Found this yesterday. The shop has no fitting room or mirrors Confused and the dress has no labels so I had to just hope it fitted me when I got it home. It cost £5.99.

It did Grin.

Has anyone else had a good find recently?

Ooh, yes!

SirChenjin · 31/01/2016 19:38

My best charity shop buy is a worn once pair of Russell and Bromley suede boots for £13 - looked them up online and they cost around £300! Best boots ever - completely waterproof too.

Also - gorgeous velvet coat from Principles for a few quid. Love that coat - sadly it seems to have shrunk in the wash Blush

Charity shops are ace.

BikeRunSki · 31/01/2016 19:41

last of the summer wine style

Ironically, the (many) charity shops of Homfirth (where LOTSW was filmed) are worth the trip (although I only live 8 miles away).

FlatOnTheHill · 31/01/2016 19:49

Beautiful dress. I love charity shops.

AmberNectarine · 31/01/2016 19:50

I live in a naice part of London (think tennis) so they charge a bit more but there are some good finds. I got a pair of brand new Chanel shoes for £95, wear them loads for work.

FlatOnTheHill · 31/01/2016 19:53

Amber
I quite often go to the vintage shops in the East End of London. Commercial Street. Myself and my son love charity stuff and vintage. Im 48 and he's 15. Lol. We love clothes.

HeyYouGetOffMyCloud · 31/01/2016 19:59

For those who don't find stuff, you do have to be prepared to pop in frequently.......It's all about timing and you have to be prepared to leave empty-handed most of the time.

I once followed a very smart woman in who was off-loading all her nursery stuff - 3 beautiful pictures, a rug and a chest of drawers and I just asked the assistant what she'd charge me. Think it was about a £15 for the lot.

dd was a week overdue and we were renovating a house with almost zero left for a nursery. I could have wept.

gincamelbak · 31/01/2016 20:10

The only good thing I've bought in a charity recently was 1.5m pinstripe wool like material. No label. Have made a skirt and still lots left. £1.50.

My local charity shop is full of either old lady clothes or my old clothes.

YaySirNaySir · 31/01/2016 20:11

Lovely dress you look fabulous and I like your lipstick colour.
I love a Charity shop bargain- last year I got a lovely Kaliko dress for £5.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/01/2016 20:34

The nearest town to us is "Naice" but the charity shop stuff is dross. My hairdresser goes to one and gets lots of stuff but female colleagues say they find less.

He's always telling me his finds.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/01/2016 20:35

You lucky people. My local shop smells of moth balls and mainly stocks asda and primark at more than the original cost yet are well worn. They only good finds are stuff I've donated myself lol

TornNotTorn · 31/01/2016 20:42

You need perseverance, and a willingness to buy anything that grabs you. Going in with a specific thing in mind will always end up in failure (except my wedding dress, bargain of the century from an Oxfam wedding shop). I schlep around the charity shops most weeks and have had some amazing things, 3 Orla Kiely bags on seperate occasions, lovely Fly boots, a gorgeous, brand new Aquascutum cashmere coat, designer jeans and too many beautiful jumpers to count. Enough Lego to sink a battleship. Lots of great homeware and furniture too. I don't buy a thing brand new anymore. But it's all luck- the truly great stuff won't hang around, but if you're in there at just the right time, you're laughing. I don't live in a particularly affluent area but the charity shops here have got wise- none of the smelly old granny rags of old, the stuff that is put on sale is all good quality. The nearest university town is a gold mine.

AnyoneButAndre · 31/01/2016 20:47

I posted these on a thread a while ago, but I loooove these boots. Clarks, brand new, the top folds down to give you a choice of look, and so comfy despite the height. I'd never have thought to get them at full price, but in Help the Aged they suddenly leapt out at me.

LK Bennett Cardigan is not exactly edgy and trendy, but it's a lovely silk lined wool and very handy as an evening cover up - again I wouldn't have bought it at the original 150 quid or whatever but for 15 it's a very useful buy.

And I got a fantastic Hobbs sample jacket in my favourite colour for a tenner in BHF. I won't do a photo of that one because I wear it so often to work that it would totally out me Grin and because it's a sample nobody else has one quite like it.

People keep saying "naice" ?
Do they mean nice. Im I behind on something? Sorry need to know Smile

SirChenjin · 31/01/2016 20:56

It's a MN thing - sort of poncey nice, as in 'naice ham' (from Waitrose at the very least, but preferably from some artisan deli which charges 3 times the going rate because They Saw You Coming)

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 31/01/2016 20:57

I found a Gloverall duffle coat for £30 in my local Age Concern shop yesterday. Like this one but in sage green. Barely worn and fits beautifully. I've been coveting one for years Smile

bluebump · 31/01/2016 20:58

I generally find I pick up the best bits if I pop into the charity shops straight after the school run if I'm not at work, if I go on a Saturday the best bits have usually gone. I do go regularly though, I like a rummage!

In the last few months I've got a Phase Eight dress new with tags (£92) for £3 and a Jasper Conran new with tags (£55) debenhams one for £3 too and a load of useful White Stuff tops/blouses for work for £2. Everything in our Cancer Research shop is £3 or under so we can pick up some bargains.

wtffgs · 31/01/2016 21:01

Lovely OP. Have you got somewhere nice to wear it - although at that price you could just wear it at home, drink prosecco and channel Audrey Hepburn GrinWine

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 31/01/2016 21:06

Corygal1 - I will start a thread with my tips if anyone wants to read it

Yes please!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/01/2016 21:07

I scored a Brora cashmere cardi in a lovely cornflower blue, hardly worn, for £18 (would have been £200 - £250 new). Was in a rather 'counties' village I hardly ever have reason to go to. Will definitely make a regular journey now!

BikeRunSki · 31/01/2016 21:09

Vintage pure new wool, sheepskin and satin lined duffle coat, originally from Moss Bros (£12).

brand new black leather Converse boots (£12).

Black wool Jigsaw skirt, £1!

AnyoneButAndre · 31/01/2016 21:15

And yes please to a tips thread Corygal.

Corygal1 · 31/01/2016 21:49

Your wish is my command, Ladies. I will do it tomorrow; have to get The Strategy down in order....

princessconsuelabannahammock · 31/01/2016 22:01

I love a good charity shop and i live in a town with loads of them and pockets of well heeled inhabitants however ours are all full of primark and F&F bobbled and sweat marked tops that have lost their shape at close to their original sale price.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 31/01/2016 22:29

Gorgeous, but noone has been a cunt to you. I'm sure what Bum said was in gest
