I hope I have remembered the chosen title correctly - I have used Crem's title (think it was Crem's) as the old thread is full.

Herbs - will be fab to have lots of time en famille in the summer but eek re new job on horizon.

Inspired by CV and Rose I have put 10 things on Ebay. They range from size 10 to 16. WTF.

Herbs, I am very good at application letters.

Or we can apply for a job-share. Seriously.

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2016 19:07

DH is looking for an English teacher I think. Would be 'oardes of 'orrible teens though!

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2016 19:08

Not too far from you thoughWink

herbaceous · 12/06/2016 19:38

I'm not sure I could cope with teenagers. I volunteered in one English class, and it was hellish. Yelling across the room, throwing pens, shoving tables, going to sleep on the desks, no-one ever having a pen, etc etc...

Stropperella · 12/06/2016 19:56

Gah, I can't keep up with the thread anymore. I don't appear to have sat down since Friday night and have still not managed to do all sorts of important things. Where did the weekend go, eh?

Beachy, one day I shall make it to your lovely summer event. So sorry I couldn't come this year and even sorrier that I appear not to have even acknowledged your invite.

MrsS, I hope you will have a hospital-free month in August. Very sorry to hear about your dislocated toe. Very ouchy, that must be.

I found out a strange and wonderful thing yesterday: I can drink gin again! I had my first G&T in 32.5 years and appear to have finally got over the hangover from my 18th birthday. Most excellent. I managed to develop an actual allergy to juniper after downing an entirely unwise amount of gin that one evening, and used to come out in hives if juniper oil came into contact with my skin. This was def still the case in my late 30s, so I had just avoided juniper in all forms. Recently, I purchased some moisturiser and didn't read the ingredients well enough, failing to spot that juniper was somewhere on the list. I used it for a couple of weeks before I realised what was in it and then was happy to note that I had not developed hives or any other symptoms. And as my mother recently told me that I should drink lots of tonic water to deal with cramp, I felt this was a SIGN and I should purchase a small trial half bottle of Gordons. I even like the smell again. And it doesn't even give me a red face. And the quinine and a squeeze of lime and some fresh mint make it virtually a health tonic, right?

motherinferior · 12/06/2016 19:58

Absolutely, Stropps. Trust me, I'm a health journalist.

My teenager just told me I was "over-dramatic"GrinGrin

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2016 20:12

Stropps, that's fantastic news! Yay for the G&T's (been my favourite drink for many years!)

herbaceous · 12/06/2016 20:16

I found a 'gin and tonic' smelling perfume in Boots the other day. Naturally, I thought of the crepeys.

MI - what could we job share as? Is there a good wage for drinking too much and sitting about Being Right?

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2016 20:18

I got G&T bath stuff in the Secret Santa, Herbs!

Stropperella · 12/06/2016 20:32

Blimey, another G&T bonus - drinking just one makes me feel a teensy bit nauseous. Not enough to feel properly ill, but enough so that I don't want a second drink. Bloody marvellous stuff. Tasty and self-limiting at one drink, who could ask for more?

Collymollypuff · 12/06/2016 20:34

All Crepeys should be able to get jobs in Being Right, since we always infallibly are.

A quick question for past and present Parisiennes, if I may? Would you say our Santander bike scheme (formerly Barclays/Boris bikes) is a direct copy of the Paris Velib scheme? The docking stations etc look the same; inspired by Velib, surely, if not directly emulated?

Rosebag · 12/06/2016 20:35

Herbs you are dealing with so much at the moment. Trying to sort your DParents out, your career, DP's work sitch, his poor DM and let's not forget looking after mini herbs. I don't think it's reasonable to expect yourself to make progress on all fronts simultaneously. I think my working life was at an all time low whilst I was dealing with DDad, and DH's redundancy. Flowers Sometimes you just have to tread water for a bit. altho' I must say, a job share with the wonderful MI sounds such fun

MrsS your poor wounded soldier. Can't minimise the pain of a stubbed toe. Bloody agony. Flowers

Beachy and addle so happy the weekend went well!

