I hope I have remembered the chosen title correctly - I have used Crem's title (think it was Crem's) as the old thread is full.

Herbs - will be fab to have lots of time en famille in the summer but eek re new job on horizon.

Inspired by CV and Rose I have put 10 things on Ebay. They range from size 10 to 16. WTF.

Herbs, I can relate to those feelingsSad

Surely you can up the care to 24 hours if necessary on the weekend? However, this will obvs be £££ and perhaps not even a medium-term solution.

If you come over to this thread there are lots of lovely, knowledgeable people who could advise?

MontserratCaballe · 11/06/2016 09:32

Herbs darling, huge hugs xxxx

sending you Flowers Herbs.

herbaceous · 11/06/2016 10:04

I do need a hug. Sweet old dad. He has moments of clarity, when he says how grateful he is and gives me a lovely old 'dad' smile.

Sad
NUFC69 · 11/06/2016 10:37

Oh, Herbs, what a mess. Strength and hugs to you. And how heart breaking for you when your DF is briefly back to his normal self. My experience of care is from 20 plus years ago, so of no use to you, I am afraid.

BTM, how is DS today? Awful experience for them.

CV, I wish with regard to the lounging about outside - you forget that I live in the frozen north. Yesterday we ended up with the heating on mid afternoon. DH says the temperature today is 14 degrees C, and it's mizzling, so no gardening or lounging.

The latest proposal for the BMW gearbox is that a local company take it out, send it to Preston for repair and then it is sent back to Newcastle to be replaced in the car. Hmm Man in Preston has the parts, but will not sell them to the local company. Now fed up with the whole thing, tbh.

Rosebag · 11/06/2016 11:08

Just racing in......to give herbs a huge, huge hug. So sorry. I know about those poignant moments of clarity and your comment made me cry. Flowers

AND to announce .... ....DD has just got her formal acceptance for her BTEC at the theatre starting Sept 1st. relief

Blackduck · 11/06/2016 11:12

Congrats RoseDD!

Herbs it is unutterably grim. When I get the occasional glimpse of mum it makes me cry - I have no idea how my dad is coping with it.

motherinferior · 11/06/2016 11:22

Congrats to the Rosebud.

Hugs to both BD and Herbs.

We have stopped for a cup of tea at a pub which has several signs saying BAD LANGUAGE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED which is making me want to swear loudly.

herbaceous · 11/06/2016 11:26

Thank you all so much mes crepes. It's very isolating, isn't it. Mum is now home, and in reasonably good spirits. She has great friends. Who have rallied round and collected her from the hospital, etc, but are pretty fierce and obv feel I haven't done enough.

Currently debating whether to set up a bed downstairs for mum. There are many factors. The only one I can move on my own is a camp bed, which is too low for her. Dad would have to be with her, otherwise he gets confused. Frankly I'm tempted to leave them in their own bed upstairs...

Cremo · 11/06/2016 11:26

Shit Herbs, how appallingly difficult. I would be in bits. It can't go on like this , my friend. Or you will be driven mad. Can you take 5mins with dsis and try and make a new plan.? Employ all night carers as required this week to help get you through.? And also for after your mums operation for a while? It is not unreasonable to need to have a nights sleep. So sorry Herbs.Sad

Dd is here. It hasn't been much fun really. She has shaved her head, and this has really upset poor dad who thinks she looks like , well you can imagine , given his Jewish background. Dps turned up yesterday to take her out for posh lunch. That went well, not.
She is sadly in revolutionary mode and Dh and I are cowering and trying not to react. (Inner screaming ) Sad

herbaceous · 11/06/2016 11:30

Formulating new plan, to involve overnight carers this week. It's like juggling 12 balls, spinning plates and keeping a lid on emotions while really missing my mum, dad, DP and baby boy all at the same time.

I'm going to browse Corsica holidays while they're dozing...

bigTillyMint · 11/06/2016 11:46

Oh Cremo, that sounds really tricky - I am currently still reeling from a snappy DD yesterday and the ensuing row, but that is small-fry compared. We must keep chanting "it is a phase"Smile

Rose, glad your DD is sorted.

NU, thanks - DS seems to be back on form and is very much looking forward to going round to a mates to watch the England match this evening!

Herbs, glad DM is back and friends are rallying - I totally get the guilt feelings too. Re bed, if she is able to get upstairs, then surely that will be fine? If not, can you get some brawn to help you sort a bed downstairs?

NUFC69 · 11/06/2016 11:49

Herbs, tough re bed. Not wishing to add more to your shoulders, my guess is that DM will have been given a series of exercises to do. It is essential for her that she does them regularly because long term a mobile DM will be better for her (and you and DSis). Was she given a blue ice bandage for her knee? Just goes in the freezer for a while and then you fasten around the knee. I found it really helped with the swelling. Incidentally I have an appointment with the GP on Monday about doing my other knee.

Well done to DD, Rose. I think that deserves a celebration.

