Sprayed a JhaG sample without glasses this morning so ended up at work in Another Oud (watching out to see if this generates complaints on the other thread...). Generally in favour of consideration for others (especially in confined spaces) but also a live and live attitude towards other people's self expression.

I find brief olfactory encounters with other people's fragrances generally add colour and light to a day. (But as an enthusiast I would, wouldn't I...). I find air fresheners much tougher to cope with.

Cresset - have you smelt Londinium (Molton Brown) - a great malt whisky fragrance.

cressetmama · 31/03/2016 10:46

MrsC, no, but I will rectify that when next in front of an MB display!

I love Another Oud too, and as it remains fairly low key on me, I wouldn't worry about your colleagues. As you say, air "fresheners" are much nastier, and usually reek of unnatural chemicals which surely can't be good for anyone.

FrustratedFrugal · 31/03/2016 18:32

SOTD Diorissimo and later on Infusion de Vetiver.

MrsCocoa · 31/03/2016 21:17

Have been reflecting on other people's perfume choices. It is one of the things Luca Turin picks up on constantly.; there's a whole passage in A-Z about passing a beautiful young man getting off a train who wore Lolita Lempicka. He seems really interested in observing how fragrance is worn, especially where there is a conscious juxtaposition between fragrance and wearer.

cressetmama · 01/04/2016 10:25

To those who like the Lalique Encre Noir (Homme): have any one you tried the Sport version? TK MAxx have it on their website for £24 for 100ml. The on line reviews I found are quite positive (essentially, EN with some upfront grapefruit and bergamot adding the Sport dimension). If I got a bottle, would anyone like to split it with me? I am not convinced I need so much.

Other people's perfume choices can jar, IMHO, but perhaps mine do to others. Agree it's interesting to ponder on what they thought when choosing scent. On the other hand, there have been occasions usually on public transport when I have found my nose pressed uncomfortably close to someone and would have been grateful if they had doused the offending body in any scent, or even air freshener.

SoTD from the pencil case store: CdG Sweet Rhubarb, which at first sniff is like just picked rhurbarb leaves, very vegetal and oxalic. It may need pretty-ing up.

cressetmama · 01/04/2016 10:26

... have any of you ...? Duh!

AppleSetsSail · 01/04/2016 10:28

Has anyone tried Five O`Clock Au Gingembre by Serge Lutens?

Just tried it at Sephora a few days ago and lurved it.

MrsCocoa · 01/04/2016 12:14

All getting very delicious here today ! Would love to try the SL and the CdG (plus you've left me wondering about custard notes to go with them...).

cressetmama · 01/04/2016 12:44

MrsC, custard would be a good addition. It has softened, and faded, but still very dry and a bit sharp in a good way. I might layer on a spritz of Aqua Fiorentina, which is also a bit rhubarb-y, but sweetened with florals; however, I am eking out the remains of my decant and feeling a bit niggardly.

Apple, I did try the SL many many years ago and found it a bit foody. The ginger was crystallised, not sushi ginger.

YetAnotherNC · 01/04/2016 14:10

SOTD Chanel Bois des Iles. I am feeling enveloped in a warm and elegant cloud.

I am always fascinated by other people's scents. I particularly love that glimpse into a life when you spot someone's scents lined up in the bathroom; what they are and what combination they own. I'm so nosy!

shins · 01/04/2016 14:24

Chanel Jersey. Beautiful discreet sophistication, somewhat wasted on a day off work slobbing out with the kids. But very lovely.

I love other people's perfume too, even when I don't actually like it iyswim. My rather flamboyant metrosexual boss has started wearing something new that really should have its own office, it's so strong (and well made and expensive smelling) but I like the way he trails it round after him in stairwells and meeting rooms. A young colleague wears Vanilia and I like the way its boozy gourmand waft is an interesting counterpoint to her rather austere demeanour. Wish more people wore distinctive smells...God knows what they think of me in there as I change on a daily basis..

MrsCocoa · 01/04/2016 14:46

Shins - loved that description. You know you are now going to have to find out exactly what it is that your boss wears and tell us!

shins · 01/04/2016 15:22

I should. I hope he doesn't think I'm flirting with him though! Blush

MrsCocoa · 01/04/2016 15:28

My money's on a Tom Ford....

cressetmama · 01/04/2016 17:00

We must know what it is Shins' boss is wafting about! For some reason I want it to be something from Boadicea the Victorious, which would fit with the strong, well made and expensive description. Have only sniffed them once (in Harrods) but the spray (Imperiale) lasted until next morning. I may have registered with their mailing list and have considered some samples... but have not succumbed to temptation. Where is the emoji for "virtuous woman" BTW?

FrustratedFrugal · 02/04/2016 14:27

I need to know too Wink

shins · 03/04/2016 00:27

He used to wear something quite room-emptying by Creed, bless him, so I suspect it could be something else of that nature.

I was reading that other thread about people not liking strong perfume on others and I kept thinking the opposite - I love people floating around like planets with their own atmosphere! Could be that I grew up in the 70s and 80s and was used to perfumes that felt three-dimensional. My nana wore Miss Dior "by Christine Dear" as she pronounced it and another glamorous auntie wore Rive Gauche so I'm hardwired to find those stonkingly powerful classics comforting and homely.

cressetmama · 03/04/2016 15:23

Flirt Shins... we need to know!

Dzing! yesterday. Today, eau de badger dung, and whisky handwash. Thanks dog!

FrustratedFrugal · 03/04/2016 16:51

SOTD En passant on a rainy spring day.

MrsCocoa · 03/04/2016 19:31

If you don't want to risk it sounding flirty, you could explain you've been discussing him with a group of mothers on the internet and they're exceptionally nosy....Grin

MrsCocoa · 03/04/2016 19:40

Scent of this evening is Mon Numero 10. Cosy incense which opens with breezy pink pepper and aldehydes.

shins · 03/04/2016 23:10

SOTD: Mitsouko EDP. Because it's Sunday and I am a Lady.

I will ask in a neutral "I'm interested in perfume" kind of way. It's already a standing joke in the office - ***'s Perfume of Doom - so will have to try to keep a straight face.

Random perfume musings - the late lamented David Bowie apparently smelled really nice. I gleaned this from (i) his interview with Brett Anderson in the NME in the early 90s (Brett said he smelled lovely) and (ii) a TV special where he recorded the winning song in a competition he'd had on his website. The winning songrwriter said to him how good he smelled and what he was wearing? Minotaur by Paloma Picasso - I think it's been reformulated or discontinued.

StUmbrageinSkelt · 04/04/2016 05:15

I lurve 5 O'clock au Gingembre. It is very foody and smells like warm ginger. I bought another foody ginger one which I don't love. Can't check the name as not at home.

d'Artisan l'eau d'ambre extreme here. In NZ where it is actually cold and it's lovely.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 04/04/2016 06:13

Minotaur by PP was divine. As is Paloma Picasso itself.

My colleague used to wear Minotaur and had a little terracotta brick thing infused with it. When I left my job he gave it me because I was always going in his drawers and sniffing it. Grin Haven't seen him for 20 odd years but when we chat on FB we always laugh about me and his Minotaur brick.

cressetmama · 04/04/2016 09:27

Tuberose, amber, saffron to give a wet, grey morning some warmth and spice. Yet hesitation, not convinced it works on my skin. It's Oil Fiction (JHaG) and this may not be its hour. Maybe it was made for the evening..
