Ok, be honest. Are white jeans awful?

Every summer I covet a pair of white jeans to hopefully look like this photo. I can never seem to find them. I order lots of pairs online but they all seem to be baggy on the back of my thighs and look really frumpy! I'm usually a size 10 but have a big womanly bottom so maybe that's my problem.
Am I deluded? Are white jeans really naff? Think I've lost all confidence with clothes since turning 40!
Any advice from you stylish people gratefully received.

Deep into middle age and quite fond of a bit of tackiness but I enjoy chocolate too much to ever wear white.

YesOfCourseAlways · 13/05/2016 17:08

I love them, they are a classic. I wear them in winter too, with a navy pea coat and ankle boots.

I love white jeans esp relaxed skinny with flip flops and a silk shirt - my go to summer evening look. I'm 50.

I do keep them clean despite a chocolate labrador.

MrsCampbellBlack · 13/05/2016 17:19

I have I think 5 pairs of white jeans and even wore them when I had toddlers.

I also have short hair so am also middle aged/tacky/unsexy/given up according to some on mn Wink

Good job we all like different things.

Chipsahoy · 13/05/2016 17:37

Primark skinnies are only ones I've found that hug all the right places. I wear with navy blue or grey tops. Shoe wise, normally sandals or wedges

Doobigetta · 13/05/2016 17:49

I've got a real hankering for a pair of white trousers a la Wham. Cotton, slightly baggy, rolled to ankle length. This really would be unacceptable, wouldn't it?

bigTillyMint · 13/05/2016 17:51

I have some about 5 years old from George at Asda! They are still whiteShock

Ijustneedmycoffee · 13/05/2016 20:19

*KittyKrap those women of that 'certain age' you saw. I'm wondering roughly what age that might be?? 20? 40? 60?

Never knew there was an age limit on white jeans. Now I know

RickOShay · 13/05/2016 20:49

Well I feel inspired now. I bought a very pale grey pair of skinny jeans in Zara as I thought they would somehow help me stop wanting a white pair, but sod it I am going to get some. I have lots of soft grey tops, so I think I should be ok. Would definitely be going for the flip flop look.

FankEweVeryMuch · 13/05/2016 20:54

I follow the Frugality on Instagram and she recently posted a pic of herself in a pair from primary that looked nice from the weird angle photo here, I think they look great with pale blue cotton, not baby blue but chambray kind of colour.

foodiefil · 13/05/2016 21:14

frostycake 'alavere'? Is that aloe vera? Have you shit yourself to a thigh gap?

Don't do it on those white jeans darling Wink

I love white jeans in the summer!

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 13/05/2016 21:25

everysecondcounts are you saying white jeans are 'rank'? haha what's 'rank' about them? I have never ever seen anyone wear them and look rank. They always look really stylish and smart.

kelper · 13/05/2016 21:26

doobiegetta i might join you with the Wham! Trousers.... I'm getting of an age where I'm thinking fuck it to all sortd of things that used to worry me, bugger the dh,ds,ddog and all, I'm going to get some white trousers!! Thank you mumsnet :)

cressetmama · 13/05/2016 21:27

White jeans = instant glamour, as long as the top is carefully chosen and it's fine weather. I think they suit most people. Clean/new is good, but well washed is fine too. Preferably not with a breton stripe.

SansaClegane · 13/05/2016 21:46

Ok so what do you wear with white jeans?

I have a pair of skinny white Joules jeans that fit like a dream (though they are a bit see-throughy). Put them in this morning, couldn't find anything to go with them, took them off and chose something else instead.
So... Loose fitting? Light colours? Breton or no Breton?

Frostycake · 14/05/2016 00:47

No, I'm OK thanks Foodiefil

Definitely NOT Aloe Vera

It's a vair low carb diet that costs a bomb bloody works though

There's a Mumsnet thread and everything!

Got my first pair at 15 and have a new pair every year for 40 years. It wouldn't be summer without them. But this year lm struggling thinking that's it no more white jeans. They are so handy and l never had a problem keeping them clean. Saw a very pale grey pair the other day so might have to concede that my white jeans days are over not because of weight but age. Could never under why my dd has never had a pair or ant light coloured jeans really. They mark summer for me.

Kr1stina · 14/05/2016 07:57

No they're not awful! It depends how you wear them.

Skin tight and see through, with a crop top , stripper shoes , gold and fuschia accessories and a mahogany tan - yes they are awful .

But well cut, opaque, well fitting , with draped or loose casual tops in grey, blues, navy or a lovely sweater. And with low key shoes ( tan sandals, pumps, flip flops, plimsoles , loafers ) - they are cool and stylish .

It's got everything to do with style and nothing to do with age or even size. It doesnt hurt to be skinny and / or tall ( like Emmanuelle and Ines ) but it's not essential . I'm guessing no one on this thead is a model .

The people who say that everyone looks " tacky " are just lacking in imagination

kelper · 14/05/2016 08:04

kr1stina with that advice you make me feel that i could actually look a tiny bit stylish, thank you :)

Statelychangers · 14/05/2016 08:05

I love white jeans but my thighs are too large - hence I have never found a pair that suited me....I keep searching though!

WhereInTheWorldToNext · 14/05/2016 08:06

Love white jeans in the summer - perfect with a loose denim shirt or navy silk tee
