Right, here we go!

For those of you who don't rememeber the rules, this is about feeling better about yourself so is not necessarily a diet per se but it is for six weeks, starting tomorrow.

The Rules

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. I'm going for hard core 6 weeks of no drinking but the odd glass of wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can, I am booking out lunch hours where possible to do this
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible. I am doing my heels daily too as they're lizard like
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy
  • Have more sex (if it makes you happier to do so)

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

You don't have to report back every day but I almost certainly will as it motivates me thinking someone is watching me.

Who's in?

I'll be starting properly on Thursday when the kids go back to school.

Today I've bought a side-stepper (and used it already) as my asthma is under control for the first time in years so I can consider exercise without pain. As I am in such a bad way I'm hoping to get rapid results! Steamed fish for dinner, and I'm about to make a variety of healthy soups. Drunk lots of water too. Feeling very smug and virtuous.

winnie · 02/01/2007 15:57

I've excerised today
I've drank loads of water today (and peed for Britain)
I've cleansed and moisturised & worn sunscreen today
I ate organic wheatfree muesli, org natural yogurt & tsp honey for breakfast; homemade tomato soup and org wholemeal bread with olive spread for lunch

Felt I was doing really well especially as I had a morning from hell with dcs but then... I got an almighty headache which was treated by eating a piece of Xmas cake

Which proves the headache was a result of detox (?) and I have NO willpower

winnie · 02/01/2007 15:58

PS the cake put an end to the headache!

yoyo · 02/01/2007 17:04

Drank lots of water. No exercise (pushed trolley around Sains though which always feels like a workout). Eaten healthily so far. Slathered on lotions and potions.

BUT.. This Life +10 is on tonight and that will definitely mean alcohol as I think back to those younger days when I didn't need someone like WWW to keep me on the straight and narrow.

I am going to do some skipping now to make the children laugh.

Winnie - you have shamed me with your virtue today. Christmas cake is fine as it is loaded with fruit and nuts.

SnafuOutOfHiding · 02/01/2007 17:24

OK. Had greek youghurt and granola for breakfast.

Took my sunscreened face for a brisk walk along Brighton Pier - bloody cold but oh, so bracing! Had hummous, roasted peppers and salad for lunch - with a few teeny weeny chips but not many, honest, honest.

Not the best start, I admit, but should be better from tomorrow as I'm back at work and therefore not hanging around the house picking at chocolate...

WideWebWitch · 02/01/2007 17:40

OK, not a bad day.

50g Granola for breakfast, 245 cals, GOOD
at least 2 litres water at work GOOD
Walked with a friend for 30 mins at lunchtime, nearly killed me GOOD (horrible but good)
No sunscreen BAD
Had smoked salmon sandwich for lunch, no butter GOOD. Was going to have soup but took the Thermos out of cupboard this am and someone had put it back in the cupboard with the remains of soup in it, VILE. So I won't be using that until it's been through the dishwasher, must have been in the cupboard a couple of months at least
2 apples as snacks GOOD
leftover lentil hotpot for supper GOOD

OMG, I can't watch This Life +10 without wine! Watching This Life has needed wine, they all drink and smoke like, well, the twentysomethings they are. Gah. This is the first day, I will not give in...

Well done everyone. Except those of you who ate Christmas cake or chocolate. Although it's only day 1 so I'll let you off.

Nope, I won't drink wine, I won't drink wine...

OP posts:
yoyo · 02/01/2007 17:47

OH yes you will!! You won't be able to resist.

winnie · 02/01/2007 19:02

Mmm... I've also wondered if it's possible to watch This Life without drinking wine

WideWebWitch · 02/01/2007 19:05

Winnie, discussed it with dh and choices are:

Save it until Friday night and watch it then, with wine
Watch it tonight, he will go and get wine
Watch it tonight without wine and either feel smug or desperate with longing

I would like to think I'm grown up enough to do the last one but not sure...

McDreamy · 02/01/2007 19:08

www I would like to join. I am printing the happiness manifesto as we speak and as I got a laminater for Xmas I will laminate it and stick it to my cupboard door.

