Found this yesterday. The shop has no fitting room or mirrors Confused and the dress has no labels so I had to just hope it fitted me when I got it home. It cost £5.99.

It did Grin.

Has anyone else had a good find recently?

Place marking as I love a bargain!!

Wombat87 · 31/01/2016 18:36

Has anyone London based tried the posh charity shops ? I really want to go and investigate and see if I can find an amazing bargain but have no idea about it.

eddtheduck · 31/01/2016 18:37

Bought a Kenwood chef for a tenner once, and a beautiful cashmere coat for £12. I love charity shopping.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 31/01/2016 18:44

Lovely dress, OP. Love a good charity shop bargain. I need to have a look in my local ones again- lots of well-heeled types in the area so there should be some gems.

Damselindestress · 31/01/2016 18:45

That's gorgeous! Great bargain! I love charity shops.

On a side note, I didn't think grown adults actually said pathetic things like "has Halloween come early" about people wearing black - secondary school flashback!

Donge13 · 31/01/2016 18:45

Ashamed to say I've never been in a charity shopBlush
Shall be popping in the one in town tomorrow

JustWantMyMoneyBack · 31/01/2016 18:46

If you enjoy a treasure hunt, Donge, they are food fun!

Jitterybug · 31/01/2016 18:52

Fab finds! I am new to charity shop shopping but picked up a gorgeous black bouclé jacket with gold thread running through from m&s for £2 yesterday Grin. It's a bit big though, hoping it will work anyway.

HappenstanceMarmite · 31/01/2016 18:53

I also found an oak Mulberry East West Bayswater for £10 a while back - had it checked and it's genuine

Let's see!!!

LieselMeminger · 31/01/2016 18:53

I got these brand new boots for £2 :)

Got a Whistles silver linen-mix brocade skirt for a fiver yesterday. Needs a bit of altering but at that price who's arguing?

Love those boots liesel!

LazySusan11 · 31/01/2016 19:08

Where the bloody hell are you all finding such great stuff?! my local ones are all either grim 1980's tat or last of the summer wine style. Confused

ShitFacedTinyTim · 31/01/2016 19:11

Ooh, that looks like a ChiChi London dress, OP- they are about £75- nice work!! There are often lovely whistles dresses in my local cancer research, always the ones I desperately want.... Except the woman who donated is a 16 and I am a 10 Angry

I did get a £295 whistles coat with the tags still in for £6 last winter though....

deepdarkwood · 31/01/2016 19:15

I got a pair of Levi curves and a reiss coat last week - both hardly worn, £14 for both. Chuffed to bits :-)

Awks · 31/01/2016 19:16

I got some while Birkies last week for 50p. They looked a bit grimy but I put them in the machine and dried on the radiator and they look like new now. I'd never wear them enough to pay full price but at 50p I can't moan. Not long till the car boots start again, too :)

AustinAmbassadorYReg · 31/01/2016 19:21

Last week I had £20 left to buy an outfit to wear to a friend's wedding reception. I traipsed around the sales for hours, and finally gave up, trying to hold back the tears as I realised I'd have to pretend I was ill and couldn't go Sad. I decided to have one last look in the Salvation Army, and wo and behold - I found a beautiful ballgown for £5, a pair of matching heels for £2, and a silk shawl for 99p! So my whole outfit cost me only £7.99!!

I was thrilled beyond belief, looked amazing on the night (if I do say so myself!) and even had enough money left over to buy myself a couple of drinks. I donated the outfit back to the shop afterwards aswell, and I'll definately be back in there next time I need an outfit on a budget Smile

Wombat, I've been to charity shops in Hampstead, Chelsea and Notting Hill. Most charity shops will do a comparison with eBay, so it depends what you're looking for. I am not much of a shopper and went with friends. One got a Dress for about £80, tags still on, Google said it should have been just under £500. Another got louboutins for a price I can't recall but about a quarter of sale price, looked unworn

I only got a non designer bag for about a tenner, an evening bag but it's a very unusual design and I'm always asked about it.

I don't think it's worth making special trips, but if you're in the area that's different, I often use Hampstead to meet people in summer because of the Heath.

Hahaha!! Grin Yes, sometimes you do have to spend quite a while rummaging for the really good stuff. Roughly, where do you live? One of us might be able to recommend the best ones.

TheHumanSatsuma · 31/01/2016 19:28

My beautiful navy wool and cashmere coat. Worn to 4 funerals, a wedding and at least 3 posh nights out in Winter. £6.50 from British Red Cross and still looks new 8 years on.

DeputyPecksBentBeak · 31/01/2016 19:30

I found a pair of beautiful nude Nine West heels for £4. I bought them to be a bridesmaid and, even more a bargain, ended up wearing them to my own wedding a few months later, too

Corygal1 · 31/01/2016 19:34

Burberry trainers, unworn, still on sale for 280, 2 quid. 2 pairs. Not remotely Katona, either. From a couple who work at Burberry and donate regularly.

I volunteer in charity shops - have done for years - in central London, and I will start a thread with my tips if anyone wants to read it.

tiggy2610 · 31/01/2016 19:37

I'm from Holmfirth so my local charity shops actually are full of last of the summer wine material Envy

228agreenend · 31/01/2016 19:37

OP - you look fab. Great find.

I tend to only buy books and cards in charity shops, despite donating regularly.
