I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it

Today is an Xmas gift from my DM. On paper, it should work. It's a dark and flowery dress - scuba material, and I tend to love anything floral

In reality, it rides up with every step I take and the armholes are funny

It's gone after today!

Anybody else want to join me?

Wearing an ancient Laura Ashley skirt today - plain light grey denim with lots of vertical panels, long, fitted to the knee then flares out to just above the ankle - I'd forgotten how flattering the shape is! So glad I didn't turf it during a recent clear-out. Worn with a blue camisole & a cowl-neck blue & grey Phase 8 top - looked great!

Not sure about the shoes though - Gabor ballet flats - slightly sparkly black with a bow - they're sort of clumpy in a delicate way & slap down with a bang when I walk. I've never really liked them. I think they're on their way out, although I might keep them for a bit for work.

Great thread, thanks!

I wore a blue tweedy Nicole Farhi jkt (much nicer than it sounds) bought at a school jumble sale a few years ago with black trousers to work yesterday. Jkt was great but the top I wore under it was not - too baggy and despite being ironed looked scruffy. Has to go because even though there are things about it I like, I'm not sure what they are, really. And it's slightly too big.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 27/05/2016 09:22

So far so good! I am wearing a blue H+M viscosey T-shirt (better than it sounds) which hasn't seen the light of day for ages. Too low cut so I have a navy vest on with it. I haven't worn it because I normally have it untucked with jeans and my fat ass hips stick out too much for it to hang nicely.
However today has shown me that if I tuck it in to black work trousers it works a treat. The colour really suits me so it is back in circulation!

trev 1 wardrobe NIL. Take that! Grin

I've got some very faded cropped navy jeans on today. They are scraggy and not really my style anymore, but might be useful for slobbing. I'm undecided. They are also not clean, which is good to know... Smile

CointreauVersial · 27/05/2016 13:27

I have dug out a lacy-knit cream cotton jumper from H&M. I'm not sure why I haven't worn it, probably because it was buried at the back of a drawer - out of sight, out of mind.

It only works for "in-between" weather; it is full of holes but it does need a vest top underneath. I saw someone yesterday looking nice in a cream jumper and olive-green trousers, so I'm copying that colour scheme and wearing my jumper with pale green Gap cropped chinos. Looks nice and relaxed for Casual Friday in the office - will wear again.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 27/05/2016 13:35

Sounds lovely cointreau

FrustratedFrugal · 27/05/2016 13:40

I'm wearing the top part of the outfit I rejected the other day, a navy blue peplum top, paired with favorite staples (a lovely COS skirt, Stylesnob jeweled flats, and a Burberry jacket). It works and feels comforable! I will definitely wear this again, will keep the item.

Miffyandme · 27/05/2016 14:14

I am a sporadic visitor to this thread but I like the idea. I have actually made a charity bag already of things that no longer suit me, or were too small even before I had children! My shape has totally changed so I think I just need to accept that.
I tried on one nice looking top I had from white stuff and it didn't even make the nursery run - it was so tight across the chest I thought it would pop open.

TobleroneBoo · 27/05/2016 16:41

Well I have had a mare today!
Chose my thick shiny leggings ( which sound gross but aren't, I can get away with them as work trousers)
Put on a white top with scallop hem which was see through, so vest underneath. Thought it looked ok but throughout the day I just kept getting bogged down with my appearance. Had a proper look in the toilet mirror, and if I hadn't known better I would have said I was about 5 months pregnant. My boobs have totally changed shape and the top top was tight across my belly! I ditched it and just stuck with the vest which worked, but I still felt massively deflated ( mentally, certainly not physically) but I suppose that's the point of the thread.

Also listening to your combos is inspiring. I wear the same shoes and cardigan every day, only the dress or skirt/top changes. I need to include different cardigans and shoes etc I think!

Wore a pair of Zara chinos to work with a Breton top. Kept getting told I look French.

Now wearing gap charcoal coloured silky jogging bottoms that gather at the ankles, with ribbed pale grey vest from tesco (love this so much I may buy another) and a white slouchy v neck linen t shirt over.

Like everything today. Smile

whirlygirly · 27/05/2016 17:08

Toblerone, don't fret, just get rid of the top. I tried on some metallic t shirts in mint velvet the other day which were the least flattering things I've ever put on. Another brand of the same idea looked fab.

It's the top, not you. Wink

TobleroneBoo · 27/05/2016 17:13

Ah thanks whirly, and your today's outfits both sound lovely!

