I always think the general contrast between things like NTAs and things like Oscars/BAFTAs is amazing. Folk trying to be stylish (and often failing due to trying too hard with clothes/hair/makeup and cheap or ill fitting clothing) versus proper style and glamour!

There are obvs some exceptions to the rule but that generally sums it up for me.

sleepwhenidie · 21/01/2016 08:52

Do you think there are more/simply better stylists available to the film stars (as opposed to the TV stars?)

sleepwhenidie · 21/01/2016 08:52

And more offers of high end designer frocks of course...

MarshaBrady · 21/01/2016 08:53

There really is, it's an interesting dynamic that so many looks end up in a similar tulle / ott etc style.

MarshaBrady · 21/01/2016 08:55

Yes offers of high end, custom dresses for sure, stylists and looks like much more pressure to be a slimmer shape in Hollywood too.

sleepwhenidie · 21/01/2016 08:55

Long story but my DH informed me that he will be going to LA in the next few months and meeting CT (who he keeps calling Tatum Channing, he genuinely has no idea who he is Hmm) and also Hugh Jackman. I am trying my best to persuade him that he needs my services as a PA for the trip but he isn't having any of it SadHmm

AmberNectarine · 21/01/2016 09:05

I thought Rochelle from the Saturdays looked really good. And time girl from Poldark. Otherwise it was slim pickings.

MarshaBrady · 21/01/2016 09:08

I need to look at a DM link that doesn't have the header worst dressed

Exciting Sleep!

shopafrolic · 21/01/2016 09:17

I think Amber may fight you for that job Sleep :)

QueenC · 21/01/2016 09:34

There's obviously better stylists and dresses available in Hollywood but I like the fact that at the oscars etc they go for glamour rather than try hard sexy. A lot of TV hollyoaks Stars seem to try too hard to dress what they imagine is sexy but actually because so many of them are young they'd look much better in funkier styles. A lot are also stick thin with overinflated boobs which can be hard to dress. But they know that even making the worse dressed lists gives them column inches so it's a win win situation for them really.

CT leaves me a bit cold tbh be he's upset about that but HJ is lovely, mheard him interviewed and seems a great guy. Can I come Sleep?

QueenC · 21/01/2016 10:56

You ok dry?
Did anyone stay up for the ines/Uniqlo stuff? I got this cardigan which has been shipped already!

OP posts:
sleepwhenidie · 21/01/2016 11:06

I was more excited about the HJ prospect too Dry Grin. I've asked DH if you can come and he doesn't seem to be budging...what's wrong?

Drywhitethanks · 21/01/2016 11:08

Funny turn in the shower Sad QueenC
I de la F , some nice bits. I like your cardigan very much. It's well designed, you could just buy the lot, it all coordinates really well. Tempted by a few bits Hmm

Drywhitethanks · 21/01/2016 11:10

Sleep HJ is much smaller IRL than he appears . Remember standing next to him at MMe T's and thinking what a shame. Colin Firth is surprisingly tall.

QueenC · 21/01/2016 11:17

I saw Tom Cruise once and he is tiny.

Look after yourself dry.

QueenC · 21/01/2016 11:19

So a question for you all....do you have something in your wardrobe that you love, it looks good on but doesn't look as good as something similar. Do you force yourself to wear it or bite the bullet and get rid.....?

OP posts:
sleepwhenidie · 21/01/2016 11:26

sorry - you are thinking of buying something but resisting because you have something like it already but not quite as nice? I would get rid and buy the best version!

Drywhitethanks · 21/01/2016 12:01

I think I get the question QueenC.
I've had many well loved garments that I've tried to replace and compromised you all know about this . I'd say don't settle for a mediocre version, or you'll end up with 3 meh navy dresses, 2 cream merino sweaters that are just that bit iffy and an ever increasing collection of kind-of-ok cream cotton blouses like me.
The answer ? If you can afford it buy two in the first place! Grin

QueenC · 21/01/2016 12:27

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear Grin. I have a grey blouse. I love the shape, style and everything about it. It looks good but I know that I look even better in navy so I kind of have to force myself to wear it iyswim. I'm just wondering whether i should try and sell it rather than making myself wear it. Or maybe I should just stop overthinking it Grin

QueenC · 21/01/2016 12:31

Another question....for those of you that buy boden...how long does it normally take them to receive the returned parcel. I returned something on 12th (have proof of postage) but boden don't yet have it. The guy on the phone seemed to think this was normal so maybe I should stop worrying?

OP posts:
sleepwhenidie · 21/01/2016 12:52

I think life is too short to force yourself wear anything Smile. But if I really like wearing something even though it might not look as good as something else then I'll still wear it Smile

Drywhitethanks · 21/01/2016 13:35

If anything made me feel meh, I justwoukdnt wear it.....clothes need to make me feel good.
Like Lou, if I totally love something fushia pink sweater and it's not really my colour, I'll wear it anyway.

How does the top feel? If you like it wear it.

Stokey · 21/01/2016 14:15

I have this with my brown boots - I really like them, they're really comfy but post colours they just don't go with much else in my wardrobe - I've worn them a couple of times anyway with denim which I think works but I do wear them a lot less now.

My Finery order came - lovely packaging, good quality materials but the fit just didn't work, far too big on the shoulders, and the straight one was tight on the hips. This is not uncommon for me. Still the clutch is a keeper and they do free courier returns which makes me want to order from there again.

Hope you're feeling better Dry.

Minor annoyance of the day - easy peeler tangerines that just aren't so your hands get covered in juice.

KittyHello · 21/01/2016 14:56

Busy few days of work, loving the phoar chat, Gael Garcia Bernal circa Motorcycle Diaries, yum and Gregory Fitoussi in series 1 of Spiral - double yum.

Contemplated the 10 item a year thing but bought 2 Tippis in the sale, so think that's gone by the wayside.

Queen I'm a bit like that with my merino jumpers, I wear my grey JCrew one more than my Grey Gap ones because I prefer it and do have to make myself wear it otherwise. It's no big deal for as they are quite similar. I have black and grey Pettys and I much prefer the grey ones but again I make myself wear the black ones for a change. Can't remember who said it on this thread that you should never buy the same thing in more than one colour way as you will always have a favourite, that's quite true for me.

Dry hope you're feeling a bit better this afternoon Flowers

Blingy good to hear you're better.

I saw the NTA outfits last night, hmm, from memory Rochelle Humes and her husband looked good, Emma Willis too I didn't like her dress I do like her style generally though. The rest, ahem say no more, there were some shockers and some very bad plastic surgery Shock
