I'm going to transform myself - would anyone like to join me?

BeautifulMaudOHara · 11/03/2016 11:04

I need to get a grip and I think posting here might help me!

I need to lose some weight, concentrate on personal grooming and give myself a makeover, generally. I want to look and feel better and up my look at work.

Is anyone else interested in joining me?

My aims and ideas are (yours may be different):

Get my teeth bleached
Find out whether to (or how to) deal with my fairly new moustache FOR EVER
Ditto chin hairs
Sort out my fungal toenail
Get a new work wardrobe at some point
Get my nails gelled and keep them maintained
Give up sugar and carbs
Sleep enough, drink slightly less
Be happy!

I am generally, but I do need to look less like a hag, I have let myself go a bit and it's got to stop. Anyone else in?

I used crest ones before but have just ordered some eBay cheapies.....will let you know!!

Mrsmorton · 12/03/2016 15:44

If you go cheap on your eyebrows or hair, they will grow back. Your teeth? Not so much, probably the one place to actually see a professional. But that's just my opinion...

PersisFord · 12/03/2016 16:02

Grin true.....I'll risk it in the name of science!!

hippospot · 12/03/2016 16:23

Please can I join?

I do lots of this already. Pretty good skincare and exercise/diet. I don't love my body shape but there's not a lot I can do to change that really, so I try to focus on being strong and healthy. I have a BMI of 21 it's just the shape I don't love.

I've decided to throw money at the problem:

sclerotherapy for leg veins
IPL on face for dark patches and veins
professional teeth whitening

Also, for the last year or two I've been only buying clothes I love, the best quality I can afford. I have been aiming for elegant but I suspect the result is more safe and unadventurous. I think what doesn't help is greying hair, but I feel liberated since I stopped the dye and DH loves my "natural highlights". I am not tempted to dye it again and having the greys does motivate me to take better care of clothes, grooming, hair etc to compensate. I have got into the habit of wearing make-up every day and I do feel better for it.

Living in a very chic city in S. Europe is a daily threat to my self-confidence though, I feel permanently unstylish.

Brilliant thread - it has booted me up the bum and today I have:

  • had manicure and pedicure
  • had fab new haircut

Next is to have dental clean and find mineral foundation

StarChaser99 · 12/03/2016 17:13

Well I did it, had a new colour and totally new style (including a swept fringe) so am feeling like a positive step was made today. Need to work on weight and wardrobe next. Planning on starting work on both next week.

realhousewife23 · 12/03/2016 17:33

I like these comments that are saying this is what I'm going to do TODAY, this is what I'm going to do this WEEK. I think I'm guilty of self sabotaging because the end goal is just too big and too far away. Breaking it down into manageable steps really helps.

everdene · 12/03/2016 17:51

I'm SO on board with this!

Lookdownthesofa · 12/03/2016 18:16

Hi everyone, lots to catch up on with this thread.

My achievement of the day is being 500g lighter than I was a few days ago (and have been this weight or heavier for about a year). This corresponds with starting to use my fitness pal, so having to account for everything I eat is obviously working!

Pavonia · 12/03/2016 18:22

Well done to those of you with new haircuts!

I have achieved my 10,000 steps today and had salad for lunch so that's not bad.

Shopping trip has resulted in a new concealer (badly needed), two Revlon lip butters and a new cleanser, so I'm feeling quite positive. Also bought some Pearl Drops toothpaste so I shall be interested to see if that has any effect on my teeth.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 12/03/2016 18:26

Right Ive skimmed the thread after marking my place last night.

Im joining Slimming World on Monday. I know other people will have different ways to lose weight, but Im giving this a go as I know people who go and I know I could make a thing about it with other people therefore I will be more successful.

Im in the GNR anyway so going to up my running (had to give it a rest this weekend as Im suffering from a chesty cough). Im looking forward to getting up early once the mornings are light enough for a quick run.

I have my own nail lamp so can easily keep on top of my nails.

Now for the other things.

Eyebrows. I dont get them done near as often enough.

Hair. Its a nice colour ATM, got it coloured Tues night and its a nice cut. Now I just need to make sure I make it nice every day. Im too prone to pulling it back or just leaving it messyish to save time.

Toning - Running will help with cardio, but Im going to do weights to help with toning my arms. Im also going to do a 30 day challenge I have made a note of them at the start of the year, but am yet to complete one Blush I did so well in Jan with the squat challenge and got to day 15 or so.

Make-up - I haven't a clue what Im doing or what suits me. Ive tried looking on youTube, but still cant do it. I want to look glamorous, but not like a clown. Subtle, but glowing IYKWIM. Shall I pop to Boots tomorrow?

Clothes - I want to dress as though Im rich, even though Im not.

lavenderhoney · 12/03/2016 18:44

Ive let myself go a it but ex dh is taking me to court ( twunt) so I've been a bit busy. Plus I have the DC all the time as ex dh lives abroad ( long haul)

However I have been to the hygienist and now have a program for my teeth which are actually fine but need maintenance. Next app this week.

I keep my nails short and clear polish but must remember to put cuticle oil on or they rage out of control.

Had my hair cut and coloured and it's still looking lovely ( watched YT for hints on blow drying)

Excercise DVDs. Doing them every day

Next week is no more wine and lots of water. And footner.