Thought I'd try two forgotten and unappreciated items today:

Firstly, black skinny coated jeggings - I was pleased to find these still fitted me. I used to wear them for nights out, until they became a bit "Loose Women on a Hen Do"; I now think they are better dressed down with trainers and a long-ish top.

To wear on top I dug out a blue and white striped longline shirt from Autograph - another charity shop purchase. It is super-sheer, so has to be worn with a vest under. But I barely made it through breakfast before I had to change - I didn't like the way you can see where the vest stops, and the sleeves felt tight and sweaty. I have so many nicer shirts, so it will go to eBay, and I'm now wearing a beautiful olive green lyocell shirt I bought earlier in the year from New Look.

drspouse · 28/05/2016 14:58

3 dresses in the last three days (work travel, hot place). 2 Boden sheath style that were just right, today it's a stretchy Pepperberry floral thing which is also comfy and smart enough.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/05/2016 15:06

Good idea.

I wear practically the same things all the time. Got rid of a load of stuff to the charity shop last week, so there isn't a lot left other than stuff I know I'll wear, but will try it with the few things I was undecided about!

Today -

black Autograph skinnies - love these, live in them, have three pairs!

grey t-shirt from Mint Velvet - I love this on the hanger but not so much on me. The fabric is a bit weird and the hem curls up. It also makes my boobs look much bigger than I'd like them to. Will keep it though because a) it was quite expensive and b) I like it so much without me inside it!

grey leather biker - Mint Velvet - love it.

Black and white leather Converse - live in them.

Grey felt fedora - Whistles - I might look a bit crazy in it, but I still really like it.

EquinoxBloom · 28/05/2016 17:02

"Loose Women On A Hen Do"

I know exactly what you mean Grin

Today I've thrown out some trousers which I had been meaning to get rid of, and a silky top which I thought would be a safe bet and I actually couldn't get my boobs into.

I've almost filled a bag now....

CointreauVersial · 28/05/2016 18:04

Whirlygirly - I like the sound of yesterday's silky joggers.

Paramiribella · 28/05/2016 20:09

Marking my place as I've just capsuled my wardrobe and am enjoying hearing about your outfits.

whirlygirly · 28/05/2016 20:39

Cointreau - the gap silky jogger things really are fab. Super flattering with elasticated drawstring waist (!) and gathered bits at the front but plain at the sides so they skim over the hips. I mostly wear them around the house but I'm going to wear them to travel on hols.

Today - 7 for all mankind relaxed skinnies, originally a grey 80's stonewashed effect from tk maxx (but I saw the potential and dyed them a deep slate grey and they're much better), another slouchy metallic linen tee and the trusty pewter metallic converse.

Chucked out a slouchy jumper in an unflattering camel shade. I don't think camel suits many people. Also some lipsticks. I never wear lipstick.

SapphireStrange · 29/05/2016 13:37

I've missed several days –just been too busy to pull anything out of the wardrobe except tried-and-testeds!

I did manage to do the experiment one day at work though –a T-shirt, black with white stripes and a small image of Little My in the breast pocket area. Hadn't worn it for about a year. Wore it to work with skinnies and ankle boots and a long-sleeved T underneath and am happy to report that I love it again/still!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2016 13:41

Today -

Black skinnies (clean ones, but also Autograph!)
Grey t-shirt - old M&S - I still like it but had to change my bra as the first one made me look very busty!
Grey cotton jacket thing - bought in an emergency for a holiday. I like the fact that it's cotton, but it's not v flattering and I'll probably get rid of it after this summer. It's useful but not v nice.

Miffyandme · 30/05/2016 11:00

I wore a sleeveless white stuff top from last year around the house for a bit today, I like the fit and colour but it as a hole that I think is in a spot too tricky to repair easily so it's going.

SapphireStrange · 30/05/2016 12:23

Wearing a pink long-sleeved top today that was crumpled at the bottom of a drawer full of long-sleeved tops.

It's a bit of a wide boxy fit for me. I think I'll keep it though as it's a nice colour and is fine to wear under things (today it's under a chunky cardigan, which minimises the boxy look of the fit.)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/05/2016 16:34

Today =

pale wash skinnies from M&S - I still like them, but they are harder to wear than black ones
longline white cotton boyfriend shirt - I like this too, but it creases like buggery and I felt scruffy and horrible after half an hour or so. :(
