Found this yesterday. The shop has no fitting room or mirrors Confused and the dress has no labels so I had to just hope it fitted me when I got it home. It cost £5.99.

It did Grin.

Has anyone else had a good find recently?

I bought a gorgeous Jaeger navy wool knitted dress the other day, for £8.00. I honestly don't think it had ever been worn. Similar ones are £160 on their website.

I can't resist a charity shop. Our local ones are stuffed with Boden, Phase Eight, LK Bennett and other quality brands. You gotta rummage, though

Ivytheterrible · 31/01/2016 22:57

I have great one near me! In the last month...
Hobbs 100% silk including lining plain black dress. £4
Reiss cardigan £3
Abercrombie and Fitch skirt, shorts and jumper £3 each
French connection jacket £4
Whistles 100% silk dress £4
Grin

TheExMotherInLaw · 31/01/2016 22:58

snapped this up last year for £6

Also a jack wills hoodie which isn't my thing but was £1 so am going to resell on eBay!

Pedestriana · 31/01/2016 23:13

Last Xmas got an LK Bennett Cardi in a local charity shop. It was 50p in the bargain bin. Looked it up when I got home, last season's style & colour (very slightly different from recent colour & style) and had retailed at £90

Corygal1 · 31/01/2016 23:22

Amber - well done you. We've had transfer stuff from your local shops and I have had crackers from stuff they've overpriced and failed to sell. Madeleine Thompson BNWT etc (incidentally, it was awful quality).

Richmond is notoriously worthy of harvest, too, but I don't like the equally vigorous overpricing.

LittleMissUpset · 31/01/2016 23:29

I'm quite new to charity shops but ours seem quite overpriced. In Halifax West Yorkshire, if anyone can recommend a nearby town with good ones I will travel!

I must go more when I'm in town just to look.

The best finds I've had have been wool for my crocheting Grin

Destinysdaughter · 31/01/2016 23:34

Gorgeous dress! I love going to posh areas as they always have the best charity shops. Smile

Destinysdaughter · 31/01/2016 23:43

There's some good charity shops near Victoria Station in London, good quality stuff and pretty trendy too!

JaceLancs · 31/01/2016 23:51

My most recent best buys were a Vivienne Westwood top with matching cashmere cardigan from Pure, also 2 M & S cashmere jumpers, I also bought some lovely Peter Kaiser shoes from one in Camden as I was on my way to a business appointment and the heel broke on my shoes, I was desperate! They turned out to be one of the comfiest pair of shoes I own, and have since bought 2 more pairs online

mumofsnotbags · 01/02/2016 07:02

I used to work in a charity shop a few years ago in one of the most run down parts of our city - I was forever wading through designer clothes and had a lovely wardrobe (and yes i did have to pay full price as a customer to buy it). I think a lot of the residents were big into signing on and working on the side so they always had money for the latest designer clothes then would offload it on us. The best thing i got was a mulberry tan across body bag for £19.99, it was before mulberry really took off, but then i soon saw every woman and her dog wearing a fake one so i got rid of mine.

Maybe that's the key though go to the rundown areas, don't just assume the best areas will have the best stuff. not everything donated to that shop will stay in that shop, stock is often spread across the area. The best area around here charges a fortune in every shop, yet the bad areas i go to regularly, just last week i got an oasis top £1, john rocha dress £2 and a river island dress £1. In fact i know what i'm doing today with my day off.Grin

Amber - do you mind sharing which particular charity shops are best? In the village or down the hill in the town?

AmberNectarine · 01/02/2016 09:42

Brit definitely Village - I've had some really good finds in Oxfam. I haven't tried the new Mary Portas shop yet but I walked past the other day and saw some lovely things in the window.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 01/02/2016 10:24

I love the dress op! We have got into a bit of a routine on Mondays: school and pre school drop, raid the charity shops and then sit in Costa and admire our buys! I can't imagine shopping for books and toys in a 'real' shop ever again!

Dowser · 01/02/2016 11:39

A cheeky question...are you lucky ladies a size 8-10. I'm a 14-16 depending on brand and the decent stuff is usually smaller!

I did get nice Hobbs boots for about £12 but that was Wiltshire way. Also some lovely vintage style brand new hotter shoes....dont laugh...they are very roaring twenties style. They were £15 and I got them in Peebles. Wear them loads whenfeet swell..Nothing like that in our locals

wonkylegs · 01/02/2016 11:47

My most recent find was a lovely Mint Velvet Silk & Jersey dress, not usually my thing but works well as a maternity dress with my burgeoning bump - £3

happygoluckylady · 01/02/2016 11:47

I've done really well. Off the top of my head: few DVF dresses, Kate Spade handbag, Philip Lim top, YSL coat. You need to be persistent and go to the right shops in the right areas.

umiaisha · 01/02/2016 11:59

I don't often find anything nice for me, but have better success with kids stuff.

Got a brand new Joules snowsuit for DD3 a few weeks back for £10 in Oxfam on Edgware Road. Have had similar success in the shops in Marylebone.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 01/02/2016 12:10

The list of stuff I've got from charity shops is enormous. £3 brand new Timberland boots (I did go back later and shove another fiver in the collecting box). More than one pair of birkies. All my dcs clothes when they were small. Dresses, coats, cardies, shorts with 'good' labels.

I've also got an increasingly large collection of Le Creuset (I valued it, allowing for only buying it in the sales at around £350 - and I've spent less than £20 on it.

A few days ago I was rummaging with dd3 (aged 8). She was really there to try to find 1970s Bunty annuals, but pulled out brand new suede clarks boots in her size for £2. Yes, I am proud of her Grin.

I know received wisdom is to go to better areas for the best charity shops, but I don't live in a desirable post code - and we have fabulous charity shops. In my experience 'nicer' areas tend to have overly Mary-Portassed charity shops, and charge ridiculous amounts for tatty offerings.

mumofsnotbags · 01/02/2016 15:17

On the back of this thread I used my morning wisely shopping for things I don't need in charity shops...this was my Best Buy today. A Marc Jacobs navy pure silk dress for £1.99.

Also got a river island dress, pair of office boots and a warehouse bag, all for the bargain price of £10. Actually came to £8 but I gave them the change for their box Smile

That is truly a fabulous find! I recently found a lovely semi-through blouse in a charity shop for £3 - I didn't bother trying it on as I knew if I didn't like it I'd just redonate it back. Of course I came out with a bootload of books too, including a £25 travel book with utterly amazing photos for £3, and an illustrated guide to fun things to do in the UK (£3). You also have the satisfaction of knowing you're not just 'shopping' - you're helping someone who needs your help. Win-win!

hollieberrie · 01/02/2016 16:10

On Saturday i got a lovely Jigsaw black fine knit jumper , super condition, £4 Grin . I'd never normally buy from brands like Jigsaw Hobbs and Whistles as they're too expensive for me , but thanks to charity shopping I have a few lovely items from all of them :)

Tenpastlate · 02/02/2016 10:32

Gorgeous dress!
Spurred on by this thread, I have just been into my local hospice shop, and found an amazing by Malene Birger jacket a teensy bit snug but I don't have to fasten the button for £6.99 😃

Smellyrose · 02/02/2016 11:33

has anyone got any charity shopping trips? I never find anything decent, and I do love a bargain!