I have lots of lovely clothes but have put a bit of weight on so can't begin to get into them. I cannot be chubby in the spring! I'll look weird with an overcoat:)

I have bought a home wax thing on Amazon. Can't afford salons anymore, hate shaving and having been waxed for years it can't be that hard to copy. Might wait a bit to attempt a Hollywood though:)

I'm also a bit flaky and tend to try and imagine giliian Michaels following me about nagging but often she falls out with my guardian angel who frankly is a bit crap ( think she is patsy from Ab Fab) and sometimes Gillian gives in and moans about how crap I am whilst patsy fills her glass and offers her fags:)

Lizlette · 12/03/2016 18:55

I'm in. Husband left 6 months ago, running out of excuses for the baby weight (baby is 3) and am determined that this summer I will be confident getting my legs out, rather than hiding in jeans on the beach.

Have highlights booked for Friday, started doing blogilates on YouTube once the 3yr is in bed, but really, really need to crack the sugar addiction. I dont smoke, rarely drink, don't really eat crisps or sweets, but chocolate and cakes are like crack to me. They're my only 'treat' but I know they probably aren't helping with my crap skin...

Littlepig8834 · 12/03/2016 19:14

I'm in! Need to lose baby weight and sort out my wardrobe. Skin is ok as is hair, family member is a hairdresser so have regular cuts at home. Would like to lose a stone before I go back to work in April if not a stone at least 10lbs.
Fitness DVDs have been purchased and hoping to fit them in around the 9m old.

Donge13 · 12/03/2016 19:24

Hit 10k steps today and did my nails.
Going for a soak in the bath, deep condition my hair, face mask, de fuzz and a gradual tan in moment.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 12/03/2016 19:28

Ooh yes 10K steps. I have a fitbit which I wear everyday, yet I dont even try to reach my steps. From tomorrow I will. It will be a walk rather than a run due to my cough, but I will do it tomorrow.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/03/2016 20:40

Today I've been up in the loft and found a pair if jeans that almost fit but not quite, so I'd like to be in them soon. Just done my measurements as I found my notebook from January. I'm a stone lighter, but not an inch smaller, and my hips are actually an inch bigger which means I really must do some toning up or I will literally be just a bag of skin if I lose any more weight! I'm not well at all with a horrible chest infection so had a hot bath and face scrub, moisturise etc. I did a footner last week but because I've been poorly I'd forgotten so I thought I had a horrible disease for a minute before I remembered! Tomorrow: dig out my 30 day shred dvd , go for a walk with ds In The pushchair, eyebrows!

Petradreaming · 12/03/2016 21:10

Can I join please? I look like a hag. I used to look lovely but having gone through early menopause I seem to have lost it.

Need to get rid of at least 3 stone
Plus make more of an effort everyday... Manicure/ pedicure... No roots showing... Better make up.

Planning to get back to the gym and start weight training again..,

I am so embarrassed at being such a slob.

PersisFord · 12/03/2016 21:18

Ooooooh, I forgot my biggest one.....my VERUCCA!!!!! It's older than my twins!!!!!! Ok, tomorrow I will start treating it. It is bringing nothing to our relationship.

realhousewife23 · 12/03/2016 21:43

I had an afternoon at the shops, treated myself to some Paul Mitchell shampoo, conditioner and some blow dry cream which promises softness and shine....we'll see. Also got an new OPI nail polish in a really nice sheer nude color which I should be able to manage myself at home.

Talk to me about My Fitness Pal. Is it for exercise tracking etc? I have a step counter on my iphone, did just over 3000 steps while out shopping. Is 10,000 the number to aim for? I'm ashamed to say but I'm so out of shape and unfit at the moment, I can feel myself getting slightly out of breath even at the slightest incline walking in town. Shameful. I do cycle a fair bit in the summer and have a treadmill but that hasn't seen any action in months.

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 12/03/2016 21:52

eyebrows and tash sorted.
went for a long walk with a friend (exercise-ish plus socialising in one)
bought fancy make up

will RTFT but wanted to log progress to keep on track!

hollieberrie · 12/03/2016 21:58

Checking in. Today i have showered, cut and filed nails, and encouraged my hair into gentle waves with a new posh Bumble & Bumble product which worked quite well. I love the wavy hair look and think it quite suits me so I need to perfect my technique - any tips gratefully received!

I went for a walk and only had soup for dinner, but then slightly ruined it by eating a 1/4 of a large jar of Nutella Confused

hownottofuckup · 12/03/2016 22:26

I have dyed my hair a much better colour.
Cut and painted my nails.
Double cleansed, moisturised, eye gelled and applied body lotion this morning and tonight.
Brushed my hair and put make up on this morning!

NewLife4Me · 12/03/2016 22:33

Petra

I too went through an early menopause, started at 38, then had dd Grin
I hate my hair and skin being so dry, there's nothing that seems to work for me.
I wish I could find the right products.

dangerbunny · 13/03/2016 02:50

I'm in, my baby is two months old and I'm feeling frumptastic in ratty yoga pants. Part of my issue is I'm a stay at home mum (4 year old and a wee one) and we have a farm, currently I've noticed chickens don't care if I brushed my hair, hah.

My goals for the month are:
cut out sugars and starches, so hard but I always feel fantastic and I look great when I do. Been ravenously hungry with breastfeeding and that translates into eating whole pans of brownies, not good for my figure, mental health or self confidence.

workout everyday, maybe a walk, run, pilates, yoga or weights. Needs to be every day so I can stick with it.

Sort out my hair, I tried no poo for almost two years but I think our water is just too hard for it to work. It's all dry and different lengths. Plus I have a shocking amount of greys for being 29.

Get rid of the rubbish from my wardrobe, likely won't buy anything new until I lose a little baby weight but I have a lot of things you wouldn't wear in public.

Already doing well with drinking water, sleeping and my skincare (answer is trial sizes! finding products that don't anger my skin is a challenge) but I'd like to feel lovely without it being a major and stressful undertaking, a bit more put together I suppose.

We can do it ladies!
