I hope I have remembered the chosen title correctly - I have used Crem's title (think it was Crem's) as the old thread is full.

Herbs - will be fab to have lots of time en famille in the summer but eek re new job on horizon.

Inspired by CV and Rose I have put 10 things on Ebay. They range from size 10 to 16. WTF.

Addle, I have forgotten where you are going - do you have to fly and if so will he be in plaster? DH was very, very lucky in persuading the doc to remove the plaster the day before we flew off to take the kids skiing for the first time...

BDFlowers I agree - can the Crepey collective do anything to support you and Cremo and Herbs?

Here one of my lovely colleagues has had a diagnosis of a cancerous growthSad

Have tiresome day today. Have to drive to DParents to sort out a semi-permanent carer, who's starting today, and be assessed by another care agency, who may or may not then start after that. This has been arranged after approx 50 messages, emails, voicemails, etc, in between doing everything else. Mum is even more confused than I am.

Still, once it's sorted it should mean a bit of peace and stability for a while for all concerned.

It's DP's birthday, but he's got to take on the onerous task of taking DS swimming after school as I'll be indisposed.

Having my teaching observed by Arse Boss tomorrow. He'd better be positive, or I'll kick him in his overpaid slats.

motherinferior · 21/06/2016 11:08

Am I the only one secretly slightly hoping for a slats-kicking?

Friend has just told me she’s left her husband: he’s nice enough but she sounds v happy to have ditched him and says he was completely bonkers.

BTM, how awful for your colleague. Glad to hear Mr A is released into the wild. Beachy Flowers.

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 11:25

Me too MI!

Good luck with the carers Herbs.

CointreauVersial · 21/06/2016 13:16

No, BTM, DS didn't look at Sociology any more carefully than he looked at Psychology. Apart from PE and Biology (which he's pretty clear about as regards course content etc) he has pretty much gone "umm, that sounds nice, yeah" and that's it. He knows absolutely nothing about what's involved in Psychology A level, and refuses to do any reading or research into it; he was forced to choose a 4th subject, and that was the least worst option. Personally, I think he will hate it.

Film Studies he really fancies because there's a fair amount of actual practical film-making included. This fits with his fantasy career of being a famous YouTuber. Hmm Yes, it also involves interpretation/essays (like Eng Lit, only films instead of books, obv), but he seems to think this will be OK. In truth, he has never liked reading (no son of mine), so he might find a visual media easier to interpret and analyse. I hope.

He's now moaning about PE, because he doesn't want to play football any more. Shock

Is he good at Maths? Not really. He'll get a B or C. If he doesn't get a B, the college won't let him do the Biology A level anyway.

He rejects the whole concept of BTECs because he's "better at exams than coursework". Hmm Won't contemplate anything vocational, as he's not interested, and is about as practical as his father a chocolate teapot.

Favourite subject? Doesn't have one. Doesn't really want to do anything next year, but that's not an option.

Honestly, it has been a nightmare getting him to engage in the whole process. On DH's recommendation, I'm giving him a few days to decompress after exams, then he will need to give it some serious thought.

Cremo · 21/06/2016 13:56

Cv that's so bloody difficult. Can I just ask why 4Alevels and not just 3? He could do Biology, PE and Film providing he gets his B in Maths. ( crossed everything for him) Then he has the option to follow a couple of paths through towards a career/ apprenticeship/foundation course.
He doesn't need to be setting career goals just now. but some practical/paid work experience would do him a lot of good over the summer.it might focus him a bit more. ( local fil company / gym / PT)
Fwiw I did a Btec before my degree, and it was well respected in my discipline ( Theatre Design and Production)

I would just like another job please. I suspect I would have to retrain to be a travel agent, but Lalsy, I would love that.Wink
BD I feel for you. it's like the walls coming in , just a little closer , every day.
I am still really down.Fed up with everything. Is this my 50th birthday wobble?

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 13:59

He doesn't want to play footy any more, CV?Shock I wonder if this will happen to DS?

I agree - let him relax for a bit before you try to get him to think. Have you got any friends with DC in Y12/13 who could come over for dinner or something when they could start talking about their A'levels?

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 14:01

Cremo, sorry you are feeling wobbly. You would make a fantastic travel agent, or indeed anything - do you really need training for it? Will PM you my email now!

Lalsy · 21/06/2016 14:13

Crem, you so would be. And you write gorgeous yet informative descriptions of places that have me reaching for my wallet.

CV, very tricky. He may be able to think more clearly after decompression. Neither of my dc especially wanted to do four subjects BUT dd gave up one she thought she would keep, and ds looks like doing the same - so the flexibility can be good.

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 14:37

CV, when would he drop the fourth and would he get a qualification in it?
I am hoping it's just 3 for DS as AS levels will no longer exist, so doing a year of one wouldn't lead to a qualification?
In my friends' DD's school (good rep), they only do 3 unless they are very cleverConfused

hattymattie · 21/06/2016 16:21

Well - Physics well and truly fucked up because DD2 and apparently many many others did not realise that to measure the mass of the planet Tatooine - you had to use the photo from the movie and it was not just there as an illustration. What a bunch of fuckers! She said I could have done it if I'd realised. Also this was the starter question and several other questions depended on getting this one.

