Go, MI.

More light relief: ideas for a short European break, crepey dears? Summer, simple/cheap to get to (as less than a week), good swimming essential. dd says it can be hot (above 16). If there are some major historical sites around, that'd be good too.

bigTillyMint · 13/04/2016 22:00

MI, turn on BBC now ! A programme called Normal for Norfolk Grin

motherinferior · 14/04/2016 07:02

Thinking of you, Monty Flowers

Cremo and BD sorry it's all so horrible

MI, my DB who is immensely kind, has a hectoring style in print, especially when worried. Agree with others about not taking it on but if she's going to be in touch a lot, could be worth mentioning

Rudy, def my style hero for making glamorous dresses work BOTH WAYS ROUND. genius. Know what you mean about the day job. My DH who has never, ever set foot in an office - knows of them only from managing bars and watching office party antics - has a magnificent set of suits and enjoys wearing them (or did until the moths hit)

DH away for two weeks and DD back at uni. It's vv peaceful

WAF, what are your face exercises? do they diminish permanently grumpy look?

Dreamqueen · 14/04/2016 08:49

Thanksfor Monty.

motherinferior · 14/04/2016 08:58

Lalsy, I liked our holiday in the Vendee.

Dreamqueen · 14/04/2016 09:14

Laisy. We used to go to Coulioure. Nice beach, plenty of stuff to visit and good public transport and flights there were not extortionate.

Blackduck · 14/04/2016 09:14

Oh bugger, my mum really is getting worse. V sick. And, of course, refusing to eat. Professionals are on the case. I'll see her tomorrow and go with her to her GP appt.

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/04/2016 09:50

FlowersCakeWine for Monty and MI.

MI - is it time for the hospice, do you think? Maybe just for a short stay?

DD2 is still in bed and shows little inclination to do anything today. Which is fine by me as AF has arrived with a vengeance, accompanied by pain that Nurofen won't touch, so am up for a little light reading by the pool under a shady tree.

In other news, DH has texted me to say that the oven has arrived. Our neighbour's flat has gone on the market for an eye watering price, particularly when you consider the state it's in.

Rosebag · 14/04/2016 09:52

MI Sad I wonder if she has an infection exacerbating everything. So sorry.

Lalsy We did a week on the Rock i.e. Gibraltar and I actually really liked it there. Small, easy to get around and plenty of history. Beaches weren't the most beautiful I'd ever seen but ok.( but i prefer the pool personally.,) Stayed here. Looks as though its been done up.

I am going to meet ConS for the morning and do some writing and research into Crowd Funding. I am quite wrecked after yesterday. DD didnt get in from the Drama practical exams until 10pm last night Shock I turned up at 8 to pick her up and got sent away as they'd had technical problems and were running late...
On the plus side her interview for the BTEC Performing Arts has come through for next week!

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/04/2016 09:54

Lalsy, re holiday, I am a big fan of Ostende. There is a fabulous little art museum there, and it's a quick jump on the train to Bruges, Ghent or Antwerp for history, shopping and culture. The DDs and I had a lovely few days there. Hotels were cheap, and perfectly adequate, and if you go in the summer they often have cheap train tickets so that you can explore Belgium.

motherinferior · 14/04/2016 10:19

I'm sure if they feel the hospice is appropriate they'll suggest it. Of course I'll mention it to the GP but I can't do anything further at this end today, I think.

Lalsy · 14/04/2016 10:36

MI, strength. And no, you can't - the goalposts are moving and it is a case of seeing what each day brings, and not thinking ahead too much, I think. Just my opinion.

Thanks for holiday ideas, guys!

Cremo · 14/04/2016 10:43

Monty, I hope the funeral goes as well as possible and the right things are said. Sending you strength today.ThanksThanks

DQ I would second Collioure, as it's just gorgeous. Lots of Cathar history too. Where would you fly to? Perpignan ?. We stayed in Athens most memorable hotel called Les Templiers which , at that time had been the place many artists had lodged, so the walls were covered with fab paintings. here
It's two star , but one of those good ones!

MI - sorry! I am turning into one of your annoying relatives.

Dreamqueen · 14/04/2016 11:21

Cremo. We flew to Perpignon and sometimes stayed there for the first night to explore.

motherinferior · 14/04/2016 11:22

Grin That's the thing, there's a limit to what I can make happen.

Cremo · 14/04/2016 11:28

Thanks DQ. We drove up from Barcelona that time I think.Smilethat's why I couldn't think where to fly close by. Must go again. We were eating in one of the town's restaurants one evening, and there was a large table of locals nearby. Over the evening it transpired that they had all been in The Resistance and worked as guides over the dangerous Pyrenean routes to Spain during WW2. We all got talking in halting French and some incredible tales were told. Amazing, brave people.
