LUSH henna - why has it took me so long to find this fabulous stuff?

God it's amazing. Been using box dyes for ages to cover the greys in my brown hair. My hair was in terrible condition, dry, thinning, breaking off etc.
Tried the reddy brown Lush henna, it's a gorgeous colour, plus has left it really glossy, hasn't been this shiny all over since I was in my 20s.
Did it about 4 weeks ago and the colour and shine is still as good as when I first did it. Will never use a box dye again.
Promise I don't work for them, just needed to share the love!

Second try today, have mixed marron and brun, gonna leave in for 8 hours and see :) does anyone know if you can store the henna grated?
Hope no one comes to the door!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/07/2016 12:14

I have 100% noire on at the moment (ooh I know how to live it up on a Saturday Wink ) Rinse off at 3pm ish.

Mama I asked in Lush about pre grating when I was mixing colours.
They said its fine as long as it's dry. (I had to throw out last weeks batch that I didn't use, it doesn't keep when its liquid)

I did think of grating a block of each brun and noire, putting in Lock&Lock boxes then mixing as I needed to but I never got round to it.Blush

I don't cut mine up, just cut a square and slow melt, then mix with a plastic spoon.

Mama1980 · 02/07/2016 17:11

Thanks 70, I'll pop mine dry in a little box.
How did your hair turn out? Rinse out is 9pm ish here :)
Was on the lush website earlier and saw they sell a copper bar shampoo ideal for henna it says, so have ordered one to try.

I keep threatening to go back to chemical dye cos I do find the henna a faff so I don't do it as often as I should so the roots look shit for a while then I just do the henna again.

I had naturally dark brown hair now about 30-40% grey. I only use noir as I don't like the orange tint of the other ones (I have tried marrpn and Brun previously). It doesn't took black, like you'd think. Although apparently if you want black, a few applications a few days apart will get more of a black effect.

My greys aren't totally covered but look kind of glinty coppery. I like the natural strands of different colour rather than the block effect of chemical dye. Sideburns are too wispy to take the henna though so underneath they look a bit grey still.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/07/2016 21:52

Actually the Grey bits probably look more of a gold-y colour than coppery. Anyway. I think they look like natural highlights. I'm going to stick with the noir. Don't like orangey tints with my pink skin tone.

Love your colour, looks amazing :) may go a bit darker with mine next time.
This is mine, Love the colour and my hair is usually 75% grey so the coverage is good and natural looking. Very pleased.

StillSmallVoiceOfCalm · 03/07/2016 13:58

I have a henna question please.
I did my hair a couple of months back. My blonder bits are a bit orange.
A. Will it go more orange in the sun? (On holiday)
B. Should I re-do it before I go? Or will it go more orange?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/07/2016 14:46

I used the pure noire on my hair , it went a nice chocolate brown (not black thankfully, I'd look corpse~esque)
But my lighter ends are still coppery (I had a tiny bit of dye but I thought that had gone completely, had my hair cut last week. Obviously not Grin )

My roots are covered though which is good and I'm hoping it will oxidize and darken more.
I'll try and get a picture up later.

StillSmall I reckon the sun will lift it more, your hair might go more gingery?
You could try adding a % of a darker henna but do a strand test in good time to let it settle before you commit.
My hair is still chestnutty in places even though I've only used brun and noire, no red henna Hmm

Mama1980 · 03/07/2016 15:16

Still: I'd think it will go lighter in the sun. I'd maybe apply another darker layer.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/07/2016 23:10

Still: which version did you use?

Mama: that's amazing coverage for 75% grey. I think it looks so much better than a box dye - more natural.

This hasn't been showing in my TIO list. Missed loads of posts!

I should have redone mine about 3 weeks ago but was too lazy. I was shocked into doing it again when I saw lots of white hair yesterday. Shock.

I swear I didn't have that many before.

I have half marron and half rouge on my head just now, as that's what I had left from the last two tries.

Love the photos. Those are also what kicked me into gear - everyone's hair looks so glossy and the colour's great. I want that back! Grin

Sallystyle · 08/07/2016 18:34

I currently have it on my head at last.