Crem - you need to be a travel blogeuse and make millions. Here, warm but still overcast - haven't seen the sun in weeks.

In interesting observations of the day - had lunch with some of the teachers and was astonished to see a colleague salting her pizza, a thing I consider to be already majorly salt loaded. Obviously not everybody is borderline hypertention.

Addle - glad your DH is up and about.

Cremo · 21/06/2016 16:38

Oh ffs Hatty, thats just completely duplicitous. I loathe when they do that. And also try to verify their 'trendiness' by using Star Wars ( geddit? GEDDIT?) references.
So sorry for dd2. Gah!

Sorry for rantGrin

hattymattie · 21/06/2016 17:36

Thanks for the sympathy rant Crem - I only hope that there's maybe a backlash as a result of this. I'm not impressed by Star Wars refs either - although when I did physics it always seemed to be cricket based questions.

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 17:36

Oh no HattyShock Surely if it's a common erreur they will take action in some way?

hattymattie · 21/06/2016 18:00

Not sure BTM. French exams seem to consist of two or three big questions so breadth of knowledge is not really tested. As a result, it's very difficult to recover if you get a bit wrong. No multiple choice questions - all big problem solving things.

CointreauVersial · 21/06/2016 18:35

Oh Hatty - that sounds awful. Poor DD2. Sad I really feel for them because there's nothing one can do.

BTM - all of DS's A level subjects will be "reformed", so, although he may or may not take AS levels, the results won't count towards his A levels. Both the school and the sixth form college recommend four; the assumption is they drop one after a year. AS levels will continue, apparently, but just as stand-alone qualifications, and some schools may drop them completely.

Anyway, I'm going to put the subject to bed for a week or so, as I can't waste any more energy worrying about it until DS decides to get his head around it all. He's so different from me - I researched it all, weighed up the options and permutations etc.....

Current Hot Topic in these parts at the moment is the story of that young 19yo lad who tried to shoot Donald Trump in Las Vegas. He went to the DCs' school and was brought up here, so lots of people knew him and his family. What was going on in his head? CNN were outside the school when I drove past.....

hattymattie · 21/06/2016 19:23

Exactly CV - I feel so helpless. Very difficult for you as well when they won't take control and you know they should be doing so.

Maybe shooting Trump might not have been such a bad thing. Have not seen much about this on the French news.

motherinferior · 21/06/2016 19:34

In other news today's supper involves tofu. This may be a vegan step too far. I will report back.

CointreauVersial · 21/06/2016 19:53

Sorry MI, I seem to be otherwise engaged this evening, so you'll have to enjoy your tofu alone. Wink

Actually, I'm eating a vegan dinner myself, as it happens. Courgetti, with a home-made avocado pesto. DH hates it, but he's in Geneva at the moment, so I can eat what I like. Tomorrow, chicken liver salad, heh heh.

herbaceous · 21/06/2016 19:59

I need to lose half a stone by Friday night, so I can get in my VW dress for DP's party. Consequently I've just had half a bottle of cava and a Thai takeaway.

Carer sorting seemed to go OK today. Leaving carer cried as she'd miss M&D so much. New carer seems v nice. Non-nonsense, but kind. Though it did occur to me that as I hadn't had any paperwork about her that it might all be a massive scam and she would run off with the silver. When I arrived mum was all spry, and walking about without her frame. When I left she was in bed moaning about pain and swigging morphine. Crumbs.

motherinferior · 21/06/2016 20:24

Oh Herbs, here's hoping with the carers. I too need to drop half a stone - can't help wondering if one of the things in my head preventing this, though, is the memory of my mum looking literally like a famine victim in her last weeks. Or it could, more prosaically, be just eating and drinking. At least I'm back to Ladyjogging.

CV, I bloody love chicken livers. The tofu was as expectedWink.

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 20:35

CV that's what DDs school are doing this year, but it varies widely round here! Even at DDs school DC dropped one before now, so maybe he could do that if he needs.
Oh no re the Trump boy - I saw if briefly and just caught that it was Dorking but thought it must be one in the US. News said he "suffered from Aspergers" hardly the most PC way of putting it. And it's a shame he didn't actually get him!

I too need to lose half a stone at least but I hate chicken (or indeed any) liver.Grin

I am home-alone watching an EU debate Angry

GiddyGiddyGoat · 21/06/2016 20:40

It is very hard to listen to I think BTM. Making me want to scream. It's like Trump - starts off sounding like a bad joke and suddenly the madness is real. Bloody Hell. if the result is we should leave we're all going to hell in a handcart...

motherinferior · 21/06/2016 20:45

I'm going to read a novel I am reviewing for an Indian mag (long story).

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2016 20:46

The Labour party rang earlier and she was so so pleased when I said we are both in. Given the number of Guardian readers here, I would have thought our area was pretty safely in. And DD proudly told us yesterday that her friends grandad had decided to switch and vote In following her vigorous discussion with him Smile
