Right, here we go!

For those of you who don't rememeber the rules, this is about feeling better about yourself so is not necessarily a diet per se but it is for six weeks, starting tomorrow.

The Rules

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. I'm going for hard core 6 weeks of no drinking but the odd glass of wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can, I am booking out lunch hours where possible to do this
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible. I am doing my heels daily too as they're lizard like
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy
  • Have more sex (if it makes you happier to do so)

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

You don't have to report back every day but I almost certainly will as it motivates me thinking someone is watching me.

Who's in?

God, the headaches from giving up caffeine were horrific (I was drinking a ridiculous amount of coffee though, hence needing to give up). They lasted about 4-5 days.

Have just had tuna salad for lunch and am about to drink a gallon of water. Think the walking is going to be the most difficult thing for me to do.

StarrmumofRoyalBeautyBright · 04/01/2007 14:26

Have stopped drinking (last drink was the early hours of New Year's Day) and wear daily moisturiser with SPF. Have printed off the Happiness manifesto.

Was then promptly floored by a severe bout of IBS, so in bed for most of yesterday!

Revised eating regime will start on Monday.

I'm joining in for the first time, have already stopped drinking as went back to work on Tuesday also (but I only 2 days a week outside the home), but cannot and will not stop drinking coffee. In my defence I only have 1 or 2 cups per morning though and fruit tea in the afternoon.

I use a tinted moisturiser with suncream and body cream every day.

Must walk more, too easy to get in the car, although I always park a deliberately long distance from work so that I have a walk morning and evening.

Will be able to eat less when dd goes back to school next Wednesday.

yoyo · 04/01/2007 15:30

I am unable to read the Happiness Manifesto - anyone else having problems with it?

Day going well so far. Did pilates today and was so shattered I have just had an hour in bed! Must get back to my daily routine. Off to knock back some water now.

swedishmum · 04/01/2007 18:32

I'm alternating coffee with non-caffeine drinks for now and gradually cutting down as I have been running on coffee for so long that I didn't want to go cold turkey. Drank 2l water during shopping trip today therefore combined fast walking with heading for the loo round Bluewater! No alcohol yet (another bad habit of mine). Still can't manage early nights though.

jenk1 · 04/01/2007 19:00

oooh ive just seen this thread, can i join?

I have got weight to lose and i saw this thread last year and wanted to join then but didnt pluck up the courage too.

Today i ate
Toast with olive oil spread and marmalade
Jacket potato with beans and cheese
Steak with oven chips and salad
and no cake,crips,alcohol.

And, i fought my way round Asda,s for nearly an hour so theres my exercise for today!!!!

Just got to remember the water drinking rule and the SPF.

unknownrebelbang · 04/01/2007 19:08

Still hoovering Christmas excess, but also plenty of fruit and water.

No exercise today, but I am having an early night.

No alcohol.

Not doing very well at this, am I?

WideWebWitch · 04/01/2007 19:16

I think anything with an SPF is ok zog and Enid.

I still feel rubbish and I am utterly shocked at how DREADFUL I feel while walking for a mere 30 minutes every lunchtime: my calves ache, my back aches with the effort of lugging my lardy backside along, god I feel like an old woman, instead of a middle aged one, which is what I am. Anyway, I'm doing it and I know at some point I'll think wow, this doesn't hurt any more.

So, Granola for breakfast (500 cals), 2 apples at work, puy lentils with lemon juice (500 cals) and a tiny amount of feta for lunch, salmon fillet (360 cals)with mashed sweet potato and green beans for supper.

2 litres water, tick!
24 minute walk at lunchtime (yes, I time them) tick!
SPF15 sunscreen tick!
Went to bed at 11pm last night half a tick

And day 3 of no booze, tick! So I'm doing ok. I am going to bed early again with a book and my feet covered in heel cream.

Well done everyone. Arfy, I wondered when you'd be along with your wheatgrass shots

Oh and I'm not giving up coffee, NO WAY! I had a large cup to start the day then 2 Americanos during the day.

God, no, couldn't do it, giving up wine is bad enough.

And welcome new people, sorry, no time to say hello to everyone but don't be scared, come on in!

I am SERIOUSLY tempted to get dh to take a photo of me now and after so I can see the difference. The before photo would motivate me, that's for sure!

unknownrebelbang · 04/01/2007 19:21

Ah, so there is one positive.......I don't touch coffee - ever.

lol.

Monkeytrousers · 04/01/2007 21:09

Had a good day today. Mashed sweet potato and nut cutlet for lunch, lentil and quinoa soup for dinner, lots of green and white tea, decaf after 6; 100 sit ups and a long walk with DS.

Monkeytrousers · 04/01/2007 21:09

WWW have you had spectacular results before?

no booze since weekend
lots of water
eating hmm ok I guess

I haev a Power Mothers Breakfast at 9am after the school run: wholemeal toast with peanut butter (the wholenut, no salt kind) and a mashed banana. Oh, and a milky coffee (coffee and tea a necessary evil here).

wearing spf in moisturiser everyday

still feel like shit though

puddle · 05/01/2007 10:29

I am on day 5.

Not even tempted to drink and have been having really good evenings sorting things out rather than vegging in front of Celeb Big Bro with a glass of wine.

Have been eating really well to make up for overdoing it badly over Xmas - lots of veggies, lentils and pulses - but will be glad when the last of the christmas biscuits are eaten as they are a constant temptation (don't usually have them in the house).

I feel rotten today though but am blaming it on a bad night's sleep.

Enid · 05/01/2007 10:34

was looking forward to glass of wine tonight but dh says he is not going to have one so I think I might crack open the becks alcohol-free

arfishy · 05/01/2007 11:14

Oooooh yes WWW. I'm going for it this time. Not only am I now unable to fit into any of the clothes that I bought with me, but I also have the horrifying threat of people who KNOW me coming to Australia in the next month or two.

I am motivated in an entirely shallow way (ie I don't want to see the look of horror on my friends' faces when I pick them up at Sydney airport).

There is a new shot on the block apparently. I will report back on Monday. Probably in lycra.

Well done everybody else. Much as I am enjoying the wine, I'm looking forward to feeling healthier (and thinner and getting back into clothes-er from next week).

Dinosaur · 05/01/2007 11:26

Last night:

no alcohol (v good)
pasta with seafood for tea (okay-ish)
bodycream etc (good)

Today: didn't walk to work (boo!)

But have spf 15 tinted moisturiser on, am eating fruit salad and low-fat yog and drinking water.

SnafuOutOfHiding · 05/01/2007 13:16

Today so far:

Banana, yoghurt and smoothie for breakfast
Seed mix for snacks (plus more smoothie and some water)
Whizzed up a fab carrot and roasted sweet potato soup for lunch and had that with 2 sticks of celery and some organic hummous.

No bread, chocolate or coffee so far. No alcohol tonight, or at least that's the plan.

Oh, and also bought new Olay Regenerist moisturisers with SPF 15 and am about to go slather...

Feeling pretty virtuous (well, it's all relative, isn't it?!)

swedishmum · 05/01/2007 13:59

Being really good - carrot and chilli soup for lunch, and lots of berries for breakfast. BUT I feel so knackered - don't know if it's early mornings of term time or eating less carbs. Anyone else the same?
