I hope I have remembered the chosen title correctly - I have used Crem's title (think it was Crem's) as the old thread is full.

Inspired by CV and Rose I have put 10 things on Ebay. They range from size 10 to 16. WTF.

Addle - that's a lot going on for a Monday! Hope dh is on the mend soon.

First day of summer? Summer solstice? Pah. Freezing cold and wet and very very grey here. Have decided never to buy summer clothes again .

Rosebag · 20/06/2016 09:07

Shock Addle Flowers WineChocolate

Smile Beachy that's sweet....

I think the grumpiness is a mixture of weather and hormones (or the lack of them...) It is not only pouring, but dark at this end. I am relieved to hear from Hatty that the weather might improve in Paris...We are off to Disney on Friday for our mad end of exams treat...!!! It seemed like a good idea at the time Hmm . Arguments ensuing...DH and DD like white knuckle rides, DS and I don't.... Blush Any tips welcome.

Meanwhile we still have to get over A2 Spanish (DS sitting as I type) GCSE RS Ethics paper (DD this afternoon) and A2 RS, both papers tomorrow afternoon (DS) And then it's over. OVER I say.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 20/06/2016 09:08

Gosh, poor Mr Addle. Must be serious if they are keeping him in until Wednesday.

I spent all Saturday in A & E as well. Ddad has had a series of near collapses, so we spent all day being investigated but likely we will need to be referred to a spinal unit, but with us living where we do, is over an hour away Sad

My trains are soooo bad this morning, I'm nowhere near work yet!

Rosebag · 20/06/2016 09:21

Oh no Beachy Poor DDad and you. Sad Flowers

Blackduck · 20/06/2016 09:27

Addle so sorry about DH and the restructure (I HATE that word)

It was so darn cold yesterday afternoon I went and put woolly socks on and seriously contemplated the heating.... peeing down this morning and like Beachy trains are screwed.... (last week was hell, this week could be worse). Beachy sorry about ddad (I won't mention dmum - a very grim week)

In diving news ds should get his PADI scuba diver BUT not open water :( We might be able to 'top' him up over the over summer.

Dp finally arrived home at 10.00 last night after a series of delays....

Rosebag · 20/06/2016 17:26

BD Flowers

DD has finished. Done. Over with. Grin Wine

motherinferior · 20/06/2016 18:05

Argh, hopeless day here. Am going to nip out while some sunshine is here, and get flatbreads to eat with rather fab aubergine and chickpea curry which is today's only real achievement. Cooked aubergine in the oven so it has gone quite purée-ish in the spiced tomato sauce. Will make a salad with avocado in to go with it.

CointreauVersial · 20/06/2016 19:01

GrinWine for Rose, and GrinGrinCake for DD!

Blimey, Addle, that was some injury.

MI - I'm coming to yours for dinner. Sounds way nicer than the back-of-the-freezer offerings I'm dishing up this evening.

DS went along to the "6th form intro" day at his school, even though he is almost certainly not staying on....and thinks he might have made some wrong choices A-level-wise, particularly Psychology (which, to be fair, was a bit of a pin-in-map choice). He really, really isn't taking time to think things through, and risks being locked into two years of something he dislikes if he's not careful. He has the "college intro" day in a couple of weeks, and I'm sincerely hoping he gets his head around it by then.

hattymattie · 20/06/2016 19:16

Addle - hope DH is feeling better this evening.

MI - your curry sounds delicious.

Rose - DS was at Park Asterix today - it has rained all day hope it gets better for you. DS is at Disney on Thursday (end of term trips). If you don't like speed Pirates of the Caribean is great and the thrill chasers are spoilt for choice although mine love the RocknRoll Roller Coaster in the Disney Studios park.

DD2 had maths today and it was "alright" apparently so I'm hoping against hope things will be ok. Physics and Spanish tomorrow.

NUFC69 · 20/06/2016 19:28

Addle, so sorry to hear about DH - hope he's out promptly on Wednesday; and awful about the restructuring. Beachy, sorry about your DDad, too. It's not easy being of the sandwich generation. Rose, yay for the end of exams.

My day didn't go so well, at least not at first - we spent the first half hour of our journey in Washington Services as the warning sign came up to say we had low pressure in a tyre. As they're run flat tyres we couldn't tell if there was a puncture. Anyway, to cut a long story short, two lovely Highway Officers helped us out, escorted us for a while on the motorway and waved us on our way - the traffic jams were awful. We were late arriving, and therefore late leaving, so our lovely lunch didn't materialise, and didn't get home until 5.30. At least DH is taking himself down by train to pick his car up. It was, however, pleasant to drive back in the sunshine with the roof down in my car.

Off to DFriends now to watch the England match.

NUFC69 · 20/06/2016 19:30

Oh, and Rose, I can't help because given half a chance I am a speed/roller coaster junkie. Am now feeling quite envious.

bigTillyMint · 20/06/2016 19:46

CV, DD has found that Psychology this year has been very much based on looking at research so has been qite scientific/statistical. And loads of facts to learn about who did what study when with how many participants, what they found, etc, etc Can we offer any insights into different Alevels?