BTW it stops developing after three hours. Lush lady says she doesn't understand why people leave it on for so long.

FoofFighter · 10/07/2016 13:21

After umming and ahhing over henna for years, I finally caved and bought it yesterday.

Hair is shoulder length and salesgirl advised using all 6 blocks, rtft and noticed that nobody really seems to use that much though?

Mama1980 · 10/07/2016 14:06

Foofighter, I have thick hair halfway down my back and only needed 4 blocks.

OvO · 10/07/2016 16:19

When mine was long I only used 4 blocks. It's shoulder length now and I had 4 blocks left so just used it all and had loads, just slopped it all on anyway. Grin

Next time I might just use 3 so I will have enough for two full dyes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/07/2016 22:32

I need to re-do my henna and I thought I had enough........but I have only one square.
Arse.
I was in London today and nearly went into Lush to buy a block.

Need to make a trip to town then (and I need to buy a floormop, so not a wasted trip then Wink )

I'll try the 3 hours this time with 100% noire.

MsInterpret · 29/07/2016 22:51

Really keen to hear how the noir comes out, 70.

I've been lurking for a while and the thread inspired me to seek out my henna block languishing in bathroom cabinet for donkeys. Was Caca Brun. Happy with it overall but ideally want darker rich brown but NOT black. So if that's what you get I'll go for it too on the noir!

neveradullmoment99 · 03/08/2016 07:33

Well i got fed up with lush henna as i just wasnt ever getting grey coverage. It made my mind up when i had left it on for 7 hours and still had little grey coverage. I bit the bullet [ after reading a post here and reading loads of the literature] and ordered indigo and henna from hennacat. Mixed the henna up the day before yesterday and waited for the dye release. It happened in about 7 hours. I then froze it as i didnt have time then to do it and yesterday mixed up the indigo and added it to the henna. Left it on for 7 hours and then rinsed with just conditioner and almost all of my greys are covered!!! Amazing. So that is the way forward for me. Its slightly darker than i would like but i can live with that!!!

neveradullmoment99 · 03/08/2016 07:41

I should say, i have a slight wisp at the side that never takes but that is it. I am so pleased. Also, normal henna and indigo seem to smell less annoying to me. The lush henna smelt of midgy repellent on my hair after a day!!! The consistency of both the fine ground henna and indigo made a lovely smooth paste that was easy to rinse out too. For me, lush henna is lovely but just not strong enough.

Porg · 31/08/2016 13:48

I've got the noir one on my head now. I'm having a bit of a wobble. Maybe I should have mixed it with BRUN. Too late now. Off to clean up the kitchen, it will probably take me the four hours waiting time.

Spiderpigspiderpig · 03/09/2016 10:31

Hello, sorry I haven't read the whole thread (got to page 6!) so not sure if this has been asked.

I have bleached my hair, put a box dye on and it's faded to blonde.
Can I put caca brun over bleached hair? What colour will it go?
I've just seen a youtube vid were here highlights went green. But she did mix it with coffee.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/10/2016 22:30

Bumping for more Lush Henna Chatter Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 08/10/2016 23:05

Well not on lush henna anymore. I am using just the henna and indigo mix from henna cat with great success. The only thing i dislike is the smell of it really. It takes ages to leave the hair.Thinking maybe i might add some oils to it. However coverage is fantastic in comparison to lush. It still leaves hair with a glossiness to die for. My hair has also improved so much its like having a different head of hair!!!

MeIAm · 25/10/2016 15:31

I've just done mine for the 1st time with lush brun. I'm not sure I've done it properly though because I can't see much of a difference and my greys are still there! They look more prominent now!

I think my 1st mistake was how I prepared the henna, too thick? Maybe didn't use enough?
My 2nd mistake was not leaving it on long enough - does it really need 4-10 hours?!
Will I make a 3rd mistake if I redo it again very soon? Like tonight?

I'm really disappointed! All the photos that have been posted look gorgeous, lovely colours, swishy and shiny! I can't box dye it for a while can I?
