29 crepes a leaping.......

magimedi · 10/02/2016 19:33

Well, I've grabbed the bull by the horns & am leaping into the new thread........

Felt very sad no one else had started one whilst I scoffed dined.

If no one like the title I am more than happy to have it deleted & go with anything else.

DH has taken over the catering for the month of February......... the food is good but the angst is another matter Grin

You are indeed a star, BTM. Really cracking on with it!

Rudy, hope you'll be able to reveal all on 12 March. I bet we'll be able to help, even if only by being supportive.

hattymattie · 04/03/2016 18:27

BTM - how have you escaped Katnis? I'm going to introduce you to my friend who didn't know what Brexit was - she thought it sounded like a breakfast cereal(she's right there).

Anyway - am drinking red wine by myself after a heavy day chatting with first one friend, then another. Tomorrow - grim day of ironing awaits.

Collymollypuff · 04/03/2016 18:49

Don't iron, hattie! Be a slob like me. Wink

I'm off to Middle Earth England for pfb birthday which happily coincides with mother's day. See you on the other side! Hope you are all showered with adoration on Sunday... Wink

herbaceous · 04/03/2016 19:19

I also am a slob. Might iron something just before I put it on, but this is a once-in-six-monthly event. Life's too short.

DS had a school trip to the Jewish Museum today. DP has just asked him what he learned. His only reply: "The ark was made from Italian walnut."

Lalsy · 04/03/2016 19:24

Herbs GrinGrin, that is so sweet.

Hatty, don't iron.

bigTillyMint · 04/03/2016 20:19

I'm a non - ironing slob too!

Hatty, I know what Brexit is! Those fantasy/teen - type books/films have totally passed our family by!

Molly, enjoy!

I have given DM her card and chocs for Sunday, but she seemed more interested in moving to her new (again!) room! She was talking about the other residents (whilst in the sitting room all together) in a loud voice but no one batted an eyelid! On Tuesday she told me in a loud voice (her loud voice always embarrased me as a child/teen) that she could "marry everyone in here" GrinShe was also very interested in one old girls visitor and later told me it was her father. He was her son! She is fine in there. My stress is now going to be how to clear and sell the houseConfused

CremoLafoam · 04/03/2016 20:31

But I have, or Dh has to iron cotton work shirts. Can't see any way around it except to wear polyester shirts. Beurch.Grin
I like a bit of zen ironing, listening to an audiobook, rewarding self with cup of tea and a walk out with the herd.
And I used to be SO urban!

bigTillyMint · 04/03/2016 20:37

DH and DS (DD did but now non-uniform) wear non-crease/drip - dry shirts. DSs (adult) school trousers are fabulously non - creasing and look shiny new after each wash!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/03/2016 20:49

My dss wear non-iron shirts. They tumble dry and are good to go. H and M do nice ones and they're dead cheap too.

well helloooo

NUFC69 · 04/03/2016 20:59

Joins Hatty at the ironing board. I find it quite therapeutic and that's when I watch something that I have recorded that I know DH isn't interested in. I am currently conflicted as I bought some new bedding last year (super king sized duvet, plus covers, etc.) and one of the covers looks like a rag after it's washed. It doesn't matter if I line dry it, or tumble it, the result is awful. Trouble is it's so bad that I can't bear it on the bed unless it's ironed and it's v a s t ...

DSis is back from her month's holiday and is already irritating me. Blush Am idly engaging in day dreams as to what rubbish she will get me for my birthday later this month.

Good luck with the house clearance, BTM.

magimedi · 04/03/2016 22:57

Have not ironed since about 2004 when I had a shoulder op & my surgeon told me that full recovery was 100% possible but I would (sadly) never be able to either iron or paint (DIY type paint) ever again.

I have been a good patient & followed his instructions ever since!

BTM - my mother, once in a home, took me in to her confidence & (sotto voce) told me that she really thought that the man she married might well have been my father!!

Don't stress about clearing the house - you have done wonders on this visit & sounds as if you have achieved masses.

The big one being that your mum is OK in the home. That's worth so very much.

Next time you go you can then think about the house - please don't worry about it for now.

I iron some of my stuff. I believe Mr Inferior's work shirts require ironing, or at least he seems to spend a fair amount of time at the ironing board.

I have been to a pub theatre with DD1 and had three (3, iii) glasses of wine and am Distinctly Tiddly because I am an old gimmer. Time was when this wouldn't have touched the sides.Shock

herbaceous · 04/03/2016 23:41

DP irons his work shirts, what with being an adult with arms and everything. DS's school uniform is just polo shirts, which don't need ironing. Ironing bedding is a waste of time, as it gets creased as soon as you get into bed.

Had a dear friend round for impromptu dinner, cooked by DP, of seafood risotto. We drank champagne. I am a bit drunk.

Lalsy · 05/03/2016 07:39

dh irons his shirts. Given the disparity in our working hours, I feel duty bound to offer but sadly he thinks I can't iron for toffee.

