It's brilliant! Not once did I have to unceremoniously hoik the crotch of my tights back up

Thanks for the tip :)

I used to do this but when pregnant with DS the back of my dress got stuck in the second pair of pants, I walked out into the pub with my mega arse in two pairs of pants on display. DH thought it was very funny and even I laughed, once I'd got over the shame.

honeyharris · 16/02/2016 15:42

I'd have thought that had thrush written all over it? Coming from someone who can't wear microfibre pants or anything too nylony without being visited by the dreaded bird

mkinsey · 16/02/2016 15:42

This is great but approach with caution!

Back in the day when I was doing silver service waitressing for weddings I wore pants/black tights/bright pink pants, and the uniform was a black skirt. I had to carry a tray of champagne flutes over a grass lawn to guests as they were leaving the Church. It was very windy and I needed both hands to keep the tray steady and not drop the champagne. Lo and behold a gust of wind blew my skirt up, exposing my bright pink knickers over my tights and I couldn't do anything about it Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 16/02/2016 15:52

I did this when pg and promptly got thrush. It took fecking ages to get rid of (the rest of my pregnancy plus 18 months breastfeeding), so possibly it was pregnancy/bf hormone-related rather than normal thrush, though. But I did it recently over a crappy pair of woolly tights which had been sliding down all morning and it was bliss. Bliss I tells ye! You do go through an awful lot of pants doing the pants-tights-pants thing, though.

zeetea · 16/02/2016 15:53

I've never thought about this problem before but it does exist - I'm a size 10 and buy Large tights as that's the only way I found they don't fall down, but during they day they do end up pooling around my ankles :(

My colleague swears by stockings, but I don't trust the stickiness of them enough, I'd be too worried about them falling completely down as I dash for my train (or bend over whilst filing Shock )

Barnum · 16/02/2016 15:54

I have this problem all the time.....however do you need a pair of big pants to go over the tights? I mean I'm guessing that bikini style would not do the job.....

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/02/2016 15:55

I tried it and though it worked I didn't like it, felt too bummfly so I hit on the idea of using a very small style, but size too big thong as the top pair, works a treat and doesn't make me feel like I'm wearing a nappy.

SoupDragon · 16/02/2016 15:57

I imagine it only encourages thrush if you are prone to it anyway. Much like all the other "doesn't that give you thrush?!" things.

I used to do the pants-tights-pants sandwich all the time - I'm surprised it is a surprise to anyone :) I guess I learnt about it at school.

LovelyFriend · 16/02/2016 15:59

well the hospital called me geriatric when I was PG - still 8 years on my tights thankfully do not fall down.

DD2's do though bless her, she's only 4 - I solve this by putting cycle shorts over the top (well it is winter).

Furiosa · 16/02/2016 16:00

Oh my god! This has just reminded me of when I first started wearing bras and found them so uncomfortable I put a vest on first then my bra over the top Blush

I thought it was a good idea until my mum noticed and laughed at me.

Stripeybeachhut · 16/02/2016 16:00

Why have I never thought to do this. Genius.

Sallycinnamum · 16/02/2016 16:05

I've been wearing my tights like this for 25 years but I don't wear pants under my tights as too bulky, just over the top.

I thought everyone wore their tights this way!!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 16/02/2016 16:08

I seem to recall that in the nineties I wore mostly bodies (leotard type things) rather than tops to work. Or lacy body stocking swimsuit type things underneath tops but over tights. They gave me a nice, tucked in kind of feeling.

Purple52 · 16/02/2016 16:13

Yup! M&S stay up!

victoryinthekitchen · 16/02/2016 16:14

tights under jeans also very comfy in this cold weather, also tucking your pj top into the trousers lovely and snuggly at night (not v sexy tho').

Narp · 16/02/2016 16:17

I have been doing this since i was a teenager

CrownofStars · 16/02/2016 16:17

Furiosa, my Gran always did that. 😆

Narp · 16/02/2016 16:17

... (knickers over tights, I mean)

originalmavis · 16/02/2016 16:17

I've been wearing my tights like this for 25 years

Are they not due a wee wash by now?

ColdCottage · 16/02/2016 16:20

Also rather than buying expensive made for the job shorts/pants to stop the tops of your legs rubbing together just buy a super cheap pair of leggings and cut them off just above the knee (they spring up a bit you see). Avoids having to wear tights or leggings in warmer weather.

LettuceLaughton · 16/02/2016 16:22

Furiosa - my great aunt always wore her bra over her vest too, I never understood but she swore it was very comfortable.

Mouseinahole · 16/02/2016 16:25

I always referred to " over the top knickers" usually with a light control as opposed to " underneath knickers" which were always pure cotton.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/02/2016 16:31

I always do this. It's the only way I can wear tights.

I wear a light support pant over the top, gives a good line.

Scornedwoman67 · 16/02/2016 16:33

This has reminded me of a traumatic incident a few years back rushing across London Bridge on the way to work - and feeling my tights gradually roll down my legs to the point they were round my knees and I had to walk to work looking like I'd poo'd myself - knees together, swinging my ankles in a rather strange shuffly-motion.
I could feel the draught.... :)

Sallycinnamum · 16/02/2016 16:33

Ha! I wish I could get into the tights I was wearing 25 years ago when I was skinny.

Now I need a more robust waistband!
