LUSH henna - why has it took me so long to find this fabulous stuff?

God it's amazing. Been using box dyes for ages to cover the greys in my brown hair. My hair was in terrible condition, dry, thinning, breaking off etc.
Tried the reddy brown Lush henna, it's a gorgeous colour, plus has left it really glossy, hasn't been this shiny all over since I was in my 20s.
Did it about 4 weeks ago and the colour and shine is still as good as when I first did it. Will never use a box dye again.
Promise I don't work for them, just needed to share the love!

Im still using it :)

steamboatwilly123 · 30/07/2017 21:51

This is the colour I get with caca rouge. I have natural mousey brown hair and I have been using Lush henna for over a year now after years of
using chemical dyes left my hair brittle and just horrible. I use the cling film then shower cap and towel trick as heat makes the colour richer and I leave for a good 3 ish hours. I love henna, will never go back nowGrin

I've been doing some research on this since this thread was reactivated.

I'm a little nervous about using it, because I have very dark brown hair and I don't want it to go any darker. I'm pale, so I'll look witchy if that happens Confused

Ideally, I'd love a pupley\mahogany tinge to my hair. Can I get this with Henna?

Istoletherainbow · 01/08/2017 12:40

Bumping this again, as I'm planning on buying this at the weekend, but I'm hearing mixed reviews when you have really dark hair like me....

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 16:23

Is it lush henna that you are wanting to buy?

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 16:27

When i used lush henna, it didnt make my hair darker. Things to consider:
Have you any grey?
Do a strand test to assess how it will turn out first and the mix you like.
Henna is a red dye so if you want to temper the red you need to add a little indigo to it. If you want to avoid going to dark, dont add as much indigo.
If its lush henna you are using use rouge [which is the henna] and some caca brun [ which contains indigo].

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 16:28

If you have any light bits in your hair/grey and use just henna, it will turn quite a firey red and in my case orange! [ I have lots of grey] If you want to temper the red, indigo is the way to go even if it is just a little indigo.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 16:32

If you go to lush, they are pretty good at advising you.
I dont use lush anymore as it was rubbish on the greys and didnt last. I now use real henna and indigo.

Istoletherainbow · 01/08/2017 17:55

Thanks for the tips.

It was Lush Henna I was interested in, yes. I have a few greys and my hair is quite dry from heat styling and a few box dyes.

What's the difference with Lush and other Henna?

Istoletherainbow · 01/08/2017 18:00

Here's a pic, so you can see just how dark my hair is and also, my pale skin tone- hence, not wanting to go darker.

Lush uses lots of other things with the henna - oils etc. Its still really good for your hair and if you dont have much grey hair, it will be fine.
Henna powder is pure henna and nothing else added to it. I started with henna using Lush but because i have lots of grey underneath, it didnt really cut it for me and i was frustrated because i had quite orangey roots and the rest of my hair was a glossy deep red. Henna and indigo completely dye the grey roots for me so suit me better. I also find pure henna isnt gritty and i dont need to grate it. It comes in a powder and I just add lemon juice to it and let it develop. With lush henna if i remember right, you grate and melt it and apply it right away. Try lush and then see how you get on. If you like it, you could always go for pure henna.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 18:09

You are the same colour as me [ prior to going grey] I have a sallow complexion. You should be fine. Actually when i think about it i think i started with marron and cacbrun. If you want more of a red you could just use marron or rouge [ which is a brighter red]. If you look back at the pictures and posts on this thread you will see what the effects are. I would do a strand test first. Speak to the people at lush and also google lush henna colours to see what it looks like in other people hair. You tube how to use it. I read a lot.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 18:12

Also remember once you have dyed your hair with henna, it takes a few days to oxodise and it then changes to a really lovely deep intense colour. Even if it is quite bright it will darken slightly. The difference with henna is you wont end up with a blocky colour like a box dye. It doesnt work that way. It will pick up all the natural highlights in your hair. It is beautiful stuff and you will be in love with the condition of it. The shine is pure gloss.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 18:16

My hair need a good wash but this is mine with real henna and indigo

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 18:21

If you look closely you can see the highlights that are caused by my grey hair. Its not made it darker but just a different colour.

Istoletherainbow · 01/08/2017 18:35

never, thanks for all that! I've checked out Youtube, but can't see many videos with people with dark hair. Definitely don't want a blocky colour! Glad that's not the effect Henna gives you.

I really love your colour btw! Quite purpley, which is what I'd prefer to red tbh. Pupley\ pinky, but not sure I can get this with Henna....

I'll definitely pop in to Lush and speak to someone.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 18:44

I have had some of my childrens friends ask me what colour my hair is!!! I kind of had some firey red streaks and some purply undertones. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the colour you get :)
Its not a great picture and it really needs a wash but you get the effect that it isnt a block colour.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 18:47

I just googled lush marron and there you go :)

Hmm I'm confused. The one on the left definitely looks a fair bit lighter in the after photo, which I didn't think was possible. Also, just spoke to someone from Lush on chat and she basically told me not to bother Confused Said it would definitely improve the condition of my hair, but colour wise, they'd be little to no difference.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/08/2017 20:36

The lush lady said for you not to bother? That is quite strange. I would go in and have a chat with them. How can she possibly say that without seeing your hair! I would go in and chat to someone face to face and chances are they will say that it will leave your hair with a nice tint of colour. If you are wanting something stronger then actual pure henna and indigo is the way.

Istoletherainbow · 01/08/2017 20:40

Yes, she did. I told her I had very dark brown hair and then she said it wouldn't really show and that I could give it a go, but I wouldn't get the desired effect, from the sounds of it.

Istoletherainbow · 01/08/2017 20:40

I will still go in though

PinkCrystal · 02/08/2017 01:59

I have dark hair and use lush henna. I have used it for many years. It has gone darker sometimes after using Caca Brun repeatedly. It can build up. It wasn't a huge problem I just used Maron which lightens the hair and makes it redder. It turns the greys faint ginger and the Brun turns them golden. It gives a lovely shine. I would def try it maybe the Maron at first or mix half and half with brun.

Istoletherainbow · 02/08/2017 10:26

pink, I was told that it couldn't lighten your hair....

PinkCrystal · 02/08/2017 14:17

It has in the way that it has made my very dark brown hair a gingerish chestnut