Magi, your good patient story reminded me of the lovely midwife who delivered ds at home. She met my MIL (who disapproves of food and rest) the next day, took one look at her and said "Lalsy will be fine IF she stays in bed with a good supply of dark chocolate" Grin

BTM, I am so pleased about your dm. Well done on getting her sorted and settled. And Magi is right, try not to worry too much about the house and stuff - you can only do so much at once and you've had a very stressful time. Are you going back up in the Easter hols?

Trying to get ds interested in doing something in the holidays - blood from stone. dd however has brightly said she'd love a couple of days out with me Grin.

CremoLafoam · 05/03/2016 07:53

It must be known that Dh does the majority of the ironing.BlushGrin
GGG I like those shirts v much. Perhaps a stealthy replacement over time...... Thanks for the link.

I am trying to buy new jeans. Why is this So Hard? I find my shape has changed so much. Everything wobbly bits has moved to the middle of my body and my hips are narrow. And most jeans are made for giraffes I find. The pair I wanted in Marksies has sold out.

NU you have made a rod for your own back. Easier to buy a bedspread to go over wrinkled quilt -non?
Grin

hattymattie · 05/03/2016 08:29

I appear to have inadvertently started an ironing debate! I do like smooth pillow cases, do not do sheets but do iron duvet cover - waves to NU. I iron DH's shirts as I only work part time so I reckon that's fair plus anything cotton always seems to need going over. I use it as an excuse to watch trashy tv like Come Dine With Me which is unjustifiable otherwise.

Very light sprinkling of sleety snow here this morning.

Rosebag · 05/03/2016 08:35

tilly you've made such great progress with your DM. I guess the house needs to be gradual process, doesn't it. And the eventual sale can be completely handled by the estate agent, viewings etc, while you're not around. Flowers

rudy hang on in there. Flowers. It'll be good to MU on 12th.

I have never ironed any of the DCs gear. Had my way of folding straight from whatever drying source was used, and this somehow dealt with most of the creases. My darling cleaner does DHs shirts although he always did them himself previously. Since I gave up FT work, I don't see to have any clothes that actually need ironing Blush. And I am that sad person who loves ironed sheets.... Blush

I am hiding in my room. DM seems to be enjoying the break. Had amazing sunshine yesterday. Stopped in nice pub half way down the A24 and on arrival took her walking ( very slowly) to the seafront with later tea at village tearoom. Today I have booked us in for lunch at favourite spa hotel that I have a habit of frequenting. She wants another potter around the village this morning. It all sounds sedate and easy but I am incomprehensibly tired.

cremo I know no one who doesn't end up nearly in tears trying to buy jeans....I'd settle for a pair of any description that doesn't crawl up my fanny by lunchtime Grin

motherinferior · 05/03/2016 09:00

Rose, your exhaustion is totally comprehensible!

I am going round and round in circles with work and everything else which is probably also comprehensible but I feel v bad about it all the same. Must go and practise for tonight.

herbaceous · 05/03/2016 09:11

I can heartily recommend Levi's Demi curve jeans. Accommodate womanly curves something lovely, and don't cut across the thighs like other jeans. They're often on offer in TKMaxx. Or get a lovely crepey to send you a pair!

motherinferior · 05/03/2016 09:30

Herbs, Levi's has stopped doing them!!!

magimedi · 05/03/2016 09:30

Gap - Real Straight - have done me well for the past few years.

But I just know they will get changed & then I'll have to find another make.

Just like Levi's Demi curve Grin

I bought a load of Toast jeans on sale for about a fiver each a while back and I do love them.

wordassociationfootball · 05/03/2016 09:31

Non ironer.

I hate clothes crawling up my nethers and am reaching more and more for my stash of Full Briefs.

Those looking for jeans, I may already have said but Sainsbury's seem to gave employed someone who knows what shape bodies are and how to beJean them not unflatteringly. Did and I are both impressed. Her black skinnies only £14.

Brunch here with oldest pal. Then to see friend with nearly new babe, then to Epsom to see Mum.

Still enjoying weekends without 6/7 hours writing slotted into them but feel an urge to start planning next novel.... Maybe in a week or two.

bigTillyMint · 05/03/2016 09:43

Have stopped at the services for coffee and a granola bar having made astoundingly good time so far. It will all go pear-shaped now!

Lalsy, where are all these jeans for giraffes? Most are ankle-swingers in me, though I can usually find something in Gap. The sales assistants in NYC told me Levis are no longer making Demicurve so I got the new version, which are great.

herbaceous · 05/03/2016 10:15

NO MORE DEMI CURVE? What are they thinking!

I also have some jeans from matalan and peacocks. Both surprisingly good! My one pair of sainsburys jeans go massive in the waist and fall down. Maybe they've improved of late.

Feeling disproportionately hungover today. Two bottles of fizz between three last night has not agreed with me. And I have to spend three hours in a rehearsal for DS's production of Oliver this afternoon. With millions of shrieking children.
