Ok, be honest. Are white jeans awful?

Every summer I covet a pair of white jeans to hopefully look like this photo. I can never seem to find them. I order lots of pairs online but they all seem to be baggy on the back of my thighs and look really frumpy! I'm usually a size 10 but have a big womanly bottom so maybe that's my problem.
Am I deluded? Are white jeans really naff? Think I've lost all confidence with clothes since turning 40!
Any advice from you stylish people gratefully received.

In my mind white jeans = Liz Hurley.

kelper · 13/05/2016 14:18

Id love to be able to wear whitd jeans but a combo of ds, dh and the dog would render them filthy in minutes :(

gingerbreadmanm · 13/05/2016 14:19

check river island, always the best jeans i find.

i love white jeans but sadly am too overweight fat for them.

Nabootique · 13/05/2016 14:20

For me it would depend on what they were worn with. If it was sort of checked shirt/t shirt casual then I would like them. We are talking skinny jeans only, are we? Any other kind, no I don't think so. Having said all this, I would never wear them myself as I am a filth magnet.

Whathaveilost · 13/05/2016 14:20

I've seen them on quite a few people of various ages, from teens to 50's in the last couple of weeks. They have looked fabulous on them but sadly they look dreadful on me.

NoSpamPam · 13/05/2016 14:21

No white jeans are chic I just don't know how u can keep them clean

charliethebear · 13/05/2016 14:21

I'm not a massive fan of white jeans unless on someone very tall and slim. And you need to maintain the crisp whiteness which is basically impossible. You would never be able to sit down, they would get dirty. In theory they could look nice but in practice I always think they end up looking grey. Sorry

NoSpamPam · 13/05/2016 14:22

River islands jeans r da bomb

LadyAntonella · 13/05/2016 14:22

I like them (but I'm not terribly stylish). I wouldn't wear them dressed up (massive stilettos and big gold jewellery) personally as I find it a bit too much for my tastes. The photo you posted is quite nice, (other than the colour of the shoes - I am the only person I know who can't stand white trainers)!

JohnCheese · 13/05/2016 14:23

I love white jeans! Liz Hurley maybe, don't care, I love them. I also have a womanly bottom. Every year I try to find a decent pair of white jeans, but the sad news is I've failed. I love Gap girlfriend jeans on me, so the white version are my next try on.

Love white jeans.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 13/05/2016 14:23

I have white jeans. They look fine, I think, I get complimented on them.

I'm an 8 with no bum, though, so I don't think my old faithfuls would fit you too!

I also have no children so keeping them white is probably significantly easier. You have to change as soon as they look grubby.

LostAtTheFair · 13/05/2016 14:23

I think that they can look fantastic but they need a fairly lean set of pins, a covered bum and the right shoes. the example in your picture is (IMO) very stylish. I'm not sure how people think that wearing black leggings under summer dresses is ok but that white jeans are a no go!

squoosh · 13/05/2016 14:28

I think it would be quite stressful wearing white jeans. I'd be like the shrillest of shrews shrieking 'don't touch me' at random people walking past me on the street and I'd constantly be checking out my bum's reflection in mirrors and shop windows to make sure there weren't any mortifying stains on my womanly botty.

Wellhellothere1 · 13/05/2016 14:29

Yes I think of Liz Hurley too! But I love her so that's ok Grin
I'll have a look at River Island ginger. I'm starting to think they shouldn't be worn in anyone over a size 6....

Ah but you're assuming those who don't like white jeans do like leggings under dresses.

DameXanaduBramble · 13/05/2016 14:35

White jeans with an oversize Breton top is such a lovely look for summer.

bigkidsdidit · 13/05/2016 14:36

I love them. J have a coat identical to that pic too so I might try it this year if I can find a good pair

RickOShay · 13/05/2016 14:37

I also love white jeans, but have not worn them for years due to small dc. Have been eyeing them up again, but feel I am pushing it slightly at 48. Still might.

gingerbreadmanm · 13/05/2016 14:41

river island had some lovely pink molly ones on the other day i may have to purchase to relive my youth a bit!

SaigonSaigon · 13/05/2016 14:41

I love mine. I'm 40 and size 10 and currently have a pair of last year's M&S Autograph ones which are ankle skimmers and fairly skinny. I wear with Breton tops or rather specifically, navy coloured things (or light grey). They do only last 1 or 2 wears before getting dirty, but that's alright. I accept that. I feel summery wearing them!

squoosh · 13/05/2016 14:43

Alexa Chung wears white jeans so maybe she's trying to de-Liz them.

MrsCampbellBlack · 13/05/2016 14:44

Love them and find it very easy to keep them clean

Frostycake · 13/05/2016 14:50

Having neither dog, husband, nor children, I love wearing white jeans.

Thankfully (thanks to Alavere) I now have a size 10 arse, long legs and a thigh gap so feel relatively confident. Being light skinned, light haired and light eyed though, I much prefer off-white and yes, they must be skinny.

I think if you keep the rest of your outfit quite plain and make sure you buy quality (so thick, non-see-through denim, cut & finished well) you can look amazing.

I love Liz Hurley! Grin

1moreglassplease · 13/05/2016 14:51

I bought two pairs from Next this year (am 47) and I love them. Only £20 each and a straight leg. Great fit.

I hate you.
