LUSH henna - why has it took me so long to find this fabulous stuff?

God it's amazing. Been using box dyes for ages to cover the greys in my brown hair. My hair was in terrible condition, dry, thinning, breaking off etc.
Tried the reddy brown Lush henna, it's a gorgeous colour, plus has left it really glossy, hasn't been this shiny all over since I was in my 20s.
Did it about 4 weeks ago and the colour and shine is still as good as when I first did it. Will never use a box dye again.
Promise I don't work for them, just needed to share the love!

Hopefully this will also last me a good few weeks before i have to touch it up again.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/05/2016 18:00

Good luck neverAdull

Mine is a rich dark copper (think of a dark red setter Grin ) not black

My roots are darker so I need to re-henna every 3 weeks maximim I reckon for blending and grey coverage.
But my hair is so soft, it's usually driving me barmy after this length of time, but I'm going to stick out the gowing time and have a light trim in a month or so.

Hello!
I used lush brun last week after reading this thread.
My hair is just above shoulder length and previously box dyed.

I used 4 squares....I don't think I mixed it thinly enough, and I found it quite difficult to apply. It was making my hair matted and I wasn't able to spread it at all once it was on my head.

BUT. I left it on for about 2 1/2 hours and rinsed it out....the colour was ok...much the same as my box dye, but the condition was lovely. Really soft and shiny.

It has covered my greys...sort if. It's left them sparkly orange! Grin

Next time, I'm going to do half brun and half noir, and leave it on much longer. I will also mix it much thinner.

Fair play to you who have done overnighters. I don't think I could manage that!

Great thread....thanks for all the tips!

Happy you have joined us chimchar :)
Well talking of sparkling orange roots - that's me today!!!!
I left mostly maron on for 5 hours yesterday. I love love love the rest of my hair. Need to deal with the lightness at the roots though. Think the best way forward is to use either pure brun tomorrow or try for the black mixed with brun???? I don't have the black atm. I could venture into lush as some point today. Not sure I can be bothered!!! Might just do brun on only my roots tomorrow to tone them down.
Its a beautiful colour but I still haven't been able to tone up the roots with the rest of my hair.
I have fairly dark brown with red everwhere except for my roots which are a kind of ginger colour. Ideas???????

neverAdullmoment79 · 29/05/2016 11:39

Actually on reflection I am going to leave it to oxidise a for a couple of days as I love the firey red in the strands and I am afraid it will darken them :) It isn't that bad on the roots. Only when the light is coming from above ha ha!!

neverAdullmoment79 · 29/05/2016 11:40

The shine is like gloss Grin Grin I love henna :)

Forsythja · 29/05/2016 12:45

Hi.

Inspired by this thread I've bought some. I'm a bit scared to do all my hair in one go. Has anyone tried a few locks of hair and then get braver or is it too messy to try that?

Thanks

neverAdullmoment79 · 29/05/2016 14:09

You can pull out a strand of hair and do a strand test or take some from a hairbrush and dye that. See how you go. Thats what i did. Dont do what i did and take it from a silly place as from time to time, i can see where i cut a bit of hair of Blush

neverAdullmoment79 · 29/05/2016 22:57

Well just went for it today and put pure brun on the roots and left for about 1hr 30. Definetly toned my roots down now. Going to just keep applying brun to the roots until i get the coverage i want. Not right away but over the next couple of weeks. I read that if you apply red henna, the indigo sticks better to it. Does anyone know about this? I also added some boiled coffee to the mix. Maybe that made a difference? Anyway, its better. Going to let it oxodise at the roots now and see what happens. I will get there eventually!!!

neverAdullmoment79 · 29/05/2016 22:58

*boiled coffee to the brun mix.

neverAdullmoment79 · 29/05/2016 23:31

Also thinking about using henna powder. Anyone have any experience of using henna other than lush. From what i have read, i will need indigo and henna to cover my greys. Any advice would be great :)

eitak22 · 04/06/2016 19:21

I'm doing henna this weekend :) currently doing a strand test and have read through the thread so hopefully I won't mess up.

neveradullmoment99 · 04/06/2016 19:51

Goodluck with your henna :) Was looking at my roots today and was wondering what to do for the best. I am tired of trying to dye them!!!! Think i will leave it for a while.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/06/2016 23:07

I did my hair again today ( I've been averaging once a fortnight but I am getting grey Grin )

I used black:brown 2:1 so now I have no Henna left and I'll need to restock .