NU, what a palarva.

DO NOT GO ON SPACE MOUNTAIN! I have never felt so ill for like 5 hours.
We did Parc Astrix one year - loved it!

hattymattie · 20/06/2016 20:41

I have never been on Space Mountain and I have been to Disney more times than I can count.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 20/06/2016 20:50

Yes, what's he chosen CV - I expect we have some vicarious knowledge between the lot of us?!

Yay to end of exams Rose. Well done that dd! Not long now Hatty! Ds has to wait until tomorrow to get his tripos results. fingers crossed.

Yum MI. Here it was lamb chops w/ chopped salad, roast chopped up potatoes and a fair bit of moaning. Had forgotten how much I enjoyed supper with all the family (not).

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/06/2016 21:00

I used to have a season ticket for Disney and only went on Space Mountain once. You have been warned, Rose. (I have emailed you my guide on how to do Disney without queuing more than necessary.)

Addle, sending you [win]WineWine

I have just got in from work, having gone in early this morning. Have got a lot of the "important but not urgent" stuff out of the way, most of which was about to become "important and urgent". Strongly suspect a member of my team is going to go sick tomorrow, having hit "cannot cope". He is out of his depth but won't ask for help (I have offered).

motherinferior · 20/06/2016 21:19

Supper was indeed most delish. And sneakily vegan - now DD1 is eating meat again we ate a vast amount of the stuff at the weekend (DP mainly does the cooking at the weekend) and I feel our arteries could do with a bit of de-clogging.

Trying to bash something out to mean I've done some actual productive work today...

CointreauVersial · 20/06/2016 22:41

DS's A level choices: PE, Biology, Psychology and Film Studies. Except, the school can't offer Film Studies, so threw in Business Studies as an alternative. Which he surprised himself by really enjoying today.....and he's now having second thoughts about Psychology.....The Sixth Form College could pretty much cater for any permutation, and he really wants to do Film Studies.

He's more the sciency-mathsy type. Essays, or anything too wordy/interpretive/creative, are not his strong points; he prefers factual stuff.

If it were me, I'd suggest he goes to the College and dumps Psychology in favour of Business Studies, but it's not me, it's him. For the first time in his life HE has to invest a bit of time in making a decision.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 20/06/2016 23:35

CV, does he have any clue at all what he might want to do post A levels? if so then are some choices going to allow that / other choices not? If no idea then are his choices going to keep broad options open?

Obviously I have no idea about what he hopes to do or if he knows but some subjects are viewed more favourably than others by Universities... but I expect you know all this so I'll shut up! Psychology is quite facty at A level I think - BTM's dd will know. Is Film Studies?

CointreauVersial · 21/06/2016 00:15

Oh, I don't think university is necessarily on the cards. Hence the "softness" of some of the subjects.

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 06:59

Yes GGG, Psychology has certainly been very, very facty so far! DD's friends who do both Psych and Sociology say Sociology's the "softer" option - has he really compared the two? (DD didn't!) Maybe he would prefer Sociology. Or neither!
BTEC PE is apparently very highly regarded (in fact may be preferable to the A level), and as DDEnvy pointed out, means that you have course-work ongoing but no final exams.

Addle, how's your DH doing?

DD is off on an Eco trip to a local uni today. Yesterday her Eco teacher took them out to meet a local entrepreneur in Addle/Lalsy's locale, who treated them all to a free lunch!

Blackduck · 21/06/2016 07:45

Here horrendous train journeys continue - engineering work....
Blind man came to give his spiel and I am quite taken by them but the cost of this patio is breathtaking (as is the view) and worrying me.

Work - meh - lost my va va voom - def time to leave, just need another job.

Blackduck · 21/06/2016 08:25

I hated Disney (sorry that probably makes me a heretic!)

Lalsy · 21/06/2016 08:26

Any subjects that involve free lunches sound good to me Grin.

CV, won't Film Studies involve creative/interpretative work and lots of essays? I don't know much about it so forgive my ignorance! I agree with GGG - important either to keep options open (if you can) or make sure you have the subjects you need for whatever you want to do next (and if he has no idea, could you ask the sixth form college for a list of what people do and pick a few likely things and just check he is in the ball park)? How good is his maths?

Lalsy · 21/06/2016 08:30

BD, I really hope a new job appears soon, your situation sounds awful.......and for you, Crem preferably in a high end travel agents with lots of freebies.

addle · 21/06/2016 08:39

Beachy so sorry to hear about yr dad.
Dh doing well Thks. Hopes to come out tomorrow and is v nimble on crutches. Poor man with dementia in bed opp threatened to set the bow street runners on his career yesterday. Our holiday with all its public transport and walking may require rethinking.
Bd is there any support/encouragement we can offer you with new job getting? (Ditto of course Crem and herbs)
