Well, I've grabbed the bull by the horns & am leaping into the new thread........

Felt very sad no one else had started one whilst I scoffed dined.

If no one like the title I am more than happy to have it deleted & go with anything else.

DH has taken over the catering for the month of February......... the food is good but the angst is another matter Grin

Flowers Mrs S.

Strppps very telling and heart warming about the critter-love.

magimedi · 03/03/2016 09:51

Stropps - delighted to hear about your DD. I bet you still feel you are holding your breath, though. Try to let a bit out Grin

Lovely day here - about to go to town to purchase euros (hedging against Brexit) & new battery for my vape as old one died last night. And a walk along the sea front is in order. Have had shockingly little exercise for the last 10 days or so as have not swum, owing to lurgy.

wordassociationfootball · 03/03/2016 10:47

Lovely and sunny here too MM. A new vape battery: just what the doctor would order post-lurgy Grin

Here I had to drive the dd's as dd1 (Y9) didn't want the world to see her Aslan efforts - a fetching combo of wild tawny backcombing and liony make up (by Waf). DD1's fishtail (not mermaid, got that wrong) plaits went the usual route: Me telling her to keep still, doing it about three times whilst muttering about how rubbish I am at hair, her pulling it out by the time we left. Always the same....

Am off with laptop to work at Epsom hospital while Mum has her hip replaced. Thought I might as well stay 'til she wakes up, which she is charmingly touched by. Sort of feel she's more likely to wake up if I'm there iykwim.

How's your Dad, Crem?

Rosebag · 03/03/2016 13:26

Stropps I'm glad to hear some options are opening up for DD, even if she sticks with a different route, it's nice to get a manageable offer. Would they let her defer for a year?

waf Good luck with DM's op Flowers

Magi I am bringing DM to a place not a million miles away from where you are this weekend. How I would love to be walking the Sussex coastal path today....what beautiful weather. Stropps MrsS my problem with DM is I get irritated over things she probably can't help. She rarely sets out to be unpleasant or hurtful though. She's quite a caring person really, although her personality was very much altered during DDad's illness. I have started what'll probably be one of my three day headaches in anticipation.....much codeine has already been swallowed.

MrsS Yesterday's reassuring news would probably have warranted an illicit snog, I would say... how does she do it

Have at last got meetings set up with ConS and sexy potential director...but not together...feeling a bit the the "gofer" at the moment Hmm. The latter has sent me a promotional vid of the play he's taking to Edinburgh. Envy Envy Envy

magimedi · 03/03/2016 13:40

Rose - the whole of Eastbourne sea front will be closed to traffic on Sunday am as it is the Eastbourne half marathon.

Just in case you decided to come here for a walk!

It was lovely & warm enough (sheltered from the wind) to sit & enjoy the sunshine.

Rosebag · 03/03/2016 14:04

Actually, Magi my place is in West Sussex, but I'll wave.... Smile

motherinferior · 03/03/2016 14:17

Good luck all dealing with aged rellies today. (My mum is not madly looking forward to her meeting - actually she must be there now - about the spread of her tumour.)

In cheerier news a friend rang me with a free ticket her husband doesn't want to a showing of Suffragette on Sunday. Up West with free glass of wine. I haven't seen it yet and it will count as an Outing. Am also taking DD1 to showing of Caucasian chalk circle at little artsy pub theatre near here tomorrow. And have practised for Saturday's concert. I'm all about the arts and culture today, innit.

motherinferior · 03/03/2016 16:33

And yet again it appears my dad made the meeting all about HIM AngryAngryAngryAngry

hattymattie · 03/03/2016 17:49

Hello crepies - back after a whirlwind tour of bits of England. Have skim read the thread but may have missed bits - but did see fantastic news for Mrs S - much relief, thank goodness; also that Stropps' DD is getting the offers in so great news there too.

I have been up north seeing parents - they are OK but you can tell DM something and she'll ask again five minutes later. She is not at the stage some of the aged parents are on this thread but it is very difficult and lonely for DF.

Did an open day at York uni - to solve the eternal question of York or Exeter, I think DD2 may go north - familiar territory to us. Lots of London parents there saying it was too expensive to live in London halls and that their child did not want to attend a London uni and stay at home. After that Cambs to visit DD1 and her friend - both under a bit of work pressure so that put things in perspective for DD2.

Was exhausted last night but watched the traumatic last episode of One Child and then had to watch Grantchester to recover.Wink Today, nice lunch with friends in Paris, interspersed with unpacking, laundry etc.

wordassociationfootball · 03/03/2016 17:53

Hattie I loved York when I went for a conference last year.

Am sitting with bunch of waiting room mags before seeing if I can see Mum. They have all the latest glossies - wont be rushing.

herbaceous · 03/03/2016 17:54

I am still traumatised after going to see The Revenant last night. Amazing film, but viscerally violent. And I shall never (well, for a few days) complain about being cold again. Poor beardy Leo clawed his way with a broken leg over 100s of miles of frozen wastelands, tumbled down frozen streams, and resorted to sleeping in a recently dead horse.