Got a really sore throat at the moment (on AB's) so will let that settle for a couple of days and then I will be joining you all with a vengence 2007 will be my year

Chandra · 02/01/2007 19:33

Report on the first day... I overslept (well needed as I have driven almost 800 miles last week), for breakfast I only had a coffee, my exercise was to run to work and back home(I was late in both directions!). Had a vegetable soup with a roll for lunch and 2 litres of chicken broth for dinner (hope they count for the water!). And I'm ready to go to sleep since mid afternoon but so far no joy.

And no, I'm not following a strange revolutionary diet I just got the flu.

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 02/01/2007 19:35

I don't think I can do the bed at 10.30pm thing. I'm a night owl and then there's salsa!

However, am willing to do everything else bar the sunscreen. My natural melanin should take care of that! Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.......grrrrrrr

prufrock · 02/01/2007 20:03

Right I'm in. And I will stick to all your rules. Though I must buy sunscreen too - kids blue stuff won't look too hot, and my only other option is an spf 15 tinted moisturiser from the summer which will make me look orange. And fridge still has too much cheese and pork pie in it - but both of those are OK in moderation aren't they?

I did look very longingly at wine tonight, and then worried that I was an alcoholic if I was desperate for wine after only 2 days. But then realised I was also craving Coke, so I think it's more hating denial than needing alcohol. And OMG - I've just been to check the dates on the boxes of chocs that are left over (Mar 07 so I can leave them) and am now despertae for a truffle!

Anyway - did yoga yesterday, and took dog for 45 minute walk (well amble - kids came too), nothing today, but ate toast for breakfast with high fruit jam and no butter, veg packed spag bol for lunch and tuna salad with seed mix for dinner. And dh is about to make me a peppermint tea to go for a bath with.

I am going to do this properly - I am I am

yoyo · 02/01/2007 20:30

I have to watch it tonight. I will not be able to resist the reviews and then won't feel like watching the video. I am doing wine tonight but I will not do it tomorrow or the day after. I can and will be good..just not tonight!!

How about you WWW - have you given in or is that steely determination to resist winning out?

charliegal · 02/01/2007 20:44

I'm in too! Have a 6 week old baby so can't do the going to bed early thing..will try the rest. Have to finish the cadbury's off tomight though.
Bailey's has been my Christmas drink (how common), I'm thinking the same as www- can't watch This Life+10 without a drink.
Am going to try and do some Pilates every day and already started with water.

unknownrebelbang · 02/01/2007 23:13

Still hoovering up the Christmas leftovers, but until teatime ate healthy-ish, with plenty of fruit and water, and declined DH's offer of vino tonight.

Had a brisk stroll round town but exercise bike stuck in garage until tomorrow.

Am going to bed vv soon, this is probably where I need most discipline, lol.

Monkeytrousers · 02/01/2007 23:37

I'm up too late!

Things going great until went to MIL's but still an improvement on previous days.

Found the green tea - do they count as water??

WideWebWitch · 03/01/2007 08:09

I managed it, watched This Life + 10 in bed WITHOUT WINE! And then had a reasonably early night, was def asleep by 11.15

Am eating granola while I type this and taking a smoked salmon sandwich to work for lunch.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 03/01/2007 08:10

AND I took my make up off last night, AND I used cream on my heels AND I've used body lotion all over this morning. Am pleased with myself.

OP posts:
Pann · 03/01/2007 08:28

May I join too??

Have been ill for last few days, so sleeping pattern completely messed up, but do need to get back into a 'early-bed' habit. Specific goals work better from me rather than a 'wish list' approach. No booze or any other 'substances' consumed or planned. And will work out how Mars' melonin can assist in me not doing sunscreen!!

winnie · 03/01/2007 08:35

WWW, I didn't open a bottle either & felt extremely virtuous eating clementines instead

Yesterday was a good day (other than the one indulgence).

Have a good day everyone

McDreamy · 03/01/2007 08:37

Well no alcohol for me last night but I was still feeling crap so not much of an achievement really! Feeling a little better today so I am going to start eating more fruit (haven't got much of an appetite but this is a good thing ). Also going to challenge myself to drink more water.

yoyo · 03/01/2007 08:41

Well done WWW and Winnie. I have had my first glass of water and am about to have muesli. Spending the day in London which is usually problematic with food (children not me I might add). I have every confidence that today is going to be good though and the happiness quotient will most definitely be high.
