all 3 of my boys and still look good. And for DD, it's good to be able to stock up on stuff that isn't pink. I like her to wear trousers that are green or brown. I like the flowery pattern tshirts. I like the jersey dresses. I do think it's a bit 'little girl' so I can imagine she'll grow out of it before the boys as it all looks quite young and the 12+. Stuff whilst good for the boys has a fairly rubbish selection for girls. But twice a year I circle what I want for them, wait for the 15% discount code then bulk buy enough to do the seasons. With poor ds3 though, the suitcase gets opened and out pops 'new' stuff thst his brothers didn't manage to wreck! 😆

YY
The signature warm checked boys pjs were fab 10yrs ago. Now they're thinner and far less cosy.

Justtrying · 17/08/2016 19:16

Love Mini Boden for Dd, but struggle for myself, short busty size 16 top 14 bottom, the occasional skirt fits but not enough material in the bust. Have tried the summer dresses but disappointed in the fit and fabric.

cexuwaleozbu · 17/08/2016 19:20

Before mumsnet I thought Boden was just a kids clothing brand. There's a "good quality second hand children's clothes" shop near me. I often got things from there that were nice. When DS had a growth spurt I took in a bag full of old clothes hoping for a part-exchange deal and learned that "good quality" was defined as Boden and a few other expensive brands. Items that were bought new at Tesco or Sainsbury and had had very little wear were rejected but Boden is apparently good quality enough to retain its value between 2nd hand and 3rd hand.

That was when I looked on the website and was shocked. £30 for any item of clothing for a child that is going to get mucky in 5 minutes. No way.

Artandco · 17/08/2016 19:27

Biden kids clothes are really frumpy and have random huge pictures on to. Not something I would dress mine in.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 17/08/2016 19:27

Plenty of friends In Yorkshire wear Biden as do their children. I'm in Berkshire and Boden is rife on the school run.

I'm older at 40 but have been buying the odd basic for years and plenty for the Dc. Some of the dresses are fab for work and the jersey dresses suit me for casual wear.

I couldn't careless if that makes me boring, old before my time etc.

Propertyquandry · 17/08/2016 19:29

Cex, yes but if it's going to last tree climbing and visits to go ape and bike rides and still be good enough come the next season to pass on to his younger brother and then his younger brother then it doesn't seem so expensive. I have pjs that have gone through 4! All 3 boys and now their sister. Not bad value!

WhatTheActualFugg · 17/08/2016 19:31

I find with a 20% off the clothes are no more expensive than JL own brand or Gap and much better.

And they do last ages and ages.

I used the Mini Boden chinos for my DS nursery trousers and they outlived several pairs of shoes!!

seven201 · 17/08/2016 19:32

You probably saw my Boden tags question thread then!

I only ever by the occasional thing in the sale as it's expensive. I'm 33.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 17/08/2016 19:35

It's just clothes, some of its nice some of its shit. Their dress make me look like Kirsty allsops dowdy twin who married a minister but have some lovely skirts and tops from there.

Expellibramus · 17/08/2016 19:37

I like their shoes and basics, including cashmere. I never buy it full price, there's always a code which isn't rocket science seeing as that's the standard model for most online retailers now.

I'm not frumpy or mumsy (although why that even needs to be a consideration I don't know) but think anyone with a bit of imagination or minimal style will see past the few printed tops they have.

museumum · 17/08/2016 19:41

How can kids clothes possibly be described as frumpy? Shock

Tbh I think that word has a different meaning to some people than it does to me Confused

I have some plain coloured Boden stuff. I don't really like patterns. Lots of their stuff comes in a block colour.

woodhill · 17/08/2016 19:43

I used to buy loads from Boden and the sales were brilliant but I don't seem to like it anymore.

I think it is now too young for me even though I'm under 50.

Artandco · 17/08/2016 19:49

This is what I would call kids frumpy clothing

m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/boys-sweatshirts-fleeces/21952/boys-reversible-shaggy-zip-through

Expellibramus · 17/08/2016 19:50

I like those, different taste I guess.

whifflesqueak · 17/08/2016 19:51

I don't like it personally but I don't think I'd describe it as frumpy...

Foxsox · 17/08/2016 19:55

I'm 33, heard of it at 26 and have been wearing for about 5 years.
Their dresses are great & the kids clothes are brill.
Go and have a look

museumum · 17/08/2016 19:55

Maybe on the model I sort of see what you mean but that coat is for age 2 to 12. I would only just about apply "frumpy" to the age 11-12 one.
Imo a 2yr old can't be "frumpy".

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 17/08/2016 20:07

It's practical not frumpy. Head to toe in Boden prints maybe a bit passé but with a plain pair of jeans and a striped tee, it's warm and practical and makes a change from the usual boys stuff.
I agree a bit young for a 11/12 year old however there are probably 8/9 year olds out there needing the larger sizing.

MagentaRose72 · 17/08/2016 20:46

Boden have some nice clothes, but nothing I've ever liked enough to spend out on. I prefer to make my own clothes as they are more individual and you won't end up wearing the same outfit as someone else.

Propertyquandry · 17/08/2016 21:08

Those shaggy fleeces are warm and comfy. They wash well and dry quickly. My boys wore them until about age 9.

DailyFailAteMyFish · 17/08/2016 21:10

My 7 year old has requested that 'frumpy' Boden hoody because it's so toasty and warm.
They wash brilliantly and he lives in them. He is not frumpy.

DailyFailAteMyFish · 17/08/2016 21:11

Enjoys mental image of my DS wearing mum boots, mum jeans and a waterfall cardigan...

bigfriendlygiant · 17/08/2016 21:17

I've only heard of it because my husband used to order pick at their warehouse in Leicester when he was at uni.

user7755 · 17/08/2016 21:20

I thought it was a coffee machine thing
