I'm going to transform myself - would anyone like to join me?

I need to get a grip and I think posting here might help me!

I need to lose some weight, concentrate on personal grooming and give myself a makeover, generally. I want to look and feel better and up my look at work.

Is anyone else interested in joining me?

My aims and ideas are (yours may be different):

Get my teeth bleached
Find out whether to (or how to) deal with my fairly new moustache FOR EVER
Ditto chin hairs
Sort out my fungal toenail
Get a new work wardrobe at some point
Get my nails gelled and keep them maintained
Give up sugar and carbs
Sleep enough, drink slightly less
Be happy!

I am generally, but I do need to look less like a hag, I have let myself go a bit and it's got to stop. Anyone else in?

mindy my Boots shop today was all No7 make up (foundation, mascara and lip gloss) plus some Lee Stafford hair products and Aussie shampoo and conditioner.

I use Superdrug skincare, their Naturally Radiant range. Although if I'm wearing make up I double cleanse with their Vitamin E Miscellar water first, then the Naturally Radiant Hot Cloth Cleanser.

14lbs in a week? That's scary! Been losing weight since new year, have lost 18lbs in around 12 weeks. Could have saved myself 10 weeks! Wink

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/03/2016 21:44

I've heard of the ducan diet, they sell some bars and shakes for it it tesco as well I think. What does it involve? I've been reading the Michael Mosley blood sugar diet, he's the guy who invented the 5:2 diet, and I like the theory of it but its 800 cals a day for 8 weeks and its just not do-able for me long term. I like the ides of eating Mediterranean sty!e though, healthy fats and few carbs, and restrictng calories that way, but if I did 800 a day I'd be such a cow to live with! i do love a crash diet though for quick results

sillysusan · 19/03/2016 21:46

Had my teeth done last year. Best thing I've ever done. All bleached at the dentist then 4 veneers to upper central. Changed my whole face and made me feel a lot more confident

I'm going to transform myself - would anyone like to join me?
Chillywhippet · 19/03/2016 23:40

Great thread. Joining in with my progress:

Wearing my nicer clothes (not that I have many) everyday rather than saving them
Making sure hair is properly blow dried and finished
Cleansing. And moisturising morning and night. And shaved legs.

Tried eyebrow tint - good. Easy to just put on hairs I wanted darker, quite fair naturally and now brows look brown to edge.
Eyelash tint - much harder. Mainly I think because I needed glasses on really and managed to get wand in eye. Ouch.
Conclusion is will keep up brow tint but get lashes done in salon Smile

BeautifulMaudOHara · 20/03/2016 00:11

Sillysusan your teeth look amazing!

I use the old baby muslin cloths ( I've cut them up, flannel size) for the oil thing, and l'oreal face oil. Then rose oil. In the day if I'm outside I use a moisturiser with sun factor ( even if it's not sunny).

I'm Impressed with the teeth pic:! They look lovely.

I'm still low carbing and making myself drink loads of water - and I have taken to getting up early and doing exercise DVDs:)

Today I plan to clean out the car, because if it is nice and tidy inside its more incentive to match it! The dog and DC don't help with the overall mess though. It's like climbing into a tractor at the moment.

Using SPF every day was one of my turning 30 resolutions, as someone told me that its the best way to prevent aging. I think I did it about 3 times before forgetting! I'm very guilty of only using SPF on holiday , and because I don't burn easily it's easier to forget. I might factor that in to my 'transformation schedule' as well....on that subject, I have definitely noticed an improvement in my skin this week,I feel so smooth and soft, even my feet. Its becoming a habit now, to do my hands a couple of times a day and my feet in the evening. I'm using up so many different products that I've had for ages so its currently not costing me anything either. Today we're going to a buffet lunch at MIL's for her birthday, I'm going to take a few healthier bits under the pretence that they are for the baby, but actually they're for me as this will be a beige and brown buffet! I'll take Carrot sticks, cucumber etc for me.

Mindysgotswag · 20/03/2016 08:43

We have a buffet lunch to go to today as well. A birthday lunch. Shall make sure that I make for the carrot sticks and cucumber first! Have a kids birthday party to attend to first...mustn't forget to take my water!

Big pamper session tonight - facepack, defuzz... Been promising myself all weekend!

DamsenBerry · 20/03/2016 10:35

Defuzz done
All over exfoliate and moisturise done
Nails done
Hair mask done
Face mask done
Picked pretty dress to wear for lunch date today

Need to do
New battery for at home teeth whitening kit
Book hairdressers appointment
Book podiatry appointment to get rid of hard skin on feet
Decide on a proper skin care routine
Sort out wardrobe- try on and bin majority!

My lunch date with an old uni friend is in costa coffee today, so no chance of making healthy choices. I foresee hot chocolate and a toastie Blush

BeautifulMaudOHara · 20/03/2016 10:58

Oh YES to sunscreen!

I'm very pale and the skin on my body is milky white and looks good, on the whole, mainly due to no sun exposure but my face burns easily and my skin is sensitive so gets red quite easily too.

Can anyone recommend a good everyday use sunscreen that goes on over make up but doesn't show?