Crem, it's National Gin Day today - will that help? I must admit I am with DH about shaved heads (fortunately DS's foray into that style only lasted a short while). Thinking about you.

herbaceous · 11/06/2016 13:03

She has a blue ice bandage thing, and exercises. She has a physio coming in on Tuesday. I have her some morphine patches.

She's so sleepy I can't discuss any of this with her.

I have spent a lot of today so far clearing up shit. Literally.

Sorry about shaven-headed prodigal, crem. Sounds sub-optimal.

Auriga · 11/06/2016 13:08

Only one piece of advice Herbs - don't do anything that risks injuring your back. I'm still incapacitated after more than 8 weeks. Can't lift anything (even the kettle) bend or drive.

Call the district nurses, the agency, the ambulance, rather than attempt any unsafe lifting yourself.

Collymollypuff · 11/06/2016 13:15

Very good advice there, Auriga. Look after yourself, Herbs - it is hell.

herbaceous · 11/06/2016 13:33

Mum pre morphine: (wanly) 'I wonder if I'll ever feel like eating again.'

Post morphine and a nap: 'any chance of some lunch round here?'

addle · 11/06/2016 14:09

Drugs can be a wonderful thing Herbs.

Herbs and BD - so sorry . i miss my dps very much and my ddad didn't have an easy time of it but what you are all going through is so sad

Auriga - 8 weeks - can you do anything for it?

Congrats Rose on dd and dress

Molly - well done on walk

Nu - hope consult on knee goes well

Busy marinading chicken etc before heading south chez Beachy

Lalsy · 11/06/2016 14:19

Crem, that sounds no fun, horribly conflicting as well when they bring upset home with them.

Herbs, morphine is great. I hope you can get more care sorted. All so grim.

herbaceous · 11/06/2016 15:15

I think I might have some morphine too.

herbaceous · 11/06/2016 15:19

"Some grapes would be nice."

Escaped for a walk while carer was here, and saw cheering meadow full of buttercups, and three cygnets. Them bought myself some £6 shades from Dotty P. Little things.

motherinferior · 11/06/2016 15:20

I spent quite a lot of time trying to work out if I could siphon off some morphine.

Herbs, I will do my best to help sort backup on Monday - sorry I can't before then.

We are ensconced in B&B which aims for country house vibe. Rather posh and an interesting sociological experiment not least because of the vast VOTE LEAVE banner as we came in, which makes me want to ask in Peter Sellers mode if they have a Rheum, and whether we can pay with euros.

hattymattie · 11/06/2016 16:03

MI - have a lovely weekend.

Congrats to Rosebud. Such a relief when they get to go where they want to.

Crem - I'd find shaved head upsetting. I thought that went out with punk. The LGT group at DD's Uni content themselves with dying their hair blue - I suppose like that they can spot each other.

We are devoid of children so we are gardening like an old crepey couple.

Herbs - thinking of you.

CointreauVersial · 11/06/2016 16:27

Oh Herbs, your poor thing. The sooner you get the carer cover sorted the better. I'm guessing DM is pretty bed-bound at the moment? Maybe postpone decisions on bed-moving until she starts moving about, and see how safe she is on the stairs? Then seek assistance for furniture-shifting!

Rose - what a relief about DD's BTEC! So pleased for her. DS's future rests with his results. He has done virtually no revision in the last two days - this morning he was working in the bakery, and "Mum, you don't understand how exhausting it is doing exams - I'm too tired to revise". Not too tired to watch crappy YouTube videos, though. Hmm

Crumbs, Crem - she sounds very confrontational at the moment.

MI - I've just been catching up on the under-age drinking thread. Very amusing, with one poster accusing another of being a "flat earth type" and - BLAM - being blasted away by a tidal wave of scientific analysis from someone who was clearly a medical science expert. Doh!

Just sent DH out on a mercy mission to find some Euro for DD2. She's off to Normandy early doors on Monday, and I completely forgot all about spending money. Blush I think the Exchange kiosk at Asda is still open. Otherwise, how am I going to get my Normandy cider and posh chocolates?

WAF - just watching an old episode of Come Dine With Me, and you sprung to mind. Wink

herbaceous · 11/06/2016 17:30

Mum is in fact moderately mobile, with a frame. No less mobile, in fact, than before her op. She was out in the garden a while ago, which involved a number of steps. Bed will be moved tomorrow, by sis and A Man.

On my escape, I also bought some herbal nytol, bach rescue remedy and some earplugs. I SHALL get some sleep tonight!

Rather terrified by the prospect of the Brexiters winning. I read somewhere that even if we leave the EU, to stay in the common market we'd have to still have free movement of people, ie immigration of Forrens. So their main reason for wanting to leave will still be there, and we'll have Boris as prime minister.

Another thought - surely, as immigrants generally contribute more to the economy than they take, and pay tax,, this tax should be going towards more schools, doctors, etc. It's how tax is spent that's the problem - not the Forrens.