It is getting easier, I don't chop mine, I put the squares in a pyrex bowl with the boiling water on a bain-marie and let it melt.
Come back in 20 minutes or so and stir it.

Still pleased with how soft it is but I;m still not glossy Sad. Colour is still dark red/copper (I wouldn't risk Rouge on my hair, there must be enough red henna in what I;m using. And I use clingfilm so it keeps warm, which increases the redness)

eitak22 · 12/06/2016 07:21

I'm not that impressed with mine, not sure if i washed it to early or didn't leave it on long enough but it has definitely faded after a week. Is a kinda gingery, brassy red as opposed to a deep one. Not sure if i can be bothered to do again.

oneoldmare · 12/06/2016 08:44

Henna sounds amazing but I straighten my hair using the Keratin Straightening Treatment. Do any of you henna users use Keratin too, or know if I can use henna after a treatment?

ididntsignupforthis1 · 12/06/2016 09:00

I did a 2nd treatment yesterday
Mixed a bit too thick
Roots need doing - will try later.

ididntsignupforthis1 · 12/06/2016 12:40

Bought a tinting brush
Home now to do roots

Wenchelda · 16/06/2016 13:43

I did my hair last night and slept with the henna on - so on for just over 10hrs total. And my greys still aren't covered Confused

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/06/2016 19:54

I'm doing an overnighter with noir henna...................................
My ends are very auburn still compared to my roots .

This might go Pete Tong Shock

I need to get it cut I reckon, growing it isn't working and I really CBA styling/straightening and ended up with a boring short bob Mum cut.

Mama1980 · 25/06/2016 20:35

Finally got round to doing mine today, lush Maron, I did a strand test for 4 hours and it covered the grey but in my whole head it hasn't completely, colours gorgeous though :)
Think I didn't leave it in long enough, so going to try again next week and leave it on overnight. Anyone their tips for grey coverage?
Much easier to apply than I though, woman in lush gave a me a top tip to keep the melted dye in bowl of boiling water keeps it hot and makes it stick better apparently.

YouAreMyRain · 25/06/2016 21:00

I've got a full block of Lush Rouge henna that I think I've developed an allergy to. I don't want to throw it away so if anyone fancies it, PM me and I can post it

Chimchar · 26/06/2016 11:31

Hello hennaerers. Grin

Anyone use just noir?
Used lush brun again last week...its just too reddy. Gorgeous when it's just done, but already, a week or so later, i can see it's fading. Spoke to a lady in Lush who said she thought my hair was marron. So much so that she gave me a free 6 block of brun because she thought I'd been given the wrong colour to start with!!

Is the noir really black, or a nice dark brown?

I did it much hotter last time, and thinner than my first time....I can see though that a pp said to do it to Heinz tomato soup consistency. Mine was thicker than that. I think that 3 squares would be plenty for my not quite shoulder length hair.

Any advice or thoughts?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/06/2016 13:24

Chim I was going to henna last night (I even got my henna simmering away on the Bain Marie ) but once everyone had gone to bed and I would have to apply it myself (I usually do 99% of the application and get DD to check the edges) I really couldn't be bothered Blush

I cannot wear glasses and the turban/clingfilm combo which is why I was planning an overnighter.

I have been using brun:noir , started with pure brun then increased the noir; and last time I think I used 2 noir: 1 brun
My hair is still reddish but I have residual dye from a box colour at the very edges (less than a centimetre, it needs cut out ) which has grabbed the reddish colour more.

If I can, I'll try again tonight , I had to throw out my henna that I'd cooked.

Last time I did the treatment, I just got into the shower and washed my hair and body then the bath, the tiles and the shower curtain but my poor old back won't let me stoop over a sink or bowl to rinse it out.

Mama1980 · 26/06/2016 17:02

Mine turned out great! Colour has really developed further and it's so shiny :) still a few greys so I will do again next weekend but am very pleased.
Thinking of adding some noir.....is it very very dark?