BUT

What cockery is this? I appear to have SPD. I had it when pregnant with DS, and now it has returned. I thought it was supposed to be hormone related, and that at Our Age such hormones aren't really around any more. It's making doing any exercise difficult. Apart from swimming, which seems to help...

magimedi · 03/03/2016 17:56

Hattie I lived in Exeter about 12+ years ago & did some work at the university.

Do you want a PM with my thoughts??

OP posts:
motherinferior · 03/03/2016 18:02

My ex teaches at York uni...

hattymattie · 03/03/2016 18:04

Thanks MM that's really kind - I may come back to you but I want it to be her decision. We did visit Exeter in the summer and it is a great campus - but I think she likes the course at York more.

I am more worried about the Brexit at the moment - I got the impression that it's going to happenSad - I'm looking at becoming French!

Herbs - I'm dying to see The Revenant. Not sure what SPD is - going to Google.

wordassociationfootball · 03/03/2016 18:14

Could you post any thoughts on my round-shouldered shirt thread please girls.

CremoLafoam · 03/03/2016 18:37

Willco WAF , reading now.

Hatty , nice to see you back! Glad the trip was useful to dd2. Always helps to concentrate the mind.

Much strength to you Mi with impending family visitations.

Ddad phoned yesterday to say that they won't sell the house in France. He's looking a bit better today; we had coffee this afternoon. The house was not on the agenda to be chatted about though. He wouldn't be drawn on anything financial. Ho hum.

Herbs belated congratulations to ds and his winning ways. He sounds like a super wee gent!

BTM , glad the home seems to be ok, and that you had a good catchup with old friend.

Had to have a wee name change for testing a Mumsnet app. ( I seem to be on some kind of panel)Confused

herbaceous · 03/03/2016 19:12

I'm hoping Brexit doesn't happen. I like being in Europe. And it tempers the more rabid elements of this government.

Hattie - SPD is symphasis pubis dysfunction. Basically when the front of your pelvis (at fanny front) separates. V painful.

hattymattie · 03/03/2016 19:17

Ouch - Herbs - that sounds horrible. I didn't know such a thing existed.

Stropperella · 03/03/2016 20:31

Ouchy-McOuch, Herbs, you should go and get that checked out.

Thanks for the good wishes for dd. I have no illusions about the likelihood of her doing particularly well in her exams, what with one thing and another, but that's all a side issue compared to her getting better. It is going to be a long road back to recovery for her, but at least it would seem that she has now made her first steps back up after her 5-year downward trajectory. At least, I hope that is what's happening.
The critter love continues, although Stroppdog is most peeved by the reappearance of a rodent in the house. He goes into dd's room, clutching his squeaky rat toy in his mouth, and stands in front of the cage, glaring at the hamster and squeaking the rat menacingly. The message is fairly clear, I reckon.

I have done all my reports. It actually took v little time, once I'd got down it. Have now realised that having spent 17 years writing for a living, writing reports is actually v easy. Consult teaching notes; consult self; consult old reports; write. My colleagues were all: "eh, how did you do that so quickly?" Note to self: try to remember this when having another sleepless night because of something I am convinced I will not be able to do. Wtf was I fussing about? I wrote bazillions of bloody reports in my previous teaching life...

Stropperella · 03/03/2016 20:39

Brexit, now that is giving me nightmares. Please no. If Trump wins in the US, Brexit happens and Boris takes over in the UK, I'm becoming a Norwegian cheesegrower.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 03/03/2016 20:43

If all those things happen we can all go to Norway / Iceland / somewhere not too far away and found a Crepey commune...

hattymattie · 03/03/2016 21:00

Stropps - there is going to be Brexit plus Europe stuck between Trump and Putin, plus a refugee crisis - I never felt at all panicky about the world before. Iceland is definitely looking good - especiallly with global warming.

hattymattie · 03/03/2016 21:01

Now I'm watching lovely Mary and Pompeii.

NUFC69 · 03/03/2016 21:03

So relieved for you, MrsS. I hope DM is recovering well from her hip operation, WAF? How long will she be in hospital? I have decided to bite the bullet and make an appointment with the GP about having my other knee replaced; I am increasingly having to use a walking stick. I intend to see the doc sometime during the next couple of months as I don't want anything done until we come back from the US in September. (This will probably mean that we have a really bad winter with lots of snow, which is what happened last time.)

Herbs, the SPD sounds horrendous: you must see someone about it. Well done to DS! Stropps, I am so pleased that you seem to have turned a corner with DD. Welcome home, Hatty. I like York so I can understand why DD wants to go there, particularly if the course is right, too.

Crem, I am sorry that you are in a bad place with DPs, it must be very trying. MI, your DDad isn't going to change now (not helpful, I know), but you're doing a marvellous job supporting DM. Thanks

We had a lovely day, too, MM - I had bedding out on the line and it actually dried. It's pouring now, though, and might turn to snow.

DD's birthday on Saturday, and we've been invited round for lunch on Sunday. Only another week of peace and quiet before DS and family get back from Jamaica.

Stropperella · 03/03/2016 21:06

I'm already learning Russian, Hatty. I have lots of potential for practising my rudimentary conversational Russian in my new job. Smile
