Adora I felt the same about white shirts. Love them but never wore them because of a) norks and b) stupendously pale skin.

But then last year I finally thought, 'Sod it'. I like them, so decided to buy some anyway and wear them despite tits and corpse-skin. I really enjoy wearing them now. For me the trick to get away with them is to wear more make up than usual and to wear either a blazer or a biker jacket on top, to cut down on the amount of white chest exposed.

They'll never be the thing that is most flattering on me, but I've decided I don't care now. I could do a lot worse, and I'd rather be in a white shirt, even if it's not my best look, than be going down the 'leggings and a nice tunic' path.

JackandDiane · 02/05/2016 15:41

agree - love shirts and feel great in them at work.

I'd love to be able to wear shirts, but I've got narrow shoulders and they are always too large. In fact, I find that 90% of shop-bought clothes in woven materials with a fitted shoulder are too large - shirts, jackets and coats are especially bad in this respect. With shirts the line of the neck is all wrong because the shoulder doesn't sit right. With coats and jackets the too-large shoulder is normally combined with too-long arms to give that attractive gorilla look.

This is one of the reasons I started learning how to make my own clothes. They may not be the most fashionable things ever, but at least they will fit. Today I'm wearing my silver stretch pencil skirt and a sculptural black neoprene top both of which I made. And they're both things that make me feel very happy.

niminypiminy · 02/05/2016 17:19

The top is a bit like this
The silver skirt is this one

niminypiminy · 02/05/2016 17:39

Nah - just felt like a bit of razzle dazzle in the skirt department.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 02/05/2016 17:53

That skirt is fabulous Niminy. Am so Envy of your clothes making skills. How hard is it? How did you learn?

JackandDiane · 02/05/2016 17:57

It's here But it's only in xs - I looked the other day as wanted to get a 2nd one.

niminypiminy · 02/05/2016 18:09

Giddy it's not that difficult, and this is a great time to learn. There are classes springing up all over the place and online tutorials too. I don't like the patterns this company does but their tutorials are excellent - The Maker's Atelier which designed the silver skirt pattern also does workshops if you're near Brighton. I'm really not expert at all but there are some really brilliantly patterns for beginners out there now designed by independent designers.

I've just ordered 3 dresses from Chi Chi London in the hope one is suitable as a bridesmaid dress.

This one
This one
and
This one

I was originally going to have this dress from Coast which I loved, but one of the other bridesmaids kicked off about wanting to wear blue (bride wants us all in different pastel shades) Hmm To make the bride's life easier (other bridesmaid is proving a tad high maintenance) I said I would find something else.

JackandDiane · 02/05/2016 18:21

oh god all of those dresses are my personal horror - bridesmaid or not. Would look like a toilet roll

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/05/2016 19:22

Floisme · 02/05/2016 22:52

No probs Jack Smile

Bloody love niminy's silver skirt.

Wore my new Whistles skirt today which I stalked for months till it came down to £50. Gives me a waist like Scarlett O'hara.

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 03/05/2016 09:19

Just bought this casual dress from Boden, but am looking for shoes to go with it. Lacking inspiration, so please help!

Also on the quest for summer shoes that aren't trainers or birkies. WDYR to these peep toe boots?

JohnCheese · 03/05/2016 10:14

Love that skirt Flo.
Nice trews Jack, but no belt loops. Can't be doing with no belt loops.

Still no bikini. Mustering up the courage....