Stropps good for you. As Crepeys know I am pretty much a non drinker, but the occasional G&T is one of life's biggest pleasures Grin

Dossy, shlumpy, headachey day peppered with directives to various teen beasties to Go And Do Some Revision. Got persuaded to go to DM for tea this afternoon. She's not in bad form, really. I am now trying to persuade DH away from the footie to watch a film on Amazon Prime. Hmm

motherinferior · 12/06/2016 20:37

Well, we could do stuff of a journalistic and editing nature...think about it!

herbaceous · 12/06/2016 20:51

I am already cogitating, MI!

motherinferior · 12/06/2016 20:59

And/or training.

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2016 22:20

Just back from a lovely meal out to celebrate a) DH's birthday last Friday, b) DD1's birthday tomorrow, and c) DD2's imminent departure for Normandy. Everyone was on top form, with much hilarious banter - one of those occasions when you just adore your family. Now we're home, I'm trying to get DS to do a bit more revision, without much success. DD2 really should be in bed already, as she has to be up at 5am, but is still faffing about packing.

Speaking of gin & tonic, I saw this divine-sounding cake mentioned on another thread. Worth a try?? It would be my version of a "store cupboard" cake, because I'm guaranteed to have those ingredients in stock.

Beachy - your camp out sounds excellent. One day.....

Lalsy · 12/06/2016 23:00

Stropps, that is marvellous news. I look forward to downing one gin, just the one, with you.

Herbs, you are dealing with a lot, as other crepeys have recently, can't focus on everything at once.

MrsS, good reason to spend at least some of August lounging somewhere quiet in a nice big space, no hazards?

Beachy, it all sounds lovely. CV, what a treat - teens are the best when on form.

Here, dd is back and ds finishes exams tomorrow so I can start hassling him about things. Hurrah!

Cremo · 12/06/2016 23:16

Ooh get you two. I betty bet bet you are on to something!

All quiet in The Big Auntie house after a fraught day with The Student.
Can't bear to talk about it on here. Suffice to say all now in hand. Am utter emotional wreck though. Sad as well.
She goes back to "her real life" (sic) tomorrow. I am back to square one of despair and powerlessness.

Collymollypuff · 12/06/2016 23:26

Sorry to hear that, Crem. Have a big hug from me. {{{{{{}}}}}}}} We are still doing exams here, grrrr.

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2016 23:40

Oh Crem. Sad Your lovely girl will come back.....she will, she will. It may take a while, though.

DH has fallen asleep during the Grand Prix! This is unheard of; it's his favourite thing in the whole world. He sleeps so much. His bedtime gets earlier and earlier, and mine gets later and later. I can foresee before long we'll cross on the stairs as he gets up and I'm off to bed.

Blackduck · 13/06/2016 06:07

Oh Cremo so very very sorry :(. CV is right you will get her back, it just might take some time.

bigTillyMint · 13/06/2016 06:39

Oh Cremo, so sorry to hear thatSad The others are right - it IS just a phase and she will come through Flowers

Crem, darling, just keep remembering that this is her stuff - and that sadly the excellent parenting job you have done means that you are the safe space where she can take all this out. FlowersFlowersFlowers

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/06/2016 08:12

Crem, so sorry to hear that DD is being a nightmare, but I promise it will get better. Much better to go through this phase now than when she is older. My cousin decided, aged 50 that her parents were to blame for everything that had gone wrong in her life - you know, like her divorce, the fact that she had sold her house, ploughed all the money into a business that had "Doomed To Failure" written all over it and the fact that she had never been able to hold down a job for more than five minutes. Her sister, who had been an utter nightmare in her teens and early 20s got back on track mid 20s - much better that way round.

CV, I don't wish to alarm you, but has your DH had a medical check up lately?
