I picked up some white jeans in town and dd2 said that I'm far too grubby a person to even consider them and should get pale grey instead!

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 01/05/2016 19:00

Are we all going to be marching round in the Boden skirt and uniqlo tshirt winking at each other all summer?

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 01/05/2016 19:01

It will be like a young adult novel society will be split into ruche skirts vs cos radiology chic

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/05/2016 19:19

Remus - I do find that pale grey jeans can be a lot less flattering than white.

niminypiminy · 01/05/2016 19:34

OnlyHere it will be warring gangs of adult women wearing either ruched skirts or radiology uniforms with the heroic teenagers in their high waisted skinny jeans and crop tops actually running the world.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/05/2016 19:40

Mrs CB - I tried some pale grey on today (just the M&S jeggings ones) and they looked absolutely hideous. I might try some white, but she is definitely right re me being too grubby!

taybert · 01/05/2016 19:45

I mainly live near sheep. If they start on the boden/uniqlo combo then I'll ditch it. They won't though cos the broadband is crap.

roosterroo · 01/05/2016 19:53

I appear to have ordered the Orange skirt, helped by a glass or more of wine. Now thinking shoes isn't it going to be sunny on Saturday?

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 01/05/2016 20:03

We will defeat the teenagers by turning off the broadband

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/05/2016 20:07

Rooster Hope you like it. It really is gorgeous.

I bought old lady slippers today - black velvet. This is what I've become.

CointreauVersial · 01/05/2016 22:41

I'm with MrsCB on the white jeans bench. I wear mine all year round, and surprisingly they don't get grubby as quickly as you'd think.

Floisme · 02/05/2016 09:48

I'd def be in the ruched skirt gang but you can't make me wear that Uniqlo T shirt. Short sleeves are even worse than sleeveless - they end just where my arms start to flap.

JackandDiane · 02/05/2016 10:28

i bet they don't.

in the last few years i have made various resolutions:

  1. to not go on about weight to people - lose it or STFU ( luckily i am a pretty bog standard 12-14)
  2. not to mention age - even obliquely like ' in my day'. It gives people a chance to define you by your age.
  3. NOT TO APOLOGISE FOR YOUR BODY. Our bodies are wonderful wonderful things and so what if some bits aren't quite right - we are lucky to be alive

steps of soap box

J&D - You are so right.

I'm not going for the ruched skirt. There's still plenty of life in my Whistles ones (a bloody good job, as the stupid morons at Whistles HQ seem to have decided we don't need any more). I'm in the market for a short grey one though, if anybody sees one.

AdoraKiora · 02/05/2016 10:43

J&D, I am stealing your resolutions. Excellent!

White jeans. Please dont get me started. I have fallen for the 'Liz Hurley is 10 years older than me and looks amazing in them' thing every bloody summer for about 5 years. But I can never find a pair that flatter.

My dream white jeans would be thick, proper denim but with a bit of stretch. Mid-high waist that sucks in the slight mum tum. Flattering around the arse area.

They dont exist

MrsCampbellBlack · 02/05/2016 10:44

My topshop baxters from several years back are the bet white jeans ever. I luckily bought several pairs in a couple of sizes.

MuttonCadet · 02/05/2016 10:58

Next for the hits jeans, I loved them so much I bought two pairs.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 02/05/2016 11:04

Best thing about getting a bit older is giving up on shit that is never going to suit you. For me - not a minute more of my life will I waste trying on shirt dresses . No matter how slim I get I still look like a barrel. If you look good in white jeans good for you.

AdoraKiora · 02/05/2016 11:08

ha! OnlyHereForTheCamping

So true. I think I have given up on white jeans, to be honest. Shirts of any description are shocking on me, too. I have spent maybe a decade looking for that cruise, white work shirt that doesn't make me look like tits on a stick. No more!

AdoraKiora · 02/05/2016 11:08

*crisp white shirt

Floisme · 02/05/2016 11:15

I disagree with some of that Jack:

I mention my age if I think it's relevant; sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't but it's part of who I am and I don't see why I should hide it. If people are ignorant enough as to try and define me by my age then it's their problem, not mine. (It's also a chance to spot the knobheads.)

I don't apologise for my body - I think I'm very lucky. But I'm vain and I want to look as good as I can for as long as I can. I therefore look for clothes that flatter my body and I have my own personal style rules, which change as my body changes. These are my own rules - not those awful generalised age-related ones and I would never impose them on anyone else.

So back to clothes - unless anyone else wants the soapbox?

wiltingfast · 02/05/2016 12:03

Can I recommend massimo dutti white jeans? Bought s pair there 2y ago and they are remarkably flattering Grin

Mind you they are not for the v curvy. I'm fairly slim hipped think appley but they do suck in the tum...

Tanaqui · 02/05/2016 12:33

Best white jeans I ever had were new look hula- denim thick enough that you could wear any colour pants underneath! But they are slightly too big now, so have bought gap girlfriend and gap slim straight, am hoping they will be as good, but am pretty sure will need white or nude pants.

JackandDiane · 02/05/2016 15:35

yes - i didn't mean to criticise you F, pas de tout. Just women who moan about their heavy knees - its not going to change - just dress around them or learn to love the fuckers

I don't hide my age at ALL - just none of those shit jokes about ' when I grew up in the dark ages ' etc. I work with young people so its often relevant