OP posts:
DamsenBerry · 20/03/2016 11:22

Yes I'm a redhead with ghostly skin, I really should be wearing sunscreen everyday. As OP mentions, any recommendations for a sunscreen I can use everyday, even if its one for face and one for body?

TwoTonTessie · 20/03/2016 11:35

Great thread, been lurking for a while now.
Mindy I tried that lose a stone in a week diet a while ago. I lost 11 pounds but it didn't stay off Sad I then tried Slimming World instead and lost almost 4 stone in just over 6 months Smile
I am now 3-4 dress sizes smaller hence now spending time on the S&B board to update my look.

rahlikeatiger · 20/03/2016 15:30

Is it too late for me?! I am currently attempting to lose weight. Cut down on sugar! And lose the frumpy mummy/student look I have going on after dc2. Where are you at ? Currently I am plagued by a blasted cough so am feeling particularly in need of a reboot!

littleleftie · 20/03/2016 15:49

Welcome tiger I have managed to lose 6lbs this week so am very happy with myself. My tummy had broken loose from it's moorings and I only have a handful of clothes in my wardrobe I can wear.

My skin skincare routine is shocking and I really needed to focus on a bit of self imrpovement all round. This thread has really helped keep me on track. I don't know if you managed to RTFT but some of us are thinking "what would x do?" using a person, famous or otherwise that you think makes wise decisions about their health/appearance/life. My person is Elle McPherson and this has also been really useful in keeping the discipline going.

Once I have lost weight I can go through all my crappy clothes and get rid of most of it.

Good luck!

BeautifulMaudOHara · 20/03/2016 17:18

Welcome tiger, it's never too late!

How's everyone getting on today? Managed to give the gorgeous but fattening birthday cake a swerve, and the sausage rolls...feeling pretty good!Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/03/2016 20:51

I managed to avoid all the buffet at the party. But was sent home with a wedge of cake ands parcel of food for my kids, which I've just scoffed and now feel my usual Sunday night feeling of 'why did I eat that?' And 'need to eat dust now all week til i get weighed on Wednesday' . I seriously don't know why I do this to myself sometimes.

StarChaser99 · 20/03/2016 20:53

Evening all! Went to the wedding yesterday and felt really good about myself for the first time in ages. My hair looked good, I made a real effort with my make-up, my skin is looking much clearer and smoother and had short (self) manicured nails. I didn't have time or money to buy anything new to wear but dug out an old faithful dress from the wardrobe and really thought about accessories. All in all I felt like my efforts are starting to pay off.

Today however, has been a slightly different story. Being knackered from late night plus alcohol plus day with a toddler has resulted in achieving nothing and spending the day feeling bloated and groggy and eating comfort food.

I can't even think about the horror show that is my diet this week, but at least the horrendous bloating from the alcohol last night is giving me the kick up the arse to sort it out this week (just in time for DD to get a shed load of Easter eggs that need eating!!) Now I just need to decide how the diet is going to be tackled. Not sure whether to commit to slimming world or something or just do it the old fashioned calorie counting way!

itsmeagain1 · 20/03/2016 21:03

Ok if I join in?
46, feel like I'm 56, feel fat and wrinkly and saggy and fucking gross to be quite honest. Then I feel gross so I drink tons of wine and eat loads of pizza. Doh.
First things first - lose 2 stone by end June (holidays in July) and as part of that exercise more regularly - I would like to run a specific 5k in May that I've promised to do multiple times now.

Mindy, I'm doing the Duncan diet thing from tomorrow. I've done it before and it worked for me. Lost 10 lb in a week. Then I'm going to do either 5:2 or 16:8, not sure yet.

JemimaMuddledUp · 20/03/2016 21:15

Welcome Tiger!

Quite a good day today. Had lots of compliments about my new Boden floral printed trousers (bought in the dregs of Clearance so a real bargain). Bit chilly at the moment to wear them much as my feet were cold in ballet flats, but I think I will get a lot of wear out of them as the weather gets warmer.

Went for a long walk this afternoon. Not quite 10k steps but not far off.

Had a long soak in the bath this evening and have shaved legs, exfoliated and moisturised. Am now filing and painting my nails in front of Indian Summers.

Outfit is laid out for work tomorrow - navy and yellow geometric print Boden wrap dress, navy cardigan, navy opaques, navy patent brogues.

Have also meal planned for the day using MFP. Fruit and Skyr yoghurt for breakfast, tuna and egg salad for lunch, Slimming World beef casserole for dinner. Trying to up the protein and lower carbs.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/03/2016 21:34

I misread Duncan diet as dukan....so what's the Duncan diet about?

Mindysgotswag · 20/03/2016 21:59

Bear - you basically get to eat eggs, tomatoes, lettuce & tuna...for a whole week. You tube link is above. I've heard good reports about it so thought that I'd give it a go. Need to lose about 2 stone ready for my holidays in 6 months

Marzipants · 21/03/2016 04:06

Sounds good (and VERY organised) Jemima!

Managed to put on make-up and do mum-chat at a kid's party on Saturday. (With a 4mo this counts as quite a social whirl!) Though today I didn't actually leave the house Blush and hovered up too many biscuits. Looks like the diet proper starts tomorrow again. Actually, today. 4mo is master of sleep deprivation.
